kazaa lite k++ 'eliminated'

sharman networks the owner of the original kazza client has forced kazza lite to end its offering of the modified client sharman went directly to the ISP of the hosts the mirrors that offer the download and ordered them to 'take them down' or face court action with the DMCA coming in to force

A representative of Sharman Networks spoke to us on the condition of anonymity regarding their current campaign to vanquish Kazaa Lite K++.

Not only has Sharman Networks succeeded in eliminating nearly every major resource of Kazaa Lite K++, they are systematically forcing it off the network.

How you ask?

Recent upgrades to Kazaa clients (2.5 and higher) make them less tolerant with outdated or non official clients such as Kazaa Lite K++. Kazaa Lite is based on a version prior to 2.5, therefore a current supernode will not accept its shares. Although this will cause network headaches in terms of traffic, the client will not be able to participate or download off the main FastTrack network. This will effectively cluster and isolate all modified Kazaa clients from FastTrack.

I must be slow today, but it took me a while to realise that you were quoting an Interview, hadn't actually talked to anyone at Sharman Networks, and weren't referring to yourself as "us"..

The people who make Kazaa get paid to add loads of spy ware and ads etc.
Kazaa lite is a ripoff of Kazaa 2.5 and doesn't have the spyware etc, hence why people like using it.
Kazaa aren't too happy about this and so are preventing access to their main node for any Kazaa's that don't have the spyware/ads

I use Kazaa lite and fear the writings on the wall for it. As with all these P2P progs, it`s wise to keep one step ahead all the time and prepare another for when they go down. I`ve started using Ares, its got a similar interface to kazaa and downloads are fast but not as many users on yet.

Doubtful. Depends on how quickly people upgrade to the new version of Kazaa.

Hang on, let me explain that. The Kazaa network is made up of SuperNodes and clients. When you download the Kazaa software, it defaults to be being a client, but can be set up to be either. A supernode indexes all the files being shared by all the clients attached to it.

When you log in with a Kazaa Client, it goes off, finds it's nearest SuperNode and when you download something, it will search the local SuperNode.

The reason Kazaa Lite will eventually stop working is because it uses an old version of the Kazaa download protocol, which all SuperNodes running the new Kazaa software will refuse connections from.

So, the more SuperNodes running the new software, the harder it will be to run Kazaa Lite.

That, combined with Sharman ordering ISPs to remove Kazaa Lite, means it will be difficult to obtain Kazaa Lite, and slow using it.

Hey, I wasn't having a go... I have been known to use kazaa lite myself.. Was just explaining why it would be hard to predict how long Kazaa lite will last..

Who cares, kazaa is riddled with spyware. There is plenty of others..winMX, eMule, Shareaza and bittorrent to name but a few. All come with no spyware.

Kazaa Lite has no spyware. Kazaa itself won't be affected by this.

True, there are other P2P networks though.

I've noticed that lately the fastrack p2p network has been rather lacking in the content department.

WinMX seems consistent enough still, so I'll keep on using that.

(Fastrack is the network behind Kazaa)

I find IRC more reliable and much Quicker than Kazaa, overnet/emule, winmx etc, so i think i will stick with that. :)

I do, so I just leave WinMX running all day and usually it's done by th etime I'm back from work / woke up in the morning :)

I'd prefer to wait for higher quality MP3s, rather than the 128kbps that are available on Kazaa.
