Friday Quiz - 19 May 2006

Welcome to the World Cup Fever Quiz!

Usual rules apply:
1) No Googling or use of any other internet resources before 1pm
2) No more than 3 answers per reply
and please, do not quote the questions, I just want the answers.

Some of these are very easy so I want acurate answers ;)

1) What was the original World Cup Trophy called?
2) Who found this trophy after it was stolen in 1966?
3) Which country kept original trophy after winning it for the third time in 1970?
4) What happened to it in 1983?
5) In 1966, the FA secretly made a replica. Where is it now?
6) Which player has appeared in the most matches?
7) Which country scored in 11 seconds, the fastest in world cup history?
8) Which player has scored the most goals in total?
9) Who are the current holders and where did they win it?
10) Who are these two characters?

Well, since there is no penalty shootout, I'll declare it officially a draw but we'll let homealone do the honours next week.

Landslide victory for the North-East though!!!

Sorry to all those who aren't football mad and were looking for more general knowledge questions. I just thought it was timely.

PS, Gaz:
Those pictures were hosted on my NTL webspace. Is this no good to you? How could I have done it better?

Well, I wouldn't call it a landslide - more a 'can't be bothered with real work today' :D

EDIT: Mind you, I'm quite impressed with the amount I know about '66, bearing in mind I wasn't born for another 9 years :disturbd:

ok, I'll accept my punishment - I may not be able to do it until Friday evening, though. I'll firm up a time during the week.

Thanks altis, the picture thing affects pretty much all embedded (linked)pictures, websense must look for the <img> tags, wheras attached pictures are ok - but that wouldn't have fitted for the quiz format, so I don't think there is much you could of done. Appreciate the concern, though :tu:

Well, the avatars and, for that matter, much of this website is made up of images. Perhaps it only blocks those that are hosted on a different site or maybe it's just stuff on homepage.ntlworld.com.

yes I can - you may be right about 'homepage' being filtered.

I count myself pretty lucky to have access from work, so a few restrictions are expected. It is sometimes quite funny with what it considers 'adult content', often there is no relevance at all :)

- thanks altis, appreciate it.

Right, I'm going to try to stick with this time, but there is a chance it may have to be delayed/postponed.

Sorry I can't be more informative, than that, at the moment, but it is depends on what someone else will be doing, and they haven't confirmed yet.

I'll post an update as soon as I know more... :)

It is that I have to meet up with a friend & I'm not sure on the timing. I've just spoken to him & he reckons he can make it between 5 & 7, in which case we are still good to go, for 7.

- I'll try for today, if I can, even if it is a little later than intended. The only other thing that can go wrong is that I've finished off the questions at work & emailed myself with them, at home. Sods law says that email will be down ;)
