Derby, you've let me down!!!

Quote:

A father-of-14 is demanding a larger house for him to share with his wife, girlfriend and eight of their children.
Mick Philpott, 49, says his council house in Allenton, Derby, is too cramped to accommodate his clan and he wants the city council to rehouse them.
Today, a Derby City Council spokeswoman said: "He has only been on the waiting list since February 24. They already have the biggest available council property in Derby."
Mr Philpott lives with his girlfriend, Lisa Willis, who is expecting his 15th child, and his wife Mairead. The two women are understood to get on well.
Quote:

"They're just not good enough. I love my country, but at the moment I feel ashamed of it. I think the country is going down the pan."
The family live on £508 per week benefits, which are awarded to the two women, along with income from Mrs Philpott's part-time job at a local hospital.
He is also father to six other children, aged 19, 18, 15, eight, seven and five months from three other relationships.
Anyone else thinking that this waste of space shoulf fe*k off and support his own children or shut the fe*k up?? If you want 14 children then you should be able to fully house and support them yourself in my opinion.

You know its bad when anything you say about this waste of space would have to be bleeped out by the swear filter if you typed it in the forum.

so i will do it visually. :2up:

In my honest opinion this guy should be told where to go. If he wants 14 or 15 kids then he should be ready, willing and able to support them without state handouts.

unfortunately they are likely to grow up with the same attitude as their father - that the world owes them a living & they don't have to take any responsibility for their own actions ...

the only thing to blame is our own toothless system for not recognising this issue for the folly it is. These people laugh at the system and the people who pay taxes. The welfare state was not brought in with this scenario in mind.

...What will happen about it? - nothing, that's what - he will get his larger house and when the next bl**dy kid is born the midwife can slap it on the ar$e and say "congratulations you've just given birth to another dole bludging car thief" :(

Its a rip but what would you suggest? The point of benefit is to make sure the child(ren) are ok.

So spend a bit on a compulsory snip and then there will be no need to waste any more money on more kids. In my world he would be forced into a snip. "sits back and waits for Human rights statements"

So do you think it is right that this person can have as many kids as he wants which then puts a strain on the already overburdened state benefits system . And don't say education as i am sure by now he knows what happens when you do it.

I for one are sick to the back teeth with people scrounging of the state benefits system why those of us who pay our tax's get sod all out of it. I am waiting for a appointment over a problem with my sholder i have to wait months and months. Bet this bugger would go stright to the front of the que.

I think he has had too many children. I already stated that.

But do you honestly think forcing surgery on him to stop his ability to give birth is not a massive breach of human rights? Like it or not this man has broken no law and we do not have the right to violate his body because we do not like what he is up too.

We are not a barbaric country.

In that case remove his benefits for any more kids. Simpley make him pay for them. Why should i or anyone else have to fund his bedroom PT.

Because then the children suffer. This is who the benefit is for, to help pay for his children. If you withdraw the benefit then you are punishing the kids for something they do not have control over.

Then remove the ability to bring any more kids in to that situation or tell him straight you get no more benefit no matter what if you have any more kids. The man is a parasite on the benefits system and there should be a point where enough is enough.

  1. This man has not broken a law. We cannot multilate his body because we dont like what he does with it
  2. Cutting off benefits will hurt the children. Not him.
Like it or not this is one of those times you have to accept defeat and that sometimes people we do not like win. You should take comfort in the fact that he is not harming you and file it under the heading 'life sucks'

Yeah :dozey:

I am not going to argue about this really. Our two points of view are fairly different and are going to remain so.

I still stand by my remarks as well. It is a barbaric practice to 'cut his bits off' and cutting benefits will be punishing his kids.

I dont worry or get angry about this stuff because I prefere to concerate on actual stuff thats happening in my life instead of some prat with a couple of hores and 14 children in derby.

I am surprised the women dont put a stop to it. 14 children, they must be getting a bit tired by all of it now :disturbd:

and what about the scenario where individuals who seek the introduction of barbaric sharia type laws are allowed to reproduce and propogate themselves in this manner - eg they all have families of 15 or so on the state who then, in turn, have more families of 15 living off the state and then soon you are outvoted and having your bits being cut off for not agreeing with the majority

So how many people is someone allowed to get child benefit for? (I am assuming it's child benefit since it says the benefit is paid to the women, and he's got a job, albeit part-time.)

Not forgetting that child benefit is there to benefit the child - they have no say in anything - they don't choose to be born, they don't chose their parents.

I think he has a nerve demanding anything - he'll get what there is to have as and when it is available. The situation is entirely of his own making. Kids out of 5 relationships!!! And apparently 2 of those 'relationships' running concurrently???

If he's expecting any sympathy, he's not going to get it, but the solution is not to breach his fundamental human rights, nor is it to disadvantage (further) the children involved.

At risk of appearing stupid, what the hell has Sharia law got to do with a family who live in Derby? Last time I checked, Derby wasn't exactly well known for being a Muslim enclave in the West.

TBH, what business is it of anyone on here to dictate how many kids someone can have? As much as I couldn't stomach the idea of having 14 kids (just the one has deprived me of all my sleep over the last month) but, if he wants to keep having them, that's down to him, his wife and his girlfriend. The benefits system is there for everyone who is entitled to use it - just because some of us find it unpalatable doesn't mean that it's wrong

But how do you know that this guy's a 'sponger' - it might not be much, but this guy has a job. Therefore (and I'm aware that it would depend on income / hours worked), he is also paying tax on his earnings. Moreover, there's no point bringing VAT into it, because he will also be paying that, he may well have a car so will (or should be ;) ) paying road tax, and the chances are that he pays council tax (although that may well be at a reduced rate).

While I do agree this bloke is taking the ****, I think I'd struggle to raise 15 kids on £500 a week. I'd much rather work. I don't exactly fancy having to deal with 15 kids either.

Re: Derby, you've let me down!!!

IMO Derby Council have taken exactly the correct stance:

Quote:

The council spokeswoman said the family's property, which has three double bedrooms and a spare parlour room, has space to accommodate up to 16 people.

The local authority has a handful of five-bedroom homes which are not available at present, she said.

She added: "As soon as anything larger becomes available we will get in touch. Properties to accommodate huge families are not built nowadays. I think they will have a long wait.

"We don't make judgements on people's lifestyles, we just try to accommodate their requests the best we can."

Again IMO people who cannot reasonably support their offspring, whether financially, housing or socially, without excessive state benefits (i.e. over and above standard child benefit / tax credits), should be *offered* the chance to release them for adoption by people who want but can't have children. :erm:

PS: It is one of the mothers who has the hospital job (shouldn't she know better ??)

But how would you define 'excessive' state benefits? Also (and I'm aware that it's pretty much the same question), how would you define someone who can 'reasonably support' their kids?

At present, myself and Mrs Nug aren't exactly rolling in cash. with her now receiving maternity pay, and my pay being reduced this month because of the 2 weeks paternity leave I've just taken. As a result, our income for this month has suffered from an approximate 30% drop. so it could be argued that our son may well not be 'reasonably supported' until I receive full pay again at the end of March. Depending on your definition, should we be offered the chance to have him adopted for the next 3 weeks?

But how much council tax do you pay for living in a shoe ;)

As I said, this family will be paying VAT on any products that they buy; they may well be paying road tax if they have a car and, if the wife is earning enough, she'll be paying tax on her income. I accept that at least one mother is working to support her kids, but it appears the others in the household are entirely dependant upon state benefit over and above earned benefits i.e. child benefit / tax credit. IMO this level of dependance is unacceptable i.e. two adults and who knows how many kids. :erm:

Yeah but, while I accept that there are rather more children than normal in this situation, what's the difference between them and any other single parent with two or three kids, who exists solely on benefits?

None .. but I think that behaviour is all wrong as well, if at the time of conception the mother knew she would have no support besides the state. :erm:

But, to a certain degree, all new mothers are dependant on the state - Statutory Maternity Pay is controlled by the state, as are Child Benefit and Tax Credits.

Anyway, by definition, single mothers will be dependant on the state (amongst others) for a certain period of time after birth, becuase they aren't working - that;s just the way it is.

I think you are being somewhat pedantic here Nug, my kids and missus aren't state dependants and never have been. Yes we all benefit from state help and her indoors has never worked so didn't get maternity pay, but we started our family only when we were sure we could support ourselves adequately. :)

IMO this should be the aim for all new families. :erm:

Pedantic? Me? ;) :p:

TBH, I see what you're saying in that this should be the aim, but it's not necessarily possible in all circumstances - let's face it, we're lucky enough to have a state supported benefit system that's there for the good of everyone but, unfortunately, some people do seem to take an excessive amount from it.

Having said that, I personally believe that there is a difference between someone taking an excessive amount and 'spongers' - as much as people may disagree with this guys actions, he's only claiming what he / they are entitled to. Moreover (and has been said elsewhere in this thread), 508 quid a week isn't actually that much money for 17 people - it only works out at £29.88 each. To put that in context, if someone smoked 20 Lambert & Butler a day, that would cost £30.80 a week.

In a way you are quite right, they are claiming no more than they have a right to.
But like many feel, it does seem to be adding insult to *demand* a bigger house because they are over productive .. :erm:

I can't imagine the thought process .. we've got loads of kids and no support .. OK let's have more kids !! :erm: Or the single girl / woman .. I have no income and no support, how can I improve my circumstance ? Oh I know, I'll get knocked up and the state will provide for me whilst my parents look after my offspring. :(

At the end of the day, I struggle to support my two and the missus on not much less. Plus you should remember they will get reduced rent, council tax and free dentist etc.
