Crikey - that sounds a bit drastic. Where did you hear that?

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk has the story.

Basically the network there is crap and ntl don't want to spend the money overbuilding it and getting it ready for the analogue switch off so it's being switched off.

I dont know anything about that area, but if its an old network requiring lots of work/money to bring up to scratch it could be true as ntl are just trying to spend as little as possible on the plant side of things.

ntl have shut down a number of networks, including one fairly modern 860MHz system.

Certainly :)

Is anyone else getting annoyed by this mixture of "black" speak/text speak recently?

Yes, but the single word "waz" is hardly enough to start ranting about, especially with the usual standards of spelling and grammar on internet forums.

Yeah I think it's ridiculous but they can't be making much in the way of profit from that area.

Quoted for emphasis.

I was just agreeing that it gets much, much worse then what he wrote.

Right to break away from the crap above.

Perhaps they aren't, in which case they should get some crowbars and prise open the vice like bottoms holding the budget and overbuild the network with proper HFC, then they can enjoy monopoly in some places where people can't take a dish (which seems pretty common) and enjoy monopoly of broadband where BT can't get ADSL there due to the 'interesting' wiring (also surprisingly common).

Actually did anyone wire up the Isle of Dogs half decently? Both BT and the cableco wired it with crap.

In any case, that's all I have to say. Rather than wasting money trying to maintain they should overbuild, would have made a fair bit of cash on it, as it is looks as though BT will overbuild with fibre (trialling there already).
