Mine is using 25-30 MB of RAM... bit much really.

MS can enjoy keeping that one, then...

Lol. I can't believe it - A gig of RAM and I'm still acting stingy as f$*@ with it.

That amount of RAM is meant to be a luxury not a neccesity, i can see why you're being stingy.

Well Wayne/MadGamer's PC has 2 GB - and that's this one here.

I suppose really it would be frivolous upgrading to 2 GB especially seeing as the rest of the PC rocks and it rarely pages things out even now... but it would increase bragging rights...

Still i do think even 25-30MB for a program is a tad OTT. Microsoft really need to think hard on this one before the final release.

I personally don't have Defender installed, but I have read that it fills up your System Restore folder with its own checkpoints and deletes your System Restore points !

I turn my computer off when I finished with it and I have noticed that there seems to be a Windows Defender checkpoint there each time. Some other checkpoints are there, but not the normal system checkpoints. It might not be that it's deleting them, just that Defender is doing that job now  I don't know, someone in the know might be able to help...

Does anybody think that the program suxxs compared to the old MS Antispyware (formerly GIANT). Its a shame they binned the best antispyware program, I'm guessing so they could integrate a new program into their OS better then the other bought up program.

I discovered the same problem only today - the main annoyance is that their frequency quickly uses up your Sytem Restore space and forces old manual checkpoints off. A bit of googling gave 3 possible solutions.

1) Get rid of Defender.

2) Switch off Real Time Protection, which rather defeats the object of using Defender in the first case.

3) Make a registry change. The details are:

1. Regedit.

2. Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scan

3. Right click that folder in the left tree view, and choose "Permissions".

4. With your username highlighted, click Full Control in the Allow column, and "Apply"

5. With the Scan folder highlighted choose:
Edit, New, DWORD value, and type in "DisableRestorePoint" and hit enter.

6. Double-click DisableRestorePoint in the right column, and set the Value to 1, hexadecimal.

7. Right-click Scan in the left tree view, and choose "Permissions".

8. With your username highlighted, Uncheck "Full Control" in the Allow column, and "Apply".

9. Close the registry editor by hitting the X in the upper right corner, or File, Exit.

I tried no 3) a couple of hours ago and, so far, my machine has not crashed. :) We shall see.
