Pandora
 

Pandora is a web site that will create customised radio stations based on your tastes in music, IE, you enter an Artist and they will make up a playlist for you based on your selection, its all flash based and seems to work seemlessly, you get 10hours of music for free, a subscription is $34/year so about £18/year. Give it a go. Im impressed.

Heh, I just discovered this site tonight... so far I like the choices it has thrown at me. I thought it might struggle with a lesser known group such as Gene, but it identified them and others correctly :tu:

Folks,

Just found this site and thought it may appeal..

www.pandora.com

Its free if you don't mind advertising (and I run Firefox with adblock with it just sitting in a tab, so I don't notice any advertising.. :naughty: ).

You tell it one piece of music you like, and it sets up a streaming radio station playing music it think you may like based on that selection...

If you like it, great, if not - sorry for wasting your time ;)

Flip me, that's clever. Trying it out now ... I like the first track anyway.

I told it I like 'Who Wants to Live Forever' by Queen, and it's giving me 'Usually' by the Trashcan Sinatras. I've never heard of them, but I like them. Good start. :)

BTW, after about five songs you have to register. They want to verify you're in the US so they ask for a US Zip code. They say their licence restricts their web radio activities to the USA but IMO asking for a zip code is not trying very hard to restrict use.

I mean, anyone old enough to remember that ultimate rich brat teen drama, Beverley Hills 90210, already knows a random zip code they can give the site to keep it happy. ;)

I have my own address in Akron that is pretty good at fooling sites ;)

Anyway, this site is grea,t i'm on my 4th song by it, and already i know of one band i'm going to be hunting down (the rest were actually my favourite songs!)

Nice! Very nice, just stuck in something a bit obscure (Bola) and its come of with other stuff that is relevant and sounds similar and more importantly is bloody good.

I think this is going to hurt my wallet.

As far as I know, it's now available in 2 versions

Ad Funded - Free with an account - Enter a US Zip Code like 90210 during registration

Fee Funded - No Ads but costs a small amount each year, im happily using the ad funded version

There is another site like www.pandora.com (which is ace BTW) called www.lastfm.com

Unlike Pandora it does require a download but it does "plug-in" to both Windows Media Player and iTunes as well so benefits and disadvantages...

But it does appear to have a bigger range of music and provides you with information on the artist.

Give it a go - either way - im loving this stuff.
