Quote:

Northampton Town have given Nottingham Forest permission to talk to their manager Colin Calderwood about the vacancy at the City Ground. Calderwood, who has just guided Town to promotion, has already been allowed to speak to Championship side Ipswich.
"Over the weekend we were approached by Forest, and Colin is flying back from holiday to see what they have to say," Cobblers chairman David Cardoza said.
"As we said to Ipswich, I expect the matter to be resolved very quickly."

Damn.

although Jordan won't be happy about Dowie going to Charlton i have to say that i and the other fans i know wish him all the luck.. he's a great manager and was never given full support by Jordan who thinks buying one player for £1 million will get you in the prem and then not buying anyone will keep you there

also looks like AJ is on his way too.. he's way better than the rest of the squad and he gave us a season we prob didn't deserve that could have harmed his world cup hopes so all the best

it's interesting how when some players go everyone wishes them luck and hopes they do well but when others leave we are glad to see the back of them

Re: The official close season non-World Cup football gossip/rumour thread

one of the reasons Dowie gacve for leaving was that his family live in Bolton and he wanted to be closer to them

as he has joined another London cluib a few miles down the road Jordan has issued him with a writ for it

can't see it coming to anything really and good luck to Dowie and AJ all the best with your new clubs.. would rather they stayed but can't blame them for moving on

might end up with ex player Peter Taylor in charge

Manchester United are lining up a sensational swoop for Juventus' former Arsenal hardman Patrick Vieira, according to reports.

Vieira is not comfortable with the current situation and has also recently been linked with a return to Arsenal but has refused to comment on his future.

I see that arch prankster Rio Ferdinand struck again, this time trying to kidnapp David Beckham considering what nearly happened to his family last year probably not in the best taste, then again is phoning up Wayne Rooney and telling him his dog is dead much better.

I hardly think that getting a fake chauffeur to drive him aimlessly around Manchester, to get the chauffeur's shopping and to take him to see his family, kidnapping ;)

Hardly sounds like a serious kidnapping attempt. It's just that I wouldn't drive him around in a limo, hoping that he wouldn't notice that he wasn't going where he should have been going. I mean, if I was kidnapping him, I would tie him up, so he couldn't escape ;)

Football management is a strange thing...your C.V. is public record, yet some people seem to always get re-employed...

I like the quote, it will give four more days for international fixture's, I think he is forgeting who pays the wages, not only will clubs lose players to injury they will also lose revenue from gate receipts and prize money, I hope that they tell them to get stuffed or that FIFA can foot the bill, they want the four extra days that much then let them pay for them.

yeah but i think fergie is trying to create that 4-3-3 formation have rooney and torres flanking a central striker. Torres is goalscorer but really shines in build up play.

with that 3 up top then ronaldo carrick and scholes/riquelme coming from midfield it would be superb XI

Apparently Damien Duff is about to sign for Spurs, if I were Fergie I would be hi- jacking that deal.

So O'Leary's left Villa - bumnuts :(

Hopefully, that old Bluenose Ellis will be gone soon, and we'll actually get a chairman with a bit of ambition

EDIT: yesman just beat me to it

To be honest, and purely in my opinion, Ellis is possibly the worst thing ever to happen to Villa - it's quite telling that, when Villa won the European Cup back in '82, he wasn't actually on the board. Since he came back the next season, we've finished 2nd in the league (in about '92), won the Coca Cola Cup ('94, I think), and got to the FA Cup final in 2000. Shoddy for a club of its size that we've only won one cup in 25 years

Also proves its own point that he's only actually sacked one manager since he came back, but all of the rest have left of their own accord...

I think Deadly Doug is careful with the clubs money, he reminds me of Alan Sugar when he was at Spurs, a middle table side who retain their premiership status season after season, and as you say, rarely win anything :(

At least the club won't do a Leeds and go bust, I know Leeds never went under, but they were trading while being insolvent.

I hope for your sake that the club can turn things around on the pitch this coming season.

Well, bearing in mind that the team were basically crap last season, and we've yet to buy anyone, it looks like we're going to be for another long slog :(

I dont think he is that careful, 6 million Balaban, 4 million Hadji over 10 million Angel who incidentally was a player they never even saw play in the flesh, he was signed on the evidence of a couple of videos :Yikes: and nobody told Villa he was playing with five of the best attacking footballers Argentina have produced in a generation and that was just in one season. I can see Villa going down unless swift wholesale changes are made.

Point of order, but Angel was 9.5 million ;), and he did manage to score 20-odd goals a couple of seasons ago.

Having said that, I do agree about Hadji and Balaban (and I'm not going to mention Kachloul ;) )

1981 Villa win league
1982 Villa win European cup
1982 Doug Ellis returns

See? Gazzae knows what I'm talking about (although I was convinced that it was Villa who won in '82 - not sure who Villi are :D )

I could not believe the paper today apparently we are selling Dean Ashton to Newcastle for 10,000,000 six months after signing him and buying Micah Richards for 9,000,000, now he may be a prospect but 9,000,000 I think they are making this one up ;)
