I am getting worried. I appear to have no human characteristics at all. Yesterday I went to Epsom, where I started drinking at 11am. I drank beer and wine all day, then went out in Covent Garden...until 2am. I got home, and cracked open a can of beer. Hit the hay at 4am ish...feeling totally fine!!! Not ****ed at all. This morning...no hangover!

Nah, you're just like me, i can drink absolutely loads and be fine about it. Never had a hangover or anything.

Much prefer Carling, and later into the night its normally straight vodka. And no i'm not kidding. Last time it was about 8 cans of Calring, one Carlsberg (til i realised i hate the taste) a few Tequila shots, Gin and lemonade, and a bit of Vodka straight. Managed to keep it all down, no problems at all.

Of course, i only ever drink like that at my mates houses, usually at the parties that are held there.

I was like that till I got a wake up call from my liver enzyme test in Dec '05. I stopped drinking for Jan and have massivly cut down now and have turned into a lightweight in terms of how much alcohol I can tolerate now.......:(
Brother in law and I had a bottle of scotch between us in December and I was still sober after my half of it......

Someone was telling me (so not too sure of its genuineness) that during freshers week at uni, one of his mates exclaimed that his back hurt, and lifted his shirt to reveal two bright red patches in the same position as his kidneys :disturbd:

I think it gets worse the older you get, i never used to get hangovers until i turned 20, now i just feel crap, especially if i've been drinking Red Wine:sick:

Ahhhh, that would explain alot, when your body just gets sick of filtering it all out and decides to make you pay for it ! :D

Should have seen the mixes going round at one of the previous p[arties... Something out of every bottle i'm sure, that included Whiskey and Cherry as well... Oh dear!

Its a fact that hangover is directly related to the darkness of the drink.

Drinks can be rated as such starting with the worst hangover creators.

Brandy
Red Wine
Rum
Whisky
White Wine
Gin
Vodka
Pure Ethanol

Yeah we did something on that in biology, the thing causing the hangover began with a c.

Also there's something in red bull which counteracts the effects of alcohol concerning hangovers.

My doctor told me to stay away from alcohol after finding out my liver is damaged, even told me to change my mouthwash to a non alcohol brand.

Hmmm...I'd be a bit sceptical about that....unless you have been an alcoholic.....perhaps you should enquire further....

The truth is, I haven't touched alcohol since, and when I did before, it was in moderation... I did have some real binging sessions about 25 or so years ago. but not that regular. and I also noticed a hint of surprise on the docs face when I told him I only drank the odd glass of red wine a few times a week.

My liver enzymes were real high and I have to have tests every 6 month or so.

Maybe it was down to those mad times I had when I was younger? I have had to change my lifestyle a little, I'll try not to touch the dreaded drink again.

If that taurine stuff is meant to stop hangovers how come you can go out and drink vodka and red bull all night and wake up feeling rough?

As long as I drink the same type of drink and dont mix drinks, I think it works out better. Also taking water or a soft drink in between seems to help, and eating before going out.
Come the morning and you are fine.

Methanol actually causes blindness. (And it's acetaldehyde which actually causes lightheadedness - an intermediary in the oxidation path of alcohol to acetic acid... which happens in the liver.

(If you're revising A-level chemistry do not look at my lazy, degree level notation!)
this is in booze --> EtOH + [O] --> MeCOH <--this is the bad stuff
MeCOH + [O] --> AcOH <-- this is in vinegar

I find if I drink certain drinks I NEVER get a hangover, even if I mix them with whiskey etc, maybe this is a similar case?
