MSN error code 80048820

I have been unable to log into MSN messenger for a couple of weeks, every time getting the error code 80048820 saying "we are unable to sign you into MSN Messenger at this time."

I did a bit of research and the common reason was due to the time and date not being synchronised. This I have now done and still am unable to log in.

Anyone have any suggestions as to how I can log into MSN please?

Same erorr about 2 weeks ago, drove me insane on my sisters PC. Formatted, started over. Works.

I found it happened on my sister laptop when we installed version 7 - ran an old version and it connected fine.

have done all of those things in that link and it still doens't work apart from trying to reinstall IE becuase my computer won't allow me to for some reason as when I type the run command my computer tells me to find "IEXPLORE.EXE in Windows XP" and says it can't find the file. Therefore I am unable to correct/update/reinstall IE.

I have just downloaded Windows Live Messenger and we shall see if that makes a difference. All my contacts seem to be there and I hope they can see me.

I was having this issue, I tried registering the DLL files, checking security setting even formatting the slave pc of which was having troubles.

I solved it today I shutdown all the computers and disabled power to everything, I then enabled power only to the SACM, once it has set up, I booted both systems up.

No problem since in regard to WLM.

I found with mine it was ZoneAlarm that had gone a bit crackers and was blocking it

Funny that as I am using Zonealarm Marge, I checked it though with it turned off and all processes related killed too, but had no effect.

I also seem to have sorted the problem. I did this by downloading Windows Live Messenger which installed itself on top of MSN Messenger. It ahs worked fine ever since.

Indeed.

I have always wondered why this problem existed in the first place and exactly what this error code actually is.

I had this problem when i switched my router to a belkin but i gather it works for other routers as well. The fix for me was to change the MTU from 1400 to 1432. I believe some have changed to 1400 or 1492 and it has worked for them.

Like I said changing to 1432 worked for me

Lyra

ps notre your orginal MTU setting just in case u have a problem

The linksys default is 1500, and have had no problems, thus I'm leaving it at that :).
