[Merged]NTL price increase

I just received a letter from NTL prices are going up for TV packages from 1.9.2006. Am considering reducing to basic pack, may be I'll do it after Christmas.:td:

ive had the same letter, it really does make sky's tv package that bit more desireable now espescially with the 6 months skysports free which means it will be 31quid a month cheaper than i am paying now!!!!!!!

ntl's tv packages aren't any more expensive than skys... :erm:

Re: NTL price increase

I beg to differ there, im currently paying 46 quid going up to 48 on 1st september  for family and all skysports. i can get the same package on sky for 35 quid and thats 17.50 for the first 6 months!!!! how does that work out to ntl being the same price as sky?

Because ntls 48 a month includes a phone line which sky's doesn't? or maybe because it's a special offer, not the regular tarriff? You cannot compare apples with oranges.

Edit - I've just looked at the Sky website. It's 36 a month with the sports package free for 6 months.

Have you looked at any of ntls deals? Until you do, you can't compare.

Re: NTL price increase

Am I correct in thinking that NTL's family pack will be increasing to £20.50 all in?

Anyone got any links to the price increase info?

Plus, once your 6 months free is over, it'll cost you £43.50 per month if you want to keep the full package...

patinstoke 31-07-2006 15:37

Re: NTL price increase

Yeas i know but that 43.50 is still cheaper than ntl (48 pounds without the movies!!!) and i get sky sports extra and its functionality all of which i dont get with ntl. i dont really use the house phone but i do like my ntl internet its v stable and iv e never had problems.

Well, don't forget that, if you did get Sky, you'd need a BT line for the first 12 months as part of the T&Cs :)

It doesn't need to be a BT line.

It doesn't need a phone line at all, you'll just have to pay installation fees etc.

Just phone NTL's retentions line
0800 052 9403

Tell them you'll be off to Sky, because of etc etc
And i can almost guarantee that they'll reduce your bills for 3 months, and the NTL CS will probably tell you to call after the 3 months to get it again.

Thats why they are probably upping their prices, because their giving half price deals to every tom, d1ck and harry that phones retentions.

They up their TV prices every time sky do.

For example [in Ntl's News of the World advert yesterday they were], comparing Sky's standard every day rates with NTL's limited time only special offer rates.. For example, including all the "optional" charges in the Sky comparison but not in the NTL one... For example, leaving the phone line cost out of the NTL comparison... For example, trying to represent that the Digital TV "Starter" pack [six pay channels] is the same as even the cheapest Sky pack [at least 40 pay channels]...

A fairer comparison would be:

Sky 2 Mix + Free Broadband + BT Line = £26/month
NTL 'Leisure Combo' + Phone Line = £40.49/month

UncleBooBoo 31-07-2006 16:30

Re: NTL price increase

Actually you do not need any phone line if your with sky and if your a new customer everything is free, even installation!

You just pay a £25 charge for not having your digi box connected to a phone line!
(This is a one off fee!)

The day's of having to have a phone line in order to get sky are long gone!
(Unless you want multiroom at a discounted price)

Ah sorry you're right they should have quoted the up to 16Mb with no cap or activation fee instead, costing a tenner but still with the bundles being cheaper than ntl with 2Mb uncapped internet.

Another anti-Sky person who thinks it's cool to type $ instead of an S *sigh* you should thank Sky they're the main motivation behind the upcoming pricing and package changes for ntl's internet services.

I'm against the programme supplier and carrier being one and the same ... and many, many people will use $ as I have for many other reasons too.

btw the majority will never get anywhere near 16 mb (unless they live in the exchange!)

*Yawn* you believe that as well obviously. I could go through giving out the facts again regarding ADSL range, etc, etc, but they're wasted on the people with tongues in ntl's backside.

Presumably you won't be watching any UKTV channels if you don't like supplier being carrier seeing as ntl own Flextech.

Actually I'll amend my signature... Done.

I only used the quote to show that Ntl do compare apples and oranges just like lots of other companys. The examples weren't mine ;)

2km from an exchange is only just over a mile, I live in a medium sized town and am aprox 3 miles from exchange as the crow flies, no idea what line length that equates to, but expect that it is over 4500metres, ADSL less than 4MB. Using same cable, was lucky to get 33K on dial up with BT.

Many, many people live too far from BT exchanges to get decent ADSL, 2km is only just down the road from exchange,

Yes I got these figures from the link which you gave, so I have "checked the facts".............

I don't claim that cable is the BEST, but it is better for a lot where ADSL is a joke.

UncleBooBoo 31-07-2006 20:41

Re: NTL price increase

I live not that far away from my local exchange about 1.5miles max and was only able to get 1MB but now I can get 4MB max!

That is kinda crap when you think about it!

I can wave to my bt exchange by looking out my bedroom window yet I have only ever been able to get half the speeds.

Can't beleive how much tv packages cost these days. Just get a Freeview box instead and/or a free satellite set up.

Alternatively why not ask for NTL's free basic tv offer? - suprised there hasn't been any discussion of it here.

In my opinion, Mr Henry challenges & contradicts, but never 'abuses', should you have a problem with a post, please use the report feature, rather than accusing the poster of an anatomical impossibility ;)

Tricky thinking what to say to that really....

Perhaps you should go tell mommy about what the nasty man said on an internet forum?

Failing that as per homealone's suggestion use the report post feature, it's clearly marked.

/looks at my letter

My family pack + 'Sky movies collection' package, across two stb's is going up by £2, per month.

It seems it is only the 'premium' pricing being changed, which is passed on from Sky, anyway - if it was a problem I would ditch the movies collection package, which would, arguably hit sky as much as NTL??

Added with the fact that the cables don't come out from the exchange to your house in a perfect straight line. Then there still is the issue of ****ty noisy lines.

Shaun, in the latest press propaganda by NTL they were not comparing like for like, this was not only spotted by me.
I do feel that there is some jangling of nerves in the upper echelons of NTL, looking at their advertisements in the press they seem rattled by something.
Customers are now able to name their own price that they want to pay for services which is ok by me ;)

See above regarding tongues and ntl's backside. Kissing up on here will get no-one anywhere, ntl don't do engineering careers anymore :)

While we're at it let's discuss 'excrementy' noisy lines for a moment shall we?

Some of that mess is actually wanted signals!

The above probably doesn't mean that much to you but it's the return path of a node on the ntl cable network, look at the difference between the noise floor and the spikes above it, that gives you an idea of the CNR, so enough of the crap about BT's noisy lines, cable has them too, and their noise tends to affect hundreds of customers, not just one.

Anyway this is going off topic so I'll leave it be. Again the cable fanboys come out of the woodwork to bash the competition and ignore the proof put in front of them. Evidently we all live several KM from our exchanges at the end of horribly noisy telephone lines and that's that because jtwn the comms God says so ;)

Guys, I've said this before. Please do NOT discuss the pros/cons of ADSL vs Cable in this thread. The thread is about NTL price increases.

Re: price rise

Sky up their prices once a year!

Always have, they started off at £32 a year for their full package. but they realised by adding mainly +1 channels and a few more shopping channels that they could up their subs.

Yet people moan about it but they continue to pay for it, so I guess it's a case of put up and shut up unless your going to do something about it that is. Same as every company I guess unless you cancel then the price rises will continue!
