Vacum

Whats a good model of vacum cleaner these days?

Chimaera 26-07-2006 20:44

Re: Vacum

Well I like my little Dyson DC05 with a turbo brush head we bought seperately from Tesco - excellent for dealing with dog hair. But then I only have a small 2 bedroom house and not much storage room, so a small cylinder cleaner like that is ok for us.
Depends on the size of your house, what type of flooring you have, and any pets etc.

We also have a Bissell carpet washer, now that is good for picking up absolutely everything!

maybe it is the turbo brush head that makes a difference, but when we 'upgraded' our DC02 to a DC05 I found the standard head was really hard to push along, because the suction was so fierce, but I didn't try it with the turbo brush head - too late now, my son has the DC05, we've got the old DC02, we gave him, back, complete with turbo brush :D

You need one that you can turn the beater bar off for when you do your wood flooring, I swear by my Dyson

I hate bagless cleaners. One gust of wind as you're emptying the thing in the bin and that's it. I'm allergic to dust - would be a nightmare.

Yet they collect so much more than a bagged one. :erm:

Not much comfort when it's all in your face/mouth/hair/eyes and you're sneezing violently :(

Re: Vacum

Use the HEPA filters and you'll be living in a cleaner, healthier environment.

Clearing out the cartridge isn't difficult... especially on our one where they've improved the design. It was a bit clunky on our DC01, but this new one has a nice compact design which is such a doddle to empty. You'd have to try hard to get the dust everywhere with our one, GC.

Re: Vacum

Dyson for me as well 'DC07 all floors' can't see the point of going over the same bit of carpet / floor twice so I got a gud un, although I never used to look at it that way when I wasn't single :D

As far as emptying it goes, too easy really, just put the removable cylinder in a carrier bag and pull the little lever, no dust, job done. :tu:

I personally think that Dysons are severly overpriced crap, that break all too often. For pets, the Miele Cat and Dog hoover is great. For all other purposes, the VAX Luna is brilliant, and half the price. I've had the 1300 for 6 years now, and it's still as good as new, which is great considering I hoover at least once a day (in a 3 storey house!)

Morphy Richards Power Champ 2400W, the bag even has a cover to prevent dust getting out when you need to change it. Deals with hard floors and carpets nicely.

Trouble is unless your filters are spotless they are worse than a £40 Hoover turbo 2 with a bag.

Dysons = Nice Idea but in practice they are actually poor vacuum cleaners.

My basis for this argument, I have fixed and tested 1000's of vaccum cleaners.

Dysons are over priced and are not easy to take apart (or at least not straightforward enough for the lay person). I'm surprised Mr Dyson keeps being able to pull the wool over everyones eyes. I hate having to use Claires folks one to clean up as it does'nt suck worth a dam, the turbo head keeps burning out with waomens hair trapped in it and they cannot be serviced, The perma filter if you clean it needs several hours to dry.

Look out for a local vac repair shop and see if they do a hoover turbo 1 or 2 reconditioned. Will cost £40 ish. You'll go through 1 bag a month at a cost of £2 for 5 and if you get a turbo 2, it has 2 filters which are cheap to change and because the bag is the main filter they maintain suction longer.

Vax hoovers are also good too, we had the one before the luna as well as a turbo2, covered all bases and still going long after the dyson dc01 I was given gave up after the 2nd motor.
