Laptop / PC IE not getting onto Internet
Hi,
Have a scenario for you all... Customer network, nothing special - usual equipment - network switch, ADSL, router, server. Everything is working ok - server can access the internet etc. However - two PC's - one a laptop can't access the internet. They are getting IP address etc, correct DNS, can ping the server but can't ping www.google.com although the server can... Any ideas? ---------- Post added at 11:04 ---------- Previous post was at 11:02 ---------- Edit - Firewalls - disabled on Win XP (Both Win Xp) PC's |

Re: Laptop / PC IE not getting onto Internet
power cycled everything? gone into router and made sure its acting as a dhcp?
|
Re: Laptop / PC IE not getting onto Internet
Yep - router has been bounced...other PC's are ok and getting on the net with no issues. Server doing DHCP - can see said PC and laptop in issued IP address lists...they can browse local domain / access fileserver / printer etc but no internet! A bit of a head scratcher!!

Re: Laptop / PC IE not getting onto Internet
Clutching at straws here -
try a tracert to www.bbc.co.uk and see if it is going to the router as its first hop. Might indicate a barfed routing table somehow. |

Re: Laptop / PC IE not getting onto Internet
Has the router firewall got a blacklist with these IP's on it? Try assigning a fixed IP to one of the clients and see if that gets through.

Re: Laptop / PC IE not getting onto Internet
Do they have the Windows firewall enabled on the machines that cannot access the internet?

Re: Laptop / PC IE not getting onto Internet
Well there's our stumbling block...we don't know the admin id / password for the router so i think somebody is going to site on Monday to try and hack it or zap it!

Re: Laptop / PC IE not getting onto Internet
While you wait for the password, can you 'ipconfig /release' one of the 'working' PC's, then release & renew on one of the blocked PC's so they get a 'working' IP.
That should identify in there is an IP blocking issue or something else (MAC filtering?). |

Re: Laptop / PC IE not getting onto Internet
Yes - but the point was the router firewall 'might' be blocking the IP's currently assigned to those PC's. Getting a new IP that you know is working would confirm or deny!

Hi - yep - I see your point...I'll let you know the outcome on Monday / Tuesday....another engineer is going to check it out...cheers for the advice.

What about Default Gateway, is that set correctly?

If the router is dropping the tracert at the internal side of things then if def looks like this is the case. it could also be mac filtering (So if you give the client the server IP and it still doesnt work, looks like MAC filtering) |
