Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
here is the link below to download the driver once you downloaded it
unzip the files into a folder and manually update your usb device driver from that folder and its all done http://broadband.motorola.com/consum...HQL_Driver.exe |
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
Wasn't the driver disc in the box?
|
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
lost the box unfortunatly:mad:
---------- Post added at 01:31 ---------- Previous post was at 01:24 ---------- thanks for the link but i already tried that driver and it didnt work i think the 5101 and the 5101E have different usb drivers |
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
1 Attachment(s)
Here you go, cracked my CD open especially for you :)
When you install the USB part just point it to wherever you extracted this Zip to, it should do the rest itself. This includes the whole driver section of the disc :) EDIT: and this disc came with the 5101e model, the same as yours :) |
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
Dude you are a real lifesaver!!!

Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
Use the ethernet port instead ?
It's much more efficient at carrying the data in the first place. |
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
yep gave that a try to still no luck
keep them coming;) |

A few things. First, the drivers are apparently contained in the link in post 2. Second, please don't use all capitals. It is considered "shouting". |
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
Also, the drivers in post 5 work fine.
|
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
dont forget u can download them from the blueyonder website, and tech support can resend the software cd if u ring em!
|
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
I've got similar problems - I downloaded the drivers from the blueyonder and from the Motorola website and the same from here. They are all the same and the file you need is system file that doesn't execute. The tech support people at Blueyonder say that it doesn't work and I have to wait until next Monday for the CD!
Anyone help? |
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
Odd. Mine were taken from the CD itself.
Which file is causing problems, if you know which one. |
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
NetMotCM is the one. Its a system file. No extension.
---------- Post added at 01:04 ---------- Previous post was at 00:14 ---------- Am I doing something wrong? I tried to open it several times and it doesn't open. |
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
Is it a .sys or .ini or .inf file by any chance? It most likely IS the driver, and when running the Add New Hardware wizard in Windows XP, you would just select the directory containing that file and it should install it.
|
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
Morning. :)
Old thred revival FTW! I'm having the same problem-ish. With my USB cable it says there is limmited or no connectivity and I'm gona go with non. I need it to work through my usb but not to sure what to do. A little help? Thank you kindly! Steve |
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
hi guy, i ve just gotten that type of modem and was searching the driver...i ve found it ( tanks y'all )... ill tell you if i can get this things to work....
have a nice nite |
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
Since you have the Ethernet model, I strongly advise you use ethernet, USB is not too hot.
|
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
And just incase.
The legacy USB drivers for ex-Telewest modems can be found here, with instructions on how to save them. http://help2.virginmedia.com/help/ge...testusbdrivers |
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
I needed this too - worked a treat, thanks for making it available!
|
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
I tried these files, but they all seem to be for the motorola SB5101 not the SB5101E.
I have to admit they seemed to go on windows OK, but I can't connect to the intenet or even to the modem itself. Can anyone confirm these drivers will work for the E version of the modem? Many thanks! |
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
I have the SB5101E and the drivers in the zip file in post 5 worked perfectly :)
|
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
Many thanks!
Maybe there are more settings I need to sort out then. :D |

Rooonga, try switching off your modem and PC. Connect the USB cable from one to the other. Switch your modem on. Wait 2 - 3minutes. Switch your PC on. Give it chance to fully load up... And try surfing. If that doesn't work we can then try other steps in case. |
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
It's for my mother-in-law and should be popping over their tomorrow.
I'll let you all know how it goes. Many thanks for the help! |

Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
yes but i don't have much time to go and buy one + my net provider said that they will give one for free to me but i don't have time to do that. i think the simplest version is to download the drivers if they exist
|
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
Yuo won't find them for Vista64 sadly.

Also seen patch cables in ASDA and Tesco, it might be worth trying your local superstore.
£3 in ASDA. |
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
Also VM don't have usb drivers for Vista so you'd need to get them direct from Motorola
and then it's unsupported if things go wrong. Ethernet is definitely better. |
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
Please find below the link for the Motorola support page with VISTA Driver downloads
http://broadband.motorola.com/consum...on=CableModems BUT I DO REALLY RECOMMEND ONLY TO USE AN ETHERNET LEAD AS YOU WILL NOT GET SPEEDS ABOVE 6Mb USING USB. |
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
How would I go about installing these drivers? I have no Idea how to install with Install Hardware Wizard. It always says not responding after it searches for connected modems.
Please Help, Thanks. EDIT: I got into the part where I press Install from disk or "Have Disk..." But I can't find which one I should use. |

I am using an Ethernet cable. Going through a D-Link DI-624 Router.
I don't need the drivers. I need the whole disk. The guy from Shaw never left me the install disk for the modem. |

So, I don't need it?
How come my computer doesn't detect the modem? I can't even get on to the internet. Would i need to make another home network? I wiped my hard drive today and everything was working perfect before. EDIT: It doesn't even detect my modem or anything. I'm starting to get ****ed... |

If you have just reinstalled your computer, you may need some driver software for your Ethernet socket. Try going to the support section of the manufacturer's website and download and install any drivers listed for your computer there. |
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
I just rememberd, While I was looking for my install disk for my D-Link DI-624, I found some Dell disks that say "These are already installed on your computer"
Since I wiped my hard drive, those wouldn't be on the computer anymore. I go into the device manager, and it doesn't list anything that sounds/looks like an internet port. I'm using the one straight from my motherboard. |
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
Ethernet Controller
Realtek RTL 8139 fast family ethernet adaptor Via Rhine fast family ethernet adaptor Should see something along those lines under the heading of Network Adaptors or if not installed properly under the heading of Other Devices. |
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
I see the ethernet controller
I click it, then go to the resources tab, and it says Resource Settings: This device isn't using any resources because it has a problem. Under the general tab it say Device type: Other Devices Manufaturer:Unknown Location:PCI bus 3, device 8, function 0 Device status(box around it) The drivers for this device are not installed.(Code28) To Re-Install the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver Tell me if anything is wrong here. EDIT: I'm using the dell Driver & Utilities disk, and i need to seperately install everything that it is saying is not already on the system. I will tell you if it works. EDITx2: I fixed it! Woot! I just needed to install the network thing drivers. Thanks for yur help along the way though! Now, It's time to set up my network. |

Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
Hmm you connected via ethernet or usb? Here are your options, scrap the usb connection and use ethernet instead. USB too unreliable for broadband internet now and the USB option has been removed from the latest cable modems

Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
If you are using a Motorola SB5101E on the Virgin network then you need to really change to Ethernet as USB connection has not been supported for almost 3 years.
Plus if you are using Vista then it will not work anyway. The drivers are available on the Virgin site but are not supported by them and you can find them here. http://www.virginmedia.com/help/broa...sb-drivers.php If they do not work do not call support as they will be unable to offer support and will just advise you to upgrade to Ethernet. |
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
Do you need any software to upgrade to ethernet, or is it simply the different cable?
Please excuse my ignorance! Thanks |
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
Simply a different cable
|
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
Ah, great.
My problem is that my old computer died, my temporary one doesn't have the software to speak to my Motorola surfboard 5101E since its pretty ancient, I've lost the CD and struggling to gather what I need to download... So the simple switching to an ethernet cable might do the business? Please assume that I know absolutley nothing, since thats true! |
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
Just switch to an ethernet cable. Your PC should pick up the connection instantly.
You may need to switch off the modem entirely for around 10-20secs and then back on to get it to recognise the new connection though. |
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
Great! Even if the computer's old old old? Its windows XP, but it must be one of the very earliest versions.
Thanks again. Trying to make sure I'm connected over xmas... |
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
As long as the network card is set to automatically get an IP address (DHCP) then it'll find the modem and you should have instant internet, remember though what's already been said when you change from USB to ethernet you need to reboot the modem and then start the PC
|
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
Great. Do all computers have a network card as standard these days?
|
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
90%+ of motherboards have them built in, laptops though tend to be supplied with a Wifi chipset insted of standard ethernet
|
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
Right. It is a laptop, but as I mentioned, its pretty old.
|
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
Make/Model?
|
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
Now you're asking...
Its an Acer. Very basic model. Unfortunately I've not got it infront of me. Could maybe tell you later in the afternoon. I really appreciate your help! |
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
No probs, the model number will allow anyone to go only and grab the hardware specs of the laptop.
If it hasn't got ethernet built in then there are options like USB or PCMCIA ethernet cards. Or if you have/aquire a wifi router then you can use (if fitted) an internal wifi chipset or even usb dongle You can though go back to using the USB modem as Moldova has provided you with the driver in post #62 |
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
I'll give that software a try, although from looking back in through the posts, there may be a slight difference from the software available there and my modem. The available software is for the SB5101, not the one with the E at the end. I'm not sure if this still makes any odds?
|
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
You'll find that the E just specifies something like Eurodocsis (which is the cable connection and not the USB), it won't effect the USB output which probably will require the same drivers for the whole series..
|
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
If laptop is older i would have though it would have an ethernet port. All my mprevious laptops up to around 10 years ago definately had one. Ditch the USB connection it is not capable of Virgin's high speeds. (I don't know it's exact limits but i'm sure i've heard it will struggle with even a 10Mb connection)
|
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
I have a laptop which is about 6 years old (Panasonic toughbook) we stick to it as we don't need the fast speed for what we use it for (data logging of ECU data and reconfiguration on the move) at motorsport events.. It has no ethernet or wifi yet is a very expensive laptop..
As for USB if it's USB1 then yes you;d get about 6-8Mb, USB 2 is fine at 50Mb+ |
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
Cheers for clearing that up Kymmy. ;)
|
Re: Motorola SB5101E USB drivers needed
Hi,
changing to the ethernet cable worked perfectly!! Many thanks, you are a life-saver!! |
