Heard of this scam?

Had a phone call about 10 mins ago, it was a recorded message saying "This is Patrick from DHL calling about delivery of your personal radio, call me back on my personal number 07094 606 107"

What's that about?

I may try it when I pop down to tha cashpoint later.

What do you reckon though, I had a recorded one like that when the AA was coming to pick me up. This one sounded a bit dubious, and I am not expecting a parcel anyway.

I don't know, I've heard of scams where you dial a number ( from home ) and it makes your line available to the scammers to dial up premium rate numbers that they collect from.

What line did you use to call him from? Does sound suss.. but can't see how it could cost you anything other than a normal mobile rate?

Scam 4 - premium rate telephone number: 07094

If you see a contact telephone number that begins with the numbers 07094, beware. This is not a standard mobile phone code, but a premium rate number.

How does that work.. I thought they made all premium rate numbers 09* for a reason?

Oh well Rammy, seems like you have an interesting wait until the phone bill comes in :)

Errr....

http://www.downloads.bt.com/pricing/SpecialisedNos.pdf

47p a minute in the evenings.. 070946 is a PN2 number apparently :erm:

As its not a standard mobile number, that's really irresponsible from BT/whoever...

070's are commonly used as "personal numbers" ie when you phone someone in hospital etc, off the top of my head they are roughly about 49p per minute

Does Rammy want me to check his calls for him and maybe work out a payment plan to pay this call off ??? oops:

Sorry dear :erm: Well, gave you something to do didn't it oops: :Sprint:

I'd advise anyone if they don't recognise the number or the message isn't relevant to them then don't ring back, if it's important they'll ring back at their cost not yours;)

Why do we pay for these ****ty regulators?

http://www.icstis.org.uk/default.asp

Quote:

What are Premium rate numbers?

Premium rate services offer some form of information or entertainment that is charged to your phone bill. Alternatively they may be used to scam you out of your hard earned money!*

Quote:

This is what we know about the number you entered (07094606107).

ICSTIS does not regulate this type of number. However we can tell you the following.

* This is classified as being used for Personal Numbering.
* It is provided by Pipemedia Ltd.

Cretins, a premium rate regulator that doesn't regulate premium rate numbers!

*last sentence my addition.
