Is it me or...
Does it seem that over the past few weeks the service seems to be degrading from one area to another...
Are NTL just frigging around to make it look as though they have fixed one area, only to re-route the network congestion through to another area leaving it like this until the next mass customer complaints start...:monkey: errr, conspiracy theory... :D |
Re: Is it me or...
Maybe it's just as much to do with the P2P users that are now smashing the hell out of the network with their increased speeds. The infrastructure is obviously unstable at the moment but thanks to a certain area of the NTL BB user base the 10Mb lines are being thrashed constantly.

Re: Is it me or...
No, I don't believe it's down to P2P users at all. You can't blame it on these people all the time. That's just a scapegoat that a lot of people have had drummed into them. If that is the case why don't all other ISP's have the same problem...
Why? Because their network optimisation is better than NTL's that's why... NTL have overloaded their own network by trying to rush into the speed upgrades. Just ask anyone that's on Telewest if they have problems with their connections/speed. I bet not many do... |

Who to blame for the problems? their are people who probably leave torrents running 24/7 but if they are on either of the bottom 2 tier's they are no longer breaching the TOS. If anyone I would blame the communication within the company, the rollout appears rushed based on market conditions of sky acquiring easynet and bt's maxdsl coming into play. Their was chaos in CS during the first 2 months and TS still are not troubleshooting the problems correctly, I am glad that so far they are holding of extending the rollout to the lower tiers. |

To answer your original question no I don't think it's a conspiracy. Why look for a complicated conspiracy when good old fashioned incompetence is staring you in the face :) |

Re: Is it me or...
hah I dont know who's network is actually better, I just go on what ignitions know how was and he seems to have some insight that telewest's network isnt in as good shape. Ntl using proxies in theory should have more free bandwidth for non http use and the cap on the top tier should in theory help, but this only helps if the bandwidth is provisioned on the same level as it would have been without these procedures in place otherwise their is no benefit to the customer.
Personally everyone I know on telewest has great speeds and 2 on ntl have problem's, but I know more people on ntl so it would be more likely to know someone who has problems. |

Actually I was quite happy on my old 3MB line. It never used to give me any problems. I think you'll find that "my whinging" started earlier this year, when all the problems first started happening... <removed> There how about that for whinging.... Post edited: Behave please if you wish to keep posting. |

No dynamic routing protocol would give routes that insane so without going into too much detail these look manually provisioned. Take an IP network and use MPLS (badly) to turn it into an ATM-style static path network. Good call guys. |
Re: Is it me or...
yeah their appears to be manual routing, why would giganews -> ntl go over level3 in some areas when they directly peer with each other.
Ignition from what you knew when you was there is it possible their would be saturation by now if routing more directly and they may be routing around these choke points instead of upgrading them? |
Re: Is it me or...
http://www.ntl-isp.ntl.com/ServiceStatus/
This could explain your problems and should always be the first place to check. There is a link at the bottom of the page from CF to NTL Status |
Re: Is it me or...
(Hint)
It might be helpful if all the 10 MB complaints all went in one thread. It seems like every other thread is a rant about the quality of connection or download or whatever of 10 MB. (Hint) :tu: |
Re: Is it me or...
problem is when in 1 thread it gets cluttered and lost, I can see the need for different threads if you make a post and within 5 mins its 2 pages deep because of the large number of posters these merged threads get. If the problems are then found to be related then a merge is then good.

Re: Is it me or...
Just an FYI - on 10Mb here in SE London and friend on 1Mb also SE (clean setups) - both sites show continuous slow then normal service over last 4-5 days. Called BB support and it seems that this problem is related to the Telewest merger i.e. could be to do with network infra. consolidation. I asked the support person if she thought that it was to do with the merger and she said "How did you know that, sir?" - so they are being very coy about what is going on. When asked, she said that it was specifically to do with network changes and not just proxy cache servers etc. There are also problems in the Bromley area on top of that, which are also network specific - the proxy servers in Bromley are not the best anyway, so use other servers if possible.

Re: Is it me or...
Thats why I updated my problems in a bigger thread then mine to keep it in the same conversation.
I doubt responsetek would have responded in a way acceptable to me I would likely be told its a "up to" service and it would be left at that. |

As far as the 'How did you know' part that's equally hilarious. Did she think that ntl / Telewest only tell their staff these things? |
Re: Is it me or...
Quite agree though, i would sooner have my 3meg back, the 10meg is only 10meg for a short period each day. And then its not stable, mind you atm i'm awaiting another engineers visit. :(

Re: Is it me or...
Now I know why you call yourself Ignition - one spark and the whole lot goes up. Just reporting what I experienced ... you've got a point though.
