Inbound connections ?

Can someone please tell me why I am getting so many hits on my firewall, these are the details,

Inbound connection made from 192.168. there are 2 more numbers but Ido not know if I should disclose these ? there have been 2553 since 11/02/06

Protocol 17-UDP, user datagram.

Port 137 138 1900

Should I be concerned about these attempted connections, Thanks.

Sounds like your firewall is doing a great job, i would be more concerned if it didnt catch them,
But it does seem quite a lot.

Infected PCs that have no firewall, anti-virus software or anti-spyware etc. Also that sort of thing could be caused if you P2P at all. If you are worried then you can report it, personally I just bought a router and let it get on with it lol

If it's a 192 address then that's something on your network. Any other PC's connected? Perhaps time for a spyware sweep. :)

LOL didn't notice that ;) Definately something within your network so as Shaun says do a virus, spyware, trojan and adware scan and also double check your firewall settings to see what is hitting your from that address.

My son is connected through my router and I do daily sweeps with Spyware doctor which has deleted some nasties, also run AVG FREE with no hits, and no I do not use p2p, who can I report it to ?

Re: Inbound connections ?

No one. The IP address is within your internal network address range so the odds are it is either something on the PCs or just a ping from your son or your network hardware. Does the IP address match your sons PC IP address? What is the IP by the way, it's internal so no one can hurt you if you tell us.

192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.101

My son's IP address is 66.294 etc

Re: Inbound connections ?

go into Start menu,
click "run",
type:
cmd
hit enter
type the following into the command prompt box that opens:
ipconfig /all
(please be careful of the space between ipconfig and / )
You should then get a screen with a lot of info on it. In that info will be your IP address and your default gateway (often your router).
You can do this on yours and your sons' PC or you could go into your router config page and get the information there ;)

It says that the IP address is 192.168.1.101 can't remember how to interagate the router !

Re: Inbound connections ?

Well that seems to be one of the IPs you are getting pinged by ;) Looks like your firewall needs configuring.

Re: Inbound connections ?

Can my own machine ping itself then ? sounds scary :Yikes:

Re: Inbound connections ?

no need to worry - you aren't being attacked. Like Paul says, it is just a bit of a problem with your own network.

Those IP addresses are internal ones for your ethernet cards inside your pcs. It's when you start getting weird messages from your firewall along the lines of:

INCOMING ALERT
xx.xx.xx.xx is trying to connect to <random name>.exe via port xxxxx

that you need to be concerned. Then what you do is slap your son for looking at dodgy sites and letting the naughty spyware programs get on your network. ;)
