I was pleased to see we are keeping Alan he does seem to be alright.

I wounder what happens to others and if they are keepin the best. What about Azid Hussain is he staying or going?

What redundancies are there in the managment section.this is where the company can save some money as the managers get teh best pay and bonuses?.

In the old region that I used to work in, the managers actually increased at least threefold in one department when they had the redundancies after the first planning for growth fiasco.

They will always find/create jobs for certain managers even if they dont have the skills needed.

Like the 2 women from the callcentre who were given field operation manager roles, I understand they have since been relieved of those positions and are now only looking after installers! We all knew it wouldn't work.

As usual though, ntl have now changed their minds and appear, from the information we have, to be going for a hybrid of the central-regional model.
Um-hum.....a little more comprehensive review needed.

All this new, more regions, movement and changes.

I get the feeling that ntl are just shuffling the cards.........we will still end up with having the same deck....but with the cards in different places..... the crappy service, as they spread the fertiliser around.

Azaid stays from what I have heard, intrestingly though Peter Savage now does a similar job for TELEWEST and has been doing so since the new year  me thinks merger is even closer to going ahead now

Speaking personally and selfishly, my department now has the same manager but different managers above that level.

The new 'big boss' has hit the ground running, and has made clear what his priorities are...and they are spot on.

If the entire business is working along similar lines, things look good.

Is there any relation in the split to what platform you are on ?

It would appear so, pem - from our area, 1 quick e.g. -

Derby (ex cwc - Bromley) is now North (was NW)
Nottingham (ex Diamond - Langley) is now Midlands (was NE)

Lol - Norfolk is 'south' of Suffolk!

Re: ntl:home restructure (again)

Seems like a good plan to me, especially if they're splitting it with platform in consideration then.

Although I'm not sure they are as London and Surrey comes under South, yeh? Surrey is langley and London is Bromley.

I don't know what to make of that apart form my area ie, south wales seems to have evolved into part of Northern Ireland and um the North. Very strange. I jsut hope that their customer relations improve (wishful thinking) that we get a good increase in services available for the consumer and our money goes to pay for something useful instead of a comapny reshuffle every few years.

It doesn't really matter who is in what region, and I'm sure ntl have their reasons for doing it like they have. What really matters is whether customers see any advantages of this new structure, and what exactly this means for ntl's abysmal customer service record.

Exactly! It would be interesting to see what the cost implications are! I for one would rather money be spent on bringing BB etc. to all of London, especially Lambeth!
I do wonder if it will speed up or slow down any progress in London. I suppose we will just have to wait and see if any improvements are "coming soon" !

I think it looks like these are not realated to the platform at all. The region map is the same graphic as was posted here some time ago with the same numbers for the regions. I as am led to belive it, those beginning with 1, 2 or 6 are Langley (davic) areas and the others are Bromley (docsis)

I reckon this 'restructure' must be an administrative thing and not related to the platforms.

Re: ntl:home restructure (again)

aren't ntl meant to be creating a new "super" digital head-head - for all digital customers, instead of the two seperate ones. because they would have to, with this new ntl:home region restructuring, langley areas are being grouped with bromley area. so all areas will have to have the same service?? same digital tv service, channel no. and software type? surely?

BBKing 27-02-2004 15:05

Re: ntl:home restructure (again)

News to me. Having two seems vaguley sensible, given that then only half your customer base vanishes if a plane hits the head end (no laughing matter given where Langley is).

bigitup_j - this restructure is an organisational one, not a technical one and thus doesn't directly affect the infrastructure on the ground. DAVIC areas continue to get served out of Langley, DOCSIS out of Bromley.

You mean so they can then have a "super" old-ntl head-end and an ex-Telewest head-end?

Re: ntl:home restructure (again)

First they buy up all these small companies and make one big company, putting all their eggs in one basket. That wasn't a tremendous success, so they are now spreading their 'eggs' about like headless chickens, to see if that works. Think we need a new rooster, myself.

ex-Telewest head-end?
Yer Wot?

If/when the merger comes there'll be an ex-ntl, ex-CWC and ex-Telewest headend, Bromley was built by CWC. Three heads? I suggest 'Cerberus' as a new name for the company, but I could be barking up the wrong tree.

But they were talking about both systems being rebuilt to use the same standard over 3 years ago

The position of Langley Headend is a very big mistake, lets hope anything terrible never happens. I guess if the unthinkable happens it could just about finish off the company!

That seems apt seeing as this is ntHELLworld. :D

Aha - boom *tching*

Escapee - there are lots of tech companies who are risking it for a position in the Thames Valley or West London, as indeed are the Royal Family at Windsor. Besides, I myself live smack under the path of Australia and Middle East bound Jumbos who tend to circle my chimney at antisocial hours. The last crash in the area was in 1972 at Staines, which is about the same distance from Heathrow as Langley is, so there's always that risk, although most planes actually take a route a good way south of the headend (see a map).

If it is why do they keep those around that are milking NTL dry with high wagesd for sitting on their butts. BK comes to mind here as top contender for the boot size 12s.

It's not only the ones at the very top milking it dry

There are so many little empires built up in departments within ntl it's almost impossible to get rid of many of the hangers on that have taken up residence. You are possibly aware of the situation yourself Kitty, you have probably seen useless employees very often managers who seem to be constantly moving sideways when the **** hits the fan and their job is redundant.

Unfortunately the guys and gals often good ones at the bottom go out the door when their position is no longer needed, it constantly amazes me that some employees who were viewed as not much better than useless by the majority are still hanging on in there probably because they know they have little chance of surviving in other companies.
On the other hand there are some who are going through the motions with no commitment because they think redundancy is just around the corner, I feel sorry for the people who are worried about it but on the other hand I also feel sorry for the ones that have asked for redundancy but cant get it!

I personally think it's silly to turn people down for redundancy because there heart will never be in it again if they want the cash to go.
(I am thinking here about some of the older employees that have put their names forward in the past and been turned down)

Do you expect me to stand up for my wages?

Escapee - do we really deny our money problems? Going into Chapter 11 in a fairly public way of saying 'we're broke'. Possibly you mean before that.

Yes I meant a very long time before that, cash dried up, budgets were cut and corners started to be cut long before ntl would admit to the big wide world that cash was a problem.

But I'm just cynical when it comes to the way that ntl or should I say CableTel has operate from day one.

I'm in an extremely whimsical mood today, just misread BK for BBK at first, probably due to baby drool on my glasses (don't ask). Never took you seriously as meaning me, as you know I earn every penny of my vast salary [puts last night's gruel on to boil]
