There is a Cartridge World recently opened up in Cambridge, I don't know what they are like, or if their products are any good because I have never used them, but as they are an International franchise I can only assume that they must have something going for them as their guarantee is quite good.

Personally I wouldn't touch 3rd party inks, but then I do print a lot of photos.

If your printer has print heads that are not attached to the cartridge (sometimes called RPH, remote print heads) then don't use anything other than manufacturer inks, or it might get expensive (and I have seen it happen, as these inks don't contain the necessary chemicals that the printer uses to clean the heads automatically, so they clog).

If your print heads are on the cartridge, then you're at much less risk from this, as you effectively replace the heads each time you replace the cartridge.

So if you're printing plain text then 3rd party inks are probably going to be OK. If you're wanting to do photos, unless you spend more on pro-inks, I'd steer clear.

If you're after decent prices on genuine inks, try 7dayshop or MX2.com

EDIT: IIRC your printer uses individual inks correct? I think this one has RPHs, but might be worth double checking.

£6 a set for the epson r200/220 arndale media manchester... they do the northern computer fair at bowlers trafford park every saturday. I use nothing but compatibles, and so do all my family and friends, non of us have had any probs with them... I've used them for about 8 years. and if they do mess up, it would still work out cheaper in the long run to go out and buy a new printer.

These I have found very good (ordered 8:30pm on 23rd Feb arrived 27th). :tu:

You may get a box asking you if you wish to continue using non Epson Cartridges every time you print. But for the incredible savings it is well worth it. I just got 20 cartridges for less than £24 including postage. :D

get a CIS system (continous ink system), even cheaper than the cheapest £1 ink compat carts you can get. Cost about £40 for the CIS and inks bottles 500ml per bottles complete 6 bottles are around £40 also on ebay

IF you go here http://www.tofftech.co.uk/go/printer_consumables.html
You can type in the name / model / manufacturer of your printer and it will give a list of toners and ink cartridges and ribbons available

In the case of the Epson R200, a complete set of Epson ink's can be 95% of the cost of a new printer  . So you have to ask if its worth risking 3rd party inks (I myself have never had any issues with them - the odd clog happens just as often with Epson inks), or simply throw the printer away and buy a new one when the inks supplied with the printer run out.

Having said that; none of the 3rd party inks I've tried are quite as good for photo's as the Epson inks, but considering how often I need top quality prints its better for me to just keep a set of Epson inks on standby [fortunately the Epson R200 cartridges don't have sponges and are sealed air-tight when not installed] and just change when needed.

My old Lexmark (Z25) cost me £25 and a set of new carts was £40. Of course, I've condemned that to the attic and now have a HP PSC 1410 which costs less to run - and an upgrade as well!
