logmein.com

I have set this up as an experiment on a few computers and it works well. Is it as secure as it claims? Are there any pitfalls etc. does anybody else use this etc appreciate any feedback :)

excellent app. I used to use it and I know a lot of people who still do. very handy tool. Never heard of any security issues with it. I used it to view my webcam at home from my work PC... I waited for the missus to sit down with her dinner, then called the house phone to get her back up... oh how i laughed. she swore at me though. i don't think she was as impressed with it as me!!!

Been using logmein for ages now providing support at work. Highly recommended software.

If you do worry about security, you can always disable the agent from the tray icon and get your remote user to activate it when you need to connect. But to be honest, I have never had any problems with the software.

It bypasses the firewalls because you installed the client on the machine in question? you installed it in work with no problems from the administrators in your place of work? or does it not work like that in your place of work?

can you drag and drop stuff with it? have not tried that yet

am using it from my work machine to control my home machine without any problems, didnt even need to do anything on my home machine and work machine isnt giving grief either.

dragging and dropping you can only do if you got the full version and not the freebie

aye 'tis a nice utility. As for security make sure your access password is secure. Ie: alphanumeric, upper and lower case etc.

I store them in a yahoo briefcase or similar so they can be accessed from anywhere - as long as you can get onto the net that is

I prefer RealVNC.

Much less bandwidth usage.

How does it work - I've scanned through the site but it doesn't really go into details...

Basically my issue is I work for a bank, and they have very high security, so various ports are blocked.. and trying to run something like pcanyway, or remote desktop out of the network is next to impossible (it's hard enough internally)...

as far as I can see it goes over port 80 so shouldnt really be blocked. but if you work for a bank then you have to be very very very careful as anything you do on the system can be classed as breach of the Data protection act :Yikes:

Don't think so mate, may be against the Computer Misuse act but not data protection. :)

So is LogMeIn safe? How long is the free trial and what happens when the trial expires??

Cheers!

Re: logmein.com

I use LogMeIn Free and it's quite good. The Java is a bit buggy and sometimes hangs, but I guess that's a quirk of the old Java/Windows 2000 which they have installed at my college.

After the trial, just like the things in Cinderella (or some fairy tale), the enhanced "pro" functionality disappears, and you're left with the free verison, which is remote control only unless you choose to upgrade to the pro version and pay a sub.
