HDMI output to SONY BRAVIA
 

Hi,

Any thoughts on this problem.

TVDrive connected to Sony Bravia via HDMI lead.
HDMI lead does work as I've tested it with my powerbook and TV displays in 720p and 1080i.

When I select HDTV and HDMI nothing is displayed on the HDMI input, the TV screen overlays flicker as if it is trying to lock onto the signal, but not signal appears.

The Diags screens on the TVDrive say the EDID is OK, but that HDCP is "Not Authenticated". I've no idea is the HDMI input on the Bravia supports HDCP.

The installer and Telewest support are so far unable to help.

Thoughts anyone?

It'll be an input setting on the TV, make sure that you've got the right input selected (AV1/AV4 etc)

Sadly not. The Bravia has 6 AV inputs with HDMI being number 5. Nothing shows when HDMI is selected.

I've had the TV on the HDMI input and all that shows is a blank screen.

I've had the TVDrive into diagnosics mode and the box can see the TV and the EDID is OK. HDCP is not authenticated.

I cannot discover if the HDMI implementation in the Bravia supports HDCP as HDCP is not mentioned in the product documentation and you can have HDMI without HDCP although it isn't common.

If the STB demands HDCP authentication before displaying a picture then 99% of HDTV will not work. Certainly if that is the case then HDTVs with DVI-D and YCM input are all useless.

This is complex evil stuff this HDCP stuff and will stop normal consumers from using these new technologies. Even Telewest have no idea.

Firstly, your TV supports HDCP. Secondly, HDCP is only enabled for afew HD movies on teleport - it is not required to get a picture.

Im not sure if you are doing this correctly: you have to set the TVdrive to HD / HDMI, then quickly switch your TV over to HDMI and using the remote confirm that you can see the picture - if you dont do this within a certain period of time it will switch back to the SCART output. This is catching alot of people out, try it again doing as I said and if it still doesnt work call telewest as it might be that the HDMI output on the STB is faulty.

Sorry tried that and I've even switch to HDMI and that doesn't work. I've switched it back into SD using the STOP/PLAY + RESET hack.

The TV automatically switches to the HDMI input when the STB does the test, but it just displays a blank screen.

I have a Telewest Engineer coming tomorrow, but I'm expecting much head scratching and little else.

I am beginning to think that my STB is screwed. The interface will consistently crash if I use it at all. I can get the interface to crash by using any area, just moving the selection cursor around would be enough to freeze the interface.

But I have noticed that holding the power button down on the remote for about 10 seconds does a reset which does mean I don't have to keep getting up off the sofa.

Well the engineer that came from TW was far more plugged in than the Installer. He verified that I had not done anything stupid. Swapped the box and it just worked.

So STB fault as I has thought.

1080i goodness, now we just need some content.

I had the same problem. The installer said that the hdmi on my bravia did not work because there was no picture. Then, I asked if there was any sound. So I turned up the volume while tuned to the empty hdmi input, and then all of a sudden the hdmi picture came on!

So, try turning up the volume on the bravia, and maybe that'll get the hdmi to kick in.

@bruce2g - that happened only with TV Drive...? or with more equipment like DVD, XBOX360? 'and did you notice more some odd things?
cause my friend is going to buy Sony Bravia too.

I've just had a Sony Bravia KDF-50E2010 delivered and bought a top of the range gold plated HDMI lead. Connected it all up, changed the setting on the TV Drive STB to HDMI and 1080 (also tried 720- same result). Get the message that the test is about to be performed. Hit Yes and the channel switches to HDMI but no picture and no sound - it then reverts back to the scart setting. Don't think its the lead - if I pull it out and try the message says no HD TV has been detected so it knows there's something there.

Judging by the earlier posts here I would say the STB is the problem but just checking I've not missed anything before I get the engineer out.

It took mr hours to work out that once you alter your video/audio settings and are asked to wait while it tests you have to hit the "text" button for some reason (within seconds otherwise it defaults to scart). That seems to set the change ok. (That's on a telewest stb)

I have a question regarding HDMI and the Sony Bravia. I work for a cable company, and we recently began using new Scientific Atlanta converter boxes that have cable cards build into them. Some of our customers who try to use the HDMI connection have been getting the error message "does not support HDCP". We have been trying to find a common thread - Scientific Atlanta suggested it could be the TV is not using the right firmware. One common theme we did find with 4 of them is that they all have Sony Bravia TV's. I don't know which specific model #'s they have.

Does anyone know of any issues with Sony Bravia and the HDMI inputs?

Hi. I'm a non-technical guy so all of previous posts are double dutch to me. I'm virgin/ex-ntl.
I bought a Sony-Bravia recently and upgraded to V+. Engineer installed box and when he left everything was working fine.
Upon switching telly on again I had lost all input. I contacted Virgin help and I think they did something however I still didn't have any input.
I was messing about with telly remote and clicked on av5 and bingo, the cable service returned with brilliant picture and BBC HD channel working perfectly.
When I look at input settings av5 doesn't show anything against it but it works fine now. So at least this lets you know that Bravia/HD/av5 all work.
p.s. I'm really pleased with picture. After using crt all my life I'm astounded.

I have the Bravia 32" (D series I think??) anyway, no problems with the HDMI (on AV4) though I had to make sure the box was broacasting on the HDMI cable..


Only annoying point... Virgin volume control doesn't work on the HDMI :( :td:

Can't you set the remote so it controls your tv volume instead?

I can report this, which may or may not be useful:

My Sony Bravia, which I've had for about three years, only displays the message "Does not support HDCP" when my cable remote accidentally turns on only one of its 2 targets --- the TV or the cable box.

In order to get things back to normal (HD working perfectly), I have to shut off the target that is on all by itself. Then, once I manage to turn on the TV and cable box simultaneously, all's well.

But here's the thing: I have no idea what that message means. In all its glory, I get it on two lines like this:

"Does not support HDCP

Please use yPrPb component connection to watch TV."

Any explanation or elucidation will be greatly appreciated.

YPbPr is a method of splitting an analogue video signal into 3 components. It can use various connector types.

I have a new (6 month old) Sony Bravia, picks up HDMi connection with no problems from V+ box, plus the VM remote works the volume & mute straight out of the box, with no codes added.. etc..

you are setting it to 720 and not 1080? your tv has a bit age does it not? it does not support 1080

Hi,
I have an issue with hdmi and my new sony bravia kdl46s4100 tv set. Every time that I turn my tv on, I have to go into the remote under "input" and change it from hdmi1 to any other input device, ie hdmi2, video1, video2, component1, etc., then back to hdmi1 in order to get a picture. Otherwise I get nothing but a blank screen and "hdmi1" displayed at the top left. Once I do that the picture and recetion is fine until I turn off the tv, in which case I have to repeat the above procedure to be able to get a reception again. I wonder if ayone else has had this problem? I have a Sony technician coming out in a couple of days, hopefully to resolve the problem. At first when I called Sony tech support, they thought that that they could resolve the problem by having me download a "patch", but then then person from sony said that they didn't have the solution on line and they would have to send someone out. I just don'tknow why if the repairman is going to do nothign more than download a patch itno the usb port of my tv, why don't they have it online so I can do it myself and not have to wait? Go figure......
