adsl recommendation
 

Hi,

I'm looking to get some adsl broadband, checked my postcode and its servicable upto 8mb.

Budget £30 per month
Usage - Unlimited or at least 40gb per month
Equipment - got my own thanks
Term - Need to be flexible not wanting to commit to more than 3 months at a time.

If theres anyone that gets ÃƒÆ’Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£ÃƒÆ ’‚£ for reccomending a freind etc I'd be happy to do that also so long as it fits with the above criterier (sp)

Well, I'm biased, but I recommend Nildram :D

50GB per month £25.99 PM, unlimited allowance off peak (12am - 8am)

Yes its unlimited providing you get the 21.99 package which is called premium I think.

Bulldog? Mmmmmm. Not gonna comment apart from the number of complaints we are handling at BT Repair everyday is increasing. Seems Bulldog CS like to tell their customers that everything is BTs fault and to ring us when their line fails instead of ringing them.

Handyman, it might be a good idea to check out the forums here http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/ it's always a good idea to get user reviews, to see just how reliable an isp is as well as what they have to offer by way of bandwidth and other features etc etc.

Plusnet's contention without that heavy traffic shaping they do is closer to 80:1 but still...

They have a 'comms' department who appear devoted to telling porkies about their latest development in dragging more out of their existing bandwidth without upgrading it, traffic shape insanely heavily and extensively, have more fair use / sustainable use policies than you could shake a stick at, and currently their customer services is rather up the spout after some big outages and a big backlog in dealing with queries.

Call me cynical but I prefer my ISPs to be able to handle more than about 70% of customers having modems connected at once. Plusnet don't have the capacity to handle all their customers being online at once.

On the upside they do have nice usage graphs which show quite effectively how heavy their traffic shaping is (unless of course they are the only ISP in the world whose traffic peaks at about 2am).

No it is not, it has various fair use policies which essentially mean if you use too much at the wrong times they throttle you to death. It's called Premier.

So do you know of any proper unlimited isps that you would reccomend ignition?

I'm downloading quite a few linux iso's (seriously I actually am) looking for one I like.

Few and far between!

Bulldog are one of very few.

Check what LLU options are available to you via http://www.samknows.com

I use Homechoice but I know Bulldog, Be and UKOnline have no fixed limits and go right up to 24Mbit. Bulldog 8 at present but 22 coming.

Just don't go with 'plus'net if you actually want to use the internet.
