Re: my aunties slow pc!
I have to go with Smicer on this one, it'd probably be more economic than trying to source PC66/100/133 SDRAM :)

Re: my aunties slow pc!
I can get branded pc100 anytime I want pretty much.
Cheapest pc I sell is £250(To wer only) and I make fair profit on that ;) |

I personally wouldn't touch anything with less than 1 GB now and am considering upping the desktop to 2. Nick - no offence but with that information i wouldn't be confident in finding you any compatible RAM to the extent I'd be equally confident in saying putting the Derby Ram in there would make a difference :D |
Re: my aunties slow pc!
allright anyway i found the source of the slowness. she has just gone from talk talk with a usb modem to bt with a usb router. thats what was making it very slow so we got a £8 LAN card from PCWORLD and since i didnt have to install any drivers it has stopped freezing and going slow. Bloody BT! GRRR!

Re: my aunties slow pc!
beacuse i had to spend 6 hours restoring xp and putting all the software back on. it says on the router pack 200mhz +
|
Re: my aunties slow pc!
But it's not BTs fault you didn't check out the hardware for bottle-necking ;)
|
Re: my aunties slow pc!
To be honest you could replace that pc for her with something twice as fast for the cost and trouble it would take to find some RAM for it, even a 750mhz old p3 would seem like a Ferrari compared to what she has, and you could even move the HD over with her stuff on as a slave and install xp onto the primary HD of the new system.

Re: my aunties slow pc!
I've a old p3 with 547mhz 20gig HD and 8mb gfx I was stripping for bits, in two minds wether to rob its HD and leads and psu or refit it all and sell it on with the crt.

Re: my aunties slow pc!
The Crucial site could well recommend what memory is needed. Also, why not test it with PC Pitstop - it will inform you of the weakest parts of the system.
