The only comments I would say are, watch yourself, using copyright materials might land you in trouble, i.e. Star Wars theme, Eric Cartmen ;)
And the animated glitter menu

No one really cares about that unless the site is big and has a easy to track down owner with a lot of cash.

My recommendation if you're starting out with websites:

Tools: Notepad, Filezilla

Resources:
http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp
http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp

Get some webspace or use your free space if you have it.

Learn HTML and CSS in that order, then use Notepad to build a basic page.
Once you have something to test, upload it to some webspace using Filezilla.

Making websites using templates or pre-packaged garbage like piczo will never help you learn how to build your own.

I dont think php-fusion is quite "like" piczo and anyway even with php-fusion or anything else similar even vbulletin are you going to be able to make it individual with no html knowledge and that comes from making pages in notepad not some other junk program like front page or dreamweaver.

I use dreamweaver... it does the job I want it to do in record time, no way I want to be sat coding in notepad.

A table of images to look like a single image on a page, the image portraying one to be an expert in several IT and other applications @ aged 13, yet the one page fails to validate to regaulr w3c standards, 4 warnings out of the 6 are in the body tag alone. Just goes to show how dangerous the net is if you dont know how to do it yourself in the first place. ;)

Note I wouldnt have mentiond the validation failure if it had not been for the subject of the page itself.

That's about as valid a comparison as comparing Einstein with David Beckham though. (Too obvious to say which way round, and in what).

Nice looking, but here is my advice:

dump the images and recreate the exact same look using HTML and CSS, this gives you the ability to:

*Get your site listed in search engines
*Allow you to concerntrate on Accessability

Also then I would also add a contact form, you need to add a blank HTML page to each sub directory to stop people getting at the directory tree.

You have a good base but just need to re-work it a little.

I'm not sure It even qualifies as a webpage.

It has no hyperlinks and is basically a static non interactive , mis-leading picture.

Re: my website

You know your site is essentially useless for search engine optimisation? Which is great if you don't expect any business from it, also, why use tables? Tables are for tabular data, not layouts, you should be using CSS and it should be XHTML strict compliant. Give us the link for "Eric G"'s web site.

Different people share a different school of thought but that doesn't matter, I agree with most of what has been said. It looks more like a holding page than a web "site"

Simple is a nice plain ccs based box.

Very basic is what your 'site' is.

I might be a web design Nazi but I don't think there's ever any excuse for a non-CSS, non-validating business web site/page. CSS layouts are far easier to build and maintain, they're normally a lot smaller in file size and the lack of extra tables/tr/td tags on the page helps a lot with SEO.

On this page http://www.do39.com/vc/webdesign.htm you're going on about the importance of validation, but the page itself doesn't validate ;)

He came on inferring that he, as a 13 year old could create a good site, he was wrong and has had it pointed out to him. (If he didn't want criticism he should have posted a link to his site).

I suspect that you don't really have anything to add in respect of the actual theme of this thread so why don't you go berate people in a different one?

Wow. How fast you are to jump on my errors, instead of checking your own.

How many errors did dmay.info have on the validation test on w3? 6.. wasn't it ?

http://www.purplegriffon.com/ - 10 errors
http://www.nthwclan.co.uk/ - A whopping 36!

Hmm... Didn't you design both of those ? Oh, and purplegriffon has the validity image, when it isn't .. actually valid.

See how easy it is to be critical and not offer any constructive criticism?

I'm also guessing, from your egotistical attitude, that all of the websites you own are completely and utterly flawless and have been validated by w3?

The problem is the more content and pages you have the harder it is to validate. BBC is one of the best sites on the web and not all of its pages vailidate. I never put the seal on my sites anymore because as you saw before its very hard to ensure 100% validation all the time.

Re: my website

In defence of Handyman, he's actually had very little to do with the NTHWclan site to date. Indeed that site is very much being changed and added to as it is built. The content bears no resemblance to the stuff that was there last month. Not throwing stones at people in glasshouses but I wonder how well the other clan site does?

I think all this thread is showing is the difficulty people face in achieving good web design. It's not just having interesting content, it's also having interesting layout with reasonable code behind it. What should be done is encouragement for those prepared to have a go, whether by use of raw code, or integrated tools, and constructive help, if something isn't right to help improve it.

Every single one of them, it's not difficult to achieve, it's not as if the validator doesn't tell you where you've messed up.

The problem to me was what the page was putting across to a visitor, yet was very apparently either not so or the site was coded in such a way it did not fit in with the info on the page and what it was potentially appearing to try to sell. Beleive it or not but many people have been taken for 1000's from similar claims by people of all ages who end up not delivering.

Now if the page is to be believed that this 13 year old is an expert in all that software the page portraying such statements needs to support them, wether they be true or not.

If you classify that as "throwing stones at people in glasshouses" then by all means, please do so - Ours has been in development for a month or so now and is very very near to being completed.

A mere 7 errors on the w3 validation - which will be fixed.

There is of course those who put criticism and being downright insulting together and think nothing of it.

Lets just say for a minute LemonyBrainAid does have something like ADHD, ritilin is not a nice drug to be on mate, unless of course you dont need it and just take it for a playground drug.
