NTL Internet access problems - 07 Mar 2006
Getting lots of server not found messages and unable to access NTL status page. I have tried another proxy and that's not working at all.
I'm in DN16 area. |
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
Having the same problem with many pages and I come under Mansfield at NG17 area.
|
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
Same thing here in Woking, a right pain in the ****
|
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
Glad to know it's not just me!
|
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
Meant to also say it has taken about ten goes to get access to this site and pictures are not loading here or elswhere on the net.
|
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
I'll go and do something useful, things will be working again tomorrow, I hope.
Some sites seem to be working to some extent once again, but as looselipsuk says pictures not loading. |
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
Same problem in Nottingham NG11.
It seems to have been fine most of the day but has just started acting up. I see from the status page that we were due some upgrades today, but they should have finished ages ago at 6am this morning. |

Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
Wondering if it is a main server problem somewhere and nothing to do with NTL at all.
|
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
Big problems in Manchester (Baguley proxy)
|
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
got the same here in Northants....and its got to do with the Poxy Proxy and the DNS servers of NTL (at least thats what MSN messenger troubleshooting said)
|
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
Problems here too - trying www.google.co.uk sends me to a different site altogether!
|
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
Im having major slowdown when pages are actually loading... it seems like NTL have major issues at the moment.
Im in Bishops Stortford (CM23) and on the 10mb service. |
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
I can't even get bbc.co.uk :(
I get re-directed to this: http://www.uk.com/results/bbc?src=bbc Now I know why I really want to move over to Zen next month after my local exchange has been upgraded to 8Mb |
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
yeah Byron on Firefox I get time outs and if I ping it on the google.com ip address then its alright (ip of google is 66.102.9.99)
Jingle I can get news.bbc.co.uk up but no pics or anything and slow as hell |
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
Similar problems here south of Nottingham. Can get to some sites. Have tried different proxies to no avail. Cannot even ping some well known sites. I can connect to a site within the ntl network OK, so it would seem to be a peering issue.
APS |
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
Same here in Cambridge!!
Getting lots of DoS pings! |
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
ebay.co.uk is a complete no no. Cannot even get the page to display.
Glad I'm not bidding on anything at the moment. |

ntl DNS servers?
am i right in thinking NTL's dns servers for broadband are 194.168.4.100 and 194.168.4.101
the router gives its own ip as the DNS server when left for dhcp and although this does work (it probably just forwards the request to the ntl server) i want to specify the right dns to use in my computers networking config i want to find out if thats why if i try to open about 3 tabs at once it seems to cause an issue where i then cannot browse till i either specify a proxy or reset the router :Yikes: |
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
Problem here also im quite near to Woking. 99% of sites resolve fine for me but I cant get onto google or ebay!! Two sites I really need to be working. NTL email and all ntl web pages fine.
---------- Post added at 19:54 ---------- Previous post was at 19:54 ---------- OK google is back. No ebay though. ---------- Post added at 19:55 ---------- Previous post was at 19:54 ---------- And finally ebay is attempting to draw a page for me.....slow as |
Re: ntl DNS servers?

Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
Been having problems in NG17 here as well.
I've done some traceroutes and I've noticed that sometimes the name / address of the hop takes a while to appear, is this normal or could it be related. |
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
google you can get on via the ip http://66.102.9.99 just tried it and fine .... www.google.com no go for me.
ebay no pics for me just plain text on firefox, Internet expl. isnt getting any sites on. |

Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
yep, same probs here in ST5. Having to use Nottingham proxy to post
|
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
Things do appear to be abit sluggish here too.
Is there anyone not on ntl having the same issues? |
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
Mick checked with a couple of mates on BT lines and no probs with them
|
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
I've been able to ping allsorts of sites but haven't been able to get many. I got here through google. Yahoo refuses and even NTLworld is dodgy.
I'm in the DN15 postcode. |
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
ebay is drawing a page for me and I can sign in but cant get to my ebay. Pain
|
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?

|
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?

Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
Seems to be affecting NTL newserver as well.
I get "MSG=DNS - Unable to find server's address" for the NTL server in newsbin but newshosting is fine. |

It appears anything it can load from a cache works (google - but perhaps only common searches), but anything secure or like webmail won't work at all. |

Re: ntl DNS servers?
Quote:
I want to see if specifying the DNS server resolves the problem as the DHCP on the router is issueing its own IP as the DHCP server so my computer is first asking the router to do the DNS lookup rather than the DNS servers. I don't want my computer to do that i want to to send the dns request to the DNS server rather then first trying to ask the router to do the dns lookup. i got the first IP 194.168.4.100 from the routers status page but it doesn't list a secondary DNS server so im guessing with the 194.168.4.101. |
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
According to the service status page there are no listed problems!!!
What a load of crap that is. LOL |
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
anywhere is problems..... NTL DNS and PRoxy servers are both toasted
|
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
I am using nott-cache-1.server.ntli.net (I am usually on the baguley one) but it isn't much cop. Cable Forum loads up okay (thank god, or I'd be screaming at the PC by now thinking I was being Dos'd) but nothing much else.
I first realised something was wrong when Yahoo Mail gave me a right strange messed up password page. Then google borked. So...hmmm |
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
Same problems in Warwickshire. Far from being the 1st time, this has been happening on and off for months. Oddly enuf its nearly always BBC news and Google that seem to suffer.
|
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
This is the worst problem I have encountered on NTL. Apart from a car taking out my local cabinet, all has been fine.
It must be a serious fault though. |
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
heres something interesting. got a friend in Italy at moment and he is having same issues....doubt he will be using NTL as his internet!! maybe not an NTL issue? will post more as he replies to me emails
|
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
There is a big problem somewhere - access from the Nottingham proxies are appalling atm - I've switched to another part of the country for the moment, seems better for the moment.
|
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
Im in Derby DE23 - can't get bbc.co.uk or imdb.co.uk in fact, can't access most of the sites I go to but the US sites I access daily such as macworld.com, macosrumors, for example] are fine. So is Sky news website.
V weird, v annoying! FYI, email doesn't seem to affected |
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
...and in Watford too!
|
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
In the words of Paul Calf, NTL "Bag of Sh*te." Why do we have to pay for such P*ss poor service. Some of us don't have the option of Sky and BT or anyone else supplying us with broadband, NTL have got us by the danglies and don't give a sh*t.

Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
Same story in South Manchester - no access to bbb.co.uk or google.co.uk from NTL, both working through my Vodafone 3G datacard (only time in comes in handy).

FTP, IRC, MSN all working fine! |
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
I bet as we speak NTL engineers are running around trying to find out which piece of equipment needs switching off and back on again.
After all does that not solve all problems...... |

Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
My google mail is having problems too, but thats been intermittent for a couple of days. I just thought it was my Gmail software buggering about.
|
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
I think its dns, I've tried speaking to the tech support about it but they are useless. My findings:
C:\Documents and Settings\Dan>nslookup www.google.co.uk Server: cache1.ntli.net Address: 194.168.4.100 *** cache1.ntli.net can't find www.google.co.uk: Server failed nslookup queries the DNS servers (nothing to do with the web caches) and this query appears to fail because ntl's DNS cache does not contain google.co.uk (which it should really). I tore my hair out trying to explain this to the tech support, I hung up when they asked me to reboot for the 3rd time. :( If we could get terrestrial or sky where we live I would drop NTL in a heart beat. |

Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
THe DNS servers were failing but they seem to have started responding again.

Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
out of hours service :) nah
we can all wait until tomorrow eh :) Back to WoW. Please work please work please work |
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
am using a 4.2.2.1 as DNS server now and all pages load up perfectly :D no probs for me so it is the DNS server thats gone a bit pearshaped
|
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
I think it's an intermitent problem. Sometimes the DNS servers timeout, other times they supply spurious data.
Tech support say they are unaware of a problem with the servers. hmmm |
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
I think therein lies the answers. More or less everybody gets sod all for nearly a week.
HEY NTL! How about a rebate. |
Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?
Mastic... if your behind a router try the dns 4.2.2.1 as that has worked for me for now.
