Pirate movie releases

Ok this is not a discussion on piracy or how and where to get these releases its purely a discussion of why you watch them :)

With the US release of Superman Returns there are various releases that are camcorder recording of the movie. Now this is a massive film with brilliant sound effects and brilliant visuals so why would someone want to watch a poor quality rip off of this movie with bad sound?
Ive spent a lot of money on surround sound I have a full 7.1 set up and really enjoy watching movies at home.I personally do not watch these camcorder recordings and do not understand those that do.S
o to gain an understanding I ask the question.
Do you watch camcorder recordings or telesyne or telesinc recordings and why ? :)

Re: Pirate movie releases

No - I don't... Because they are genereally so bad I don't see the point.

Re: Pirate movie releases

wait 3 to 6 months and the film is out of dvd or in some cases wait less time and you can get a pirate of the dvd release months before it's in the shops.

Re: Pirate movie releases

I have watched pirate dvd's as I would rather not pay the £15 - £20 for a dvd from a film company that thinks it is ok to charge such prices. I cannot afford to buy dvd's at retail prices (unless I go to a supermarket and buy older titles) - I've been lucky in that the ones I have watched have been of v.good quality, I just wish retail dvd's were a bit cheaper.

Re: Pirate movie releases

the best option is to rent via lovefilm in my opinion rather than buy at those silly prices.

Re: Pirate movie releases

We had a chinese guy come round the pub all the time trying to sell £5 pirate DVD's.
AFAIK none were particularly good quality.
I have seen some excellent quality ones downloaded for free from the internet however, things like the fellowship of the ring.
I'd only have a look at a pirate copy as a try before I buy thing, like the few tracks I've ever downloaded from the net (like maroon5, liked the track I downloaded, bought the album), if I'm unsure about a film in the cinema, rather than risk wasting nearly £30 on seeing it and being dissapointed, if I have the chance to catch a copy for free and its good, then I'll go see it in the cinema.
Normally though, as free copies aren't that available, I'll just wait for it to come out in blockbusters and rent it (like with Aeon Flux)

Re: Pirate movie releases

On the odd occasion I do watch them its beuase I can't wait for the UK to get the films released.

I have to say I did get a copy of Superman however it was not a bad cam at all. I watched it through my cinema/surround sound setup that I have and it was very watchable. I do however already have tickets booked to go see it in the cinema on the 14th.

www.vcdquality.com
Now this site doesn't tell you were to get the films or anything but provides a list of the releases and usually a screenshot from them. Recently within a month of a movie getting released you will be able to find almost DVD quality copies, as a lot of them are probably inside jobs using Telecine equipment.

There is a group (I won't name them) that have recently released some TS(telesync) and they have been amazing quality. As tech gets more advanced the fuzzy pirate copies of days gone by are getting less common.

I did go to the Cinema last night and watched Pirates of the Carribbean 2 and it was fantastic.

Thats what my post was about.

There are more than one type of pirate movie.

There is the cam which is usually the first type released, it will probably be poor quality and sound from the screen so you end up with people clapping coughing and so on.

Then there is a Telesync, this is still a cam but the picture quality is almost perfect and the audio will be direct from the sound booth.

Lastly there is a Telecine this will usually look DVD quality as it is taken digitally from the film reels in the cinema.

Then of course there are DVD/VHS screeners that tend to come from within the Film studios or given to people for award purposes.

Re: Pirate movie releases

Never bother with 'em... cams, I mean. Quality is useless and there's nearly always a better version out at the same time anyway.

What does make me laugh is the anti-piracy advert you get at the cinema and on some DVDs nowadays... I'm not sure where they're getting them from but they have got to be the worst quality copies I've ever seen - and I've seen a fair amount of copied stuff :D

etccarmageddon 08-07-2006 13:59

Re: Pirate movie releases

the dvd advert is rubbish anyway - it shows a girl downloading a movie 'illegally' - and I think compares it to stealing and breaking into a car.

someone please tell me how many people in the UK have ever been charged with the a criminal offence (which is what breaking into a car is) in relation to downloading copyrighted movies? or how many have been charged as part of a civil case for downloading copyrighted movies?

it's people who upload the movies who they go after in courts.

Yes I do, I'll give them a chance for the sake of an hour or so's d/l time, if they appear to be no good then i wont watch any more and wait for the next copy, and so on, and so forth, untill I get what i want :D such was the Superman film, first early copy was about a week and a half / two weeks ago IIRC, the quality was crap to say the least, the next version is very very good, for a cam ;)
I suppose, in answer to your question, why ????? It all depends how desperate you are to see it

Stephen 08-07-2006 15:30

Re: Pirate movie releases

I never ever d/l the first release as it is always a cam however when the telesyncs appear I have seen some by Maven that are amazing and look ore like telecines.

I know a telesync is still a cam with better audio and video but I wish people would stop calling a telesync a cam. It will confuse people that aren't to clear on the differences.

I think people should just wait until you get the proper thing because, You get more enjoyment out of the movie. And, If you want a DVD that's out in the cinema at the moment, Just go to the cinema and watch it. :tu:

I stopped going to the flicks - too many people talking on their mobiles, talking to each other etc

We watched a movie a few months back at the cinema and some couple brought in a baby that never shut up crying. After about 10 minutes into the film, a girl got up - one can only assume she had gone to complain, when she came back, the duty manager or such, came in and stayed for five minutes. By this time the baby had stopped crying, he was just about to leave when, the baby yelped a massive cry, he had no choice but to ask the couple to leave.

But on the whole - I'd rather watch a movie at the cinema than watch it on a dodgy pirate DVD. It's the cinema experience that counts for total enjoyment.

Oh I seeeeeeeee *smacks forehead*

Anyway going to the cinema now is a minimum 20 quid nite out for the 2 of us, plus with a 22 month old toddler we never get the chance nowadays, hence why I am ok buying of the chinese guy at our local retail park car park. Not only have i got him down to 4 for 15 quid, he's there every week and has even swapped films where Im not happy with the quality on more than one occasion.

Now theres customer service for you...

Seriously though, I do not download cam vids.. it just seems a waste of time, most of the films i download of the internet are forieng films that have the subs with them, that are difficult to get hold of over here.

I have to say what kind of ignorant cretin brings a baby to the flicks. no way should they have been sold tickets. I dont know which cinema you use but I very occasionally go to the AMC in manchester. Have given up on the filmworks though. The warner/myvue in bury is about the only one I know where you have a small hope of watching the film without some idiot ruining it. In my opinion DVD technology now makes home viewing superior plus the cost plus the risk of it being ruined at home is a lot less than flicks.

That's a great cinema complex, the best i've been to, and i've been there on a good number of occasions. free parking too.

Re: Pirate movie releases

only free parking in the evenings I think. otherwise it's £8 in the day of something stupid. there's a car park down the road near the atlas bar which is £5 for 12 hours.

it's a magnet for kids that complex - 10 pin bowling and all sorts there. I've never had problems at that flicks though and it has a bar.

LOL! It's ok here, anytime in the week the odeons dead! You can get upto anything you want ;) But sticking on topic I have about 6 genuine dvd's out of over 200 lol. I don't buy these crap camera recorded jobbies mind, i simply wait untill its rental in blockbuster, always get dvd quality as i would rather pay what works out for me about £4.75 in total per film than about £30 at the shops! My mate also gets dvd retail versions about a week before there in the cinema here, won't tell me where from though, but he makes ÃƒÆ’Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£ÃƒÆ ’‚£Ãà¢â‚¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£Ãƒâ₠¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£Ãƒâ€š £ÂÃ⠀šÃ‚£Ãƒâ€šÃ‚à ƒ‚£Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ £ÃƒÆ’‚£'s selling them. Me personally don't sell them anymore since i got done for fraud! :(
