New user... NTL or Telwest?

Hello, first post at Cable forum. I'll be in the London area in a month and I haven't understood which one between NTL and Telwest offer the best service.
I'd say that between "always up' connection and "super fast" I'd like to put the priority on the first one. I don't like being with no connection.... I prefer have less than none.

Thanks

May actually just come down to who can provide you with the service. Have you tried the post code checker on both sites? You may find you can only get one.

I suppose technically soon there won't be a difference between them, they'll both be NTL ;)

if you had a choice between NTL and Telewest, i'd go for telewest, they give you more for your money, with Telewest you can get 2MB Broadband got £14.99 for 12 months then £17.99 thereafter.

With NTL you can get 1MB Broadband for 3 months at £8.99 then £17.99 thereafter.

Check for yourself what you'd think is better:

www.telewest.co.uk
www.ntl.co.uk

Like we have already said though..... you may find only one operates in your area so you may well have very little actual choice.

Could You tell me if the 2MB with telwest is able to mantain 200Kb of effective bandwidth under a 500MB download?
Cheers

Re: New user... NTL or Telwest?

It depends on where you are downloading from. Theorettically yes, it also depends on how subscribed where you are moving to is.

if you live in a telewest area then you're very lucky as that price for 2meg for your first year - £14.99 per month is good.

Re: New user... NTL or Telwest?

Is it possible to assume that because of the name (Telwest) the service is offered more on the west side of London?

Re: New user... NTL or Telwest?

nope... the name is nothing to do with the parts of london that telewest cover.

NTL broadband doesn't work any more. It's broken.

If you get a place in an NTL area then you'll have to get BT broadband.

Is BT broadband with cable or with phone line?

Are there any company offering satellite service?

BT Broadband relies on a BT Phone Line, and yes there are Satellite services around but they are prohibitively expensive, not very reliable, they require a dial-up connection for Up-Stream communication and you can get better, faster broadband for a lot cheaper over standard means (Cable, Phoneline)

Ok, it seems that the best solution is telwest....
I'll keep that in mind while looking for the place.

Thanks

With regards to the Satellite systems i am affraid sir you are misinformed. Granted they are expensive, normally somewhere around £300 ish for a 2mb connection per month. But they are reliable, from reading here more so than NTL it would seem ;) true some of them do require a dial for the Up Stream, but on a whole most of them transmit from the dish as broadband speeds. I know of a few companies which do 4mb down and 4mb up, and i have managed to get a 10mb down speed through a sat system which maintianed that speed nicely all day.

Sorry, I was joking about NTL broadband being broken. It's fine for most although many have been complaining about reduced speeds lately.

For me, it works perfectly. 10Mb all the time.

Thats your experience, it's not so all the time.
