United Europe

Well it is for two countrys and I think you can guess which two I'm refering too. Yes if Britian doe's anything wrong or upsets them we have hefty penatlys to pay or they just ban British goods.

The French and Germans however well,

EC BACKS OFF EURO FINES
France and Germany have escaped the threat of hefty fines for repeatedly flouting rules put in place to protect the euro.

Hmmmmmmm.........

....... We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.

I just thought it may be appropriate :)

Re: United Europe

I personally would rather tell the french and geeeeeermans to take a running jump.

ity just seems that they like to throw there weight around europe and everybody else can go screw themselves.

Like banning British Beef. For years after it was declared safe France refused to take our meat until eventually they were forced into it or provide compensation etc etc. Even then they took it right to the wire before complying.

The same with this debt business. How long do you think they would have given Britain to get in line? Thjey wouldn't. They would have chucked us out and accused us of holding the rest of europe back with our crap economy. I bet it bites them in the ar$e knowing how economy is sooooo strong and they can't even keep up a defecit!!!! Ha ha ha ha ha

Up yours Europe - Bring the USA-UK Superstate

If you have any points, they are displayed in your user cp, below the list of active threads you have subscribed to. Go have a look just now ... ;)

EDIT - There is a fairly lengthy thread on the subject here:

Clicking on the point will take you to the exact post it meant.

:shrug:You may annoy people less if you implied in the post that if the situation were to change you might reasess your opinion, otherwise people may label you as a euro-hater

We are just so different from other europeans though, probably because we're an island and so don't get influenced as much.
I say lets look into joining with Oz, NZ, Canada and the US, see what the actual outcome could be, pros and cons, and above all be honest about it, as I feel the gov hasn't been honest about europe.
Actually, if they had made the pros and cons clearer, and been honest, and more importantly, been seen to be honest, people wouldn't have such a problem with it.

Having established who repped me and what their views are, I think I can safely say I didn't annoy them :)

I'm happy to modify my views on Europe if I see or hear something significant enough, although at the moment France and Germany getting away with treaty violations and the state of the budget are hardly good adverts for the EU.

As for risking being labelled a Euro-hater ... well, I can hardly post the entirety of my belief on any subject in each post I make, can I? I'd be writing half a dozen essays a day if I did that. It's better to build a discussion of a point of view into an entire thread, I think, rather than a single post.

Didn't Portugal get fined for breaking the rules to save their economy?

And I can understand the excuse Germany has, with the way re-unification was mis-handled, but what's France's excuse for screwing things up?

France's excuse for anything is France's self-interest.

I envy the way they feel able to just give that Gallic shrug before sticking up a middle finger at everyone else and then getting on with doing what suits them.

I wish we would do that a little more instead of being cursed with a Civil Service that enthusiastically implements every Euro-directive to the strictest possible interpretation.

The day we join the Euro is the day I seriously consider emigrating. :(

yes why not better then being in europe

from the article:

Quote:

Mr Eichel has reminded his colleagues that his country is a victim of slower economic growth than forecast and says the rules should be applied flexibly.
the last time i saw some economic data the uk economy was steady and rising in growth terms

this is why going in to europe is such a bad idea someone else controls your government spending budget etc each country has its own needs
