:Yikes: Hello all.

I'm currently on NTL 10meg, Or so I thought! Anyway since around saturday, I've been having very bad connection problems for example, Some sites wont load (this site takes 10 minutes!) & I cannot do anything, It's not my computer or router, cleared the cache.. refreshed etc...

Non of it makes any difference, I contacted by brother who is also on NTL (4meg though) & he is having the same issues (he lives 10 houses away)

Anyway, can anyone tell me if they are having any issues within the area!

Same here da1 area, lost the connection on saturday 13/05 and again on 20/05 both times at 16.10pm.
I am also on up to 10meg, rang ts both times, told first time that the problem was with the green street box and that my s/n was to high, second time told by a very nice indian gentleman that my modem had died and that he coudnt run any tests on it.
Arranged for an engineer to call between 12-6pm today(monday), connection returned at 5pm saturday, so much for a dead modem!!

I've been having problems on the 2Mb connection in the Cardiff area late at night... sites not found, very slow loading, etc.

As ntl in their infinite wisdom don't monitor packet loss, and as India tends not to have the skill / willingness to spot these issues or the contacts to report them it's a bit screwy and these things don't get noticed for ages.

Seems fine at the moment though, no packet loss to there at all so guess someone noticed. 24 - 48 hours to spot it is gack though :(

Just had the engineer come out, informed that there is a promblem with the ubr's in da1 area, work being done tonight to rectify the problem, we will wait and see!!!

Speed seems to have been restored. Just tried traceroute again, and no more lost packets.

I'm still having some issues, the browsing is picking up again, but I can't sign in on MSN...

It gets better then it gets worse!

is it me or has the DNS server been kicked a bit too hard again for a change??? had a hell of signing into msn and the beeb + ebay are both timing out....

have to say the dns servers have been steady for too long now so might be those;)

Here in SN5 same problem BBC down, hotmail down etc - nothing mentioned on the NTL status page. Great customer service yet again!:mad: :mad:

I am in Portsmouth area and just recently i have had to switch to LAN settings to read my Yahoo emails whereas about an hour ago my LAN were off and i could read emails perfectly

Here in Cambridge, no yahoo, microsoft etc. intermittant google. maybe the rain frazzled the dns server!

Yes, not as good as I thought earlier on. Some sites OK, then they fail??

BBC Traceroute pings packets still OK, but ping times are all over the place.

A few moments ago, BBC IP address not resolved. Hurry up NTL and get it sorted!! - Can't seem to make up it's mind. I'm in B78 area.

Problems in Stockport too.

No Google, Ebay or Amazon - email fine though. Would guess it's a DNS issue seeing as it's affecting such a wide range of people.

Is anyone else having problems? I tried connecting to MSN, had to run the troubleshooter and it says there is a DNS error. Should I change my proxies?

Yes- Having problems here in Horndean. Changing proxies appears to have helped a bit.

As usual, nothing is shown on the NTL service status page....

Yes i am starting to have problems

I have had to switch to LAN settings just so i can read my yahoo emails whereas an hour ago i was reading them fine without LAN settings on. If i take LAN settings off i cannot get any Yahoo pages up, dont knwo about ebay, google or bbc as i havent tried them yet

Sluggish on my main PC which has the ntl connection. Couldn't access google. Just swapped to laptop with the BT wireless connection, all fine and google is accessible, obviously now points to a ntl DNS issue this.

Bit of a sneaky workaround, but I'm using Freeserve's DNS servers and it's working for me now. The servers I'm using are

Thought that might help some people till NTL fix their problems. :)

Just another update following the engineer's visit this afternoon (monday).
Arrived home from work at 7pm, guess what!! no connection, again rang ts and informed once again that my modem was dead:angel: , engineer again arranged for wednesday this time, new modem so i am told!!.
Must be my lucky day, the modem is now working again, how long for he asks!!

This doesn't work for me, I think the poxy servers also do a look up.

I used to know pipex or demons DNS addresses but can't see them right now.

Internet access fine via work VPN though!

its ntl's dns I think or proxy servers but most likely dns.

specifying my squid server instantly fixed all http activity and the only problem I had other then that was msn disconnecting.

I specified my DNS settings to be 194.168.8.100 as my primary server (instead of automatically being set as the secondary) and google and yahoo worked. However, both MSN and Hotmail still don't work. Changed it back to automatically assign server info.
Also rebooted STB but to no avail.

Can't wait for it to get sorted though, I have email but cannot access it :(

Nearly everything down for me too. No google, no ebay, can't even get to my own website located on the server in the next room! Definately a DNS problem.

Changing proxies helped earlier on but nothing works on any proxy now.

Forgot to say im in the TS6 area of Middlesbrough.

Same here, i can't sign into MSN get a "DNS & Key ports" error from MSN troubleshooter.

Google doesn't work, other sites are very slow.

Not a happy bunny here in Bedfordshire. I was about to make a bid on an item on Ebay, but kept seeing Page Cannot Be Displayed and lost the auction. :mad:

Some sites load, but there are always boxes with crosses in them or messages dotted around saying Page Cannot Be Displayed.

I've just had a nightmare couple of weeks with not being able to access the Internet and a hopeless, patronising engineer. I'm not impressed with this latest problem.

Ok, on the MSN i clicking "Repair" and it signed into MSN striaght away, but google is still not working, neither are other sites such as Morpheus.com and eBay.

This site is also very slow for me.

People on Tesco internet are also having issues

I am in Coventry and experiencing DNS problems.
I cannot access BBC, ebay, gmail, and similar sites.
It appears to be intermittent, though it is frustrating as you cannot meaningfully conduct transactions on ebay.

NTL status page is unhelpful as it gives the impression that all is well.

At moment certain sites are working for me but thats only cos i have switched my LAN settings on for the time being otherwise i wouldnt be able to get onto Yahoo, Msn etc

Thought my net had been running along nicely for pass few weeks without any hickups - should of known it wouldnt last forever lol

I tried it, but I couldn't even load Cable Forum... swithced it back to using NTL's DNS Servers, and at least CF is back.

As for changing your DNS servers, you go to Control Panel -> Network Connections, then right-click on Local Area Connection, and select Properties, then highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and select the Properties button. In this new window, you'll see where you either select to have your DNS Servers found automatically, or there are 2 fields where you can specify your own Primary and Secondary DNS Server. Hope that helps :)

I work for a company which is across the road from the Manchester Internet Peering point. We have a 45Mbit and 100Mbit connections into the Internet. Today both our ISP's failed within minutes of each other. Since then we have seen parts of our international network going up and down all day. It has been stable for the last few hours and working fine, but apparently one of the major network centers lost UPS power earlier today and routing table loops have been occurring all across the UK as engineers try and work around these missing routes. I don't know if this is related to NTL's problems, but I know that NTL do peer in Manchester and a few other of the affected points on the UK Internet.

Had major problems getting to Google this evening. Switched to running my own DNS server and all is fine - faster responses than I've had using NTL's DNS for months!
