New Mouse Advice

I have about £30 now for a new mouse, since my Logitech G5 right click died on me tonight, well last night.

So I fancy a laser or high resoultion mouse, which has a good branding name, comfortable, I am not bothered about cordless or not, either suits me.

But must be good in games, reliable, and not one of those which feels cheap.

Any good ones out there you could recommend as the cheap one I am using now is ruddy awful.

I'd stick to a USB cord mouse, I find Logitech to be the best for me... cordless has a very small lag when playing games, and even the smallest amount of lag can be irritating.

Thanks I loved my g5 Logitech but I've no reciept and it was only 10months old, :erm:

I'm using a Kensington laptop mouse right now and :disturbd: it working pretty darn good, but I miss the heavier mouse,

I have been checking out some cheap Microsoft mice which I thought would be more expensive than they are and a LX7 Logitech mouse, worth the money or not?

Have you tried Logitech, they might be able to help you even without proof of purchase?

Yes, it's always a good idea to contact the manufacturer, only takes a couple of minutes to send an email and it costs you nothing.

I had a rotary clothes airer which developed a problem some three or four years after purchase. This had a seven year warranty but who can find the receipt and details after all that time? The store where I bought it was no help at all but an email to the manufacturer resulted in them sending me a new replacement FOC and delivered by courier to the door.Excellent service!

Time to go hunting on Logitech's site for a email contact.

---------- Post added at 13:31 ---------- Previous post was at 13:27 ----------

Sent en E-commerce :/ to them now, just hoping for a positive outcome to this, in short I have had 10month gaming out of the mouse, and I would recommend one to anyone in a heartbeat.

Logitech G& is cordless laser with no lag in games but slightly out of your price range.....
KP and I both have one and are very happy with them.

Re: New Mouse Advice

What's wrong with the mouse? And I can second Logitech being good. The KB on the internet has helped resolve quite a few dodgy issues without needing to call - and my KB/Mouse which is totally 133t came with a 5 year warranty which i really needed, especially as I was sick of them going wrong after a year and also guzzling batteries and was an influencing factor in getting it! The set is almost a year old, I have to charge the mouse occasionally but the KB is perfect, responsive, plenty of hotkeys and hasn't needed new batteries yet! As for the mouse the cradle recharges it and it has back/fwd buttons in addition to the usual sh*t which I really miss using at work... :( Let's see if it lasts the year (Though the last KB was my fault cos I actually broke the lugs on the spacebar when flicking the keys up to clean them. I either don't  or use a hoover now.).

Anyway if you wanna ring Logitech their lines aren't 24/7 - working hrs M-F IIRC - number is 020 73090126 which isn't even 08 or premium!
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/ut.../contact/GB/EN

Sidestepping what I consider the main point... what's exactly up with the mouse Saxo?

Re: New Mouse Advice

Right

The right mouse button clicks like normal but does nothing on the screen, like the command is not going through, the cable is in good condition and not badly distorted, I've tried another mouse in the same USB port and it is fine, and tried tehe Logitech G5 in other ports to no avail.

Sometimes it works for a few minutes then returns back to no right click, even though you can hear the switch click when you press the button.

Whats it like in Safe Mode?

Re: New Mouse Advice

Logitech mouse huh. Bit off topic but thought I'd share...

Dr calls - cannot change the volume in Windows. I VNC to his PC and change the volume - lower it. It moves itself back to full volume :Yikes: Dr also reports green text on his screen - something about master volume. He's tried adjusting the settings on the screen and switching it off/on. Still the green text. The monitor is a Fujitsu - they don't have green text. It's an X-File, methinks. They're here at last :nworthy:

Turned out it was the + volume button on his Logitech mouse - was accidentally pressed

Have not tried, I used to run it with Logitech's drivers installed but they only bugged me with grabbing ram.

After 6month of being used with only windows drivers and faultless service this comes as a little bit of a shock.

I wouldn't bother.I've spent so much on mice in the last two years that I've come to the conclusion buy cheap and then it's not such a bind to go buy another. £30 is a lot of money particularly if you have to replace it again within a short space of time.:)

AndrewJ 03-05-2006 09:09

Re: New Mouse Advice

Well I am calling it a day in regard to getting a replacement looks like it was my fault with the cable being kinked in a few places.

Going to buy a Microsoft cheap opitcal one or the Logitech one Zing is on about and carry on trying to fix the G5 in my spare time...

Re: New Mouse Advice

Thanks iffy :D, on another note Logitech replied to my email and wish for me to try some driver systems they have linked me too, and should it fail they want all the information which is under the mouse to continue into sorting this out.

Re: New Mouse Advice

Right I've tried the stuff Logitech Tech Support asked in the E-mail, as in testing it on various systems, with and without drivers, checking cable etc to no avail.

I have now sent them the reply e-mail with information they wanted to ID the mouse and date of purchase, so crossed fingers for a replacement eh?

AndrewJ 05-05-2006 14:39

Re: New Mouse Advice

Well a replacement is on it's way already :D

The Logitech mx1000 is the best for that price, I actually own one, its very responsive, fast, everything.

If you want I can make a little video of it for you, so you can actually see what its like.

I got mine from PCworld, I reserved it online for store pickup which saved me like 15 pounds when I got it.

AndrewJ 05-05-2006 15:42

Re: New Mouse Advice

The g5 can handle twice the laser resoution of the mx1000 I did consider the MX1000 but the G5 is a pure gaming mouse from Logitech.

I can set on the mouse from 400dpi to 800dpi to a max of 2000dpi.

This coupled with advanced software and little pack of weights in a aluminum case where you can control the weight of the mouse, and how it adapts to games, makes it the only mouse for me.

And with CS like Logitechs around it made a good choice.

Great news Saxo! If only all business's were as efficient as Logitech. :tu:

Well as I have said in my reply mail, I will not be buying any other products for my computers other than Logitechs the g5 is one of their top products so I do expect the to be quick in replacing a faulty one.

But their service was swift and polite.

I am off in morning to sort out my new keyboard...guess which maker

The letters are all wearing off the keys of my logitech keyboard (OEM cordless), though my Medion has a 3 year warranty, I doubt they'd cover it... worth a try though, as it started with a few, and now it's getting silly - the shortest time a keyboard has lasted (still on the original set of batteries!), and the first black keyboard I've had.

Will be cosmetic so I doubt it will be, but worth a try as you say.

A few of my letters are shinier than others notably part of the space bar!

Hi, I just bought one of the Tevion mice as was impressed until I noticed a problem with the left mouse button.
when you click and drag, say you're moving a file, if you stop moving the mouse for a couple of seconds, whilst still pressing the left mouse button, it releases the file as if you'd released the button even though you hadn't.

Anyone else seen this problem??

hi :welcome:

only just now you mention it - you are correct, it acts like it interprets the 'hover' over the destination as a release of the button. :Yikes:

- could be very annoying, if I come across any further info I will post back - good find :tu:

Oh well, at least it's not just me.
I bought a Microsoft mouse for work but it suffered inteference from a colleauges cheap wireless keyboard and mouse then I got an Aldi one that was brilliant but after 2 months the button started to stick so it went back I then paid about £3 for a OEM noname wireless mouse which worked fine but had a ball and kept sticking and the latest one is the Aldi one........ why can't I get a decent cordless mouse ???? Rant over ;)

I can't be ar$ed to play, just now, but I know what you mean, I got the Aldi one, due to the microsoft wireless mouse I got for Xmas interfering with the same model mrs gaz got, which she now uses at work ;)

this current tevion isn't going to match the logitech type devices, but despite the glitches, is still very light & responsive, you can work round a left button drag bug, shirly ;)

I assume the mouse came with a drivers disk? Most Mice you can just plug in and go as they will happily use the Windows built in USB HID drivers.
