£105?!? !?!?!

Okay, signed up for 3 for £30 service, bought individual channel for TV - £6, paying an extra £2.99 for 1 Meg unlimited internet, family pack free for a month i believe, so my bill should be around £39 per month shouldn't it? Then why did I get a bill for £105 this morning.

TV - £41
Telephone - £12.50
Internet - £48

Possible admin error there! NTL tried to charge me for a 1mb AND 2mb service at the sametime, even though I was only on the 2mb service. Give CS a call and see what packages thier systems say you are on.

If there is an error, kick up a right royal fuss as its not your fault!

This happens an awful lot, what kind of dumb idiots do NTL employ!

Re: £105?!? !?!?!

If its going to carry on like this forget the 12 month contract, I'll get my direct debit cancelled. And yeah, I guess I'll have to call CS or the sales person that got me to sign up with NTL.

Re: £105?!? !?!?!

Dont do anything too 'rash'. Before you go cancelling Direct Debits find out what the situation is and should there be any issues have your objections noted on your records.

Be sure to take names of every person you speak to during your conversations. That way any screw-ups can be traced back to thier origin.

If you go out an cancel your DD without speaking first to NTL it could end up making things worse.

Re: £105?!? !?!?!

If you don't get anywhere with CS, let the team know and we can pass your problem to our internal contacts.

I understand what your saying, I will talk to NTL first though, and will expect the extra money back.

And thanks Paul

Re: £105?!? !?!?!

From your post I assume you're a new customer? If that's correct, I would then assume that these are advance charges for rental. It is usual with most companies, particularly communications ones, for the initial charges to be:

This month's rental
Next month's rental in advance
Any outstanding installation charges

Not being an NTL customer I don't know what their actual charges are (and haven't investigated them either) but I do know when I've changed any of my package I get:

Refund on the remainder of current month for amended package
Charge on new package for remainder of month
Refund on already paid rental for next month
Charge on new package for next month
Plus any other standard billing costs

Hope this is of some help, and something for new customers to bear in mind on receipt of first bill.

Re: £105?!? !?!?!

I used to work in CS and used to get a lot of calls from custs when they got their first bill as it was always higher than they were told it would be.

This is due to partical month charges. Your first bill always covers from when you were installed upto your bill date and then you actual month charge.

For example your install may take place on the 8th of the month and your bill date maybe the 27th. So your first bill has charges from the 8th till 28th and then the normal month in advance charges.

Check the bill and see what dates you are being charged for.

I was a telephone customer before, anyway I'll just type up what the bill says, maybe it is just me not understanding it properly.

Re: £105?!? !?!?!

It looks like your one month free family pack shows up as a subscription to the family pack, with two half months discount. So, you are subscribed to that. Plus, they are charging you for Jan, Feb and March...

Jan and Feb seem ok, but it would seem a little early to charge you for March. Also note that you are charged the full whack for the family pack for March.

Edit: Strike that, you get discounted Family pack for March as well (half price FP discount)

Re: £105?!? !?!?!

Looks to me that your rental is paid quarterly in advance

quadplay 15-02-2006 12:47

Re: £105?!? !?!?!

ntl don't do quarterly billing.

Also, it appears the 3 for £30 credit has not been applied correctly. Did you have the TV & Broadband installed on January 11th?

Digital 15-02-2006 12:53

Re: £105?!? !?!?!

yes quadplay

---------- Post added at 11:53 ---------- Previous post was at 11:50 ----------

And so when will I get the next bill, and how much will it be?

Stephen 15-02-2006 12:53

Re: £105?!? !?!?!

Your charges 11-31 Jan are the partical month charges I mentioned and then the 1-28 feb sould be your normal month in advance.

I do not understand why you have march on the bill as well.

Digital 15-02-2006 13:00

Re: £105?!? !?!?!

I don't understand aswell, sorry - made some changed to Feb and March for Unlimited 1Mb, its 17.99 not 12.19.

So when should I get the next bill, and how much will it be?

Paul 15-02-2006 13:02

Re: £105?!? !?!?!

Well according to that, you next bill should be for April, and will probably arrive in late March.

Digital 15-02-2006 13:07

Re: £105?!? !?!?!

And that should be the normal fee of £39 right? Or is it going to be about £48, because of the discounted FP.

Paul 15-02-2006 13:12

Re: £105?!? !?!?!

I couldn't say - I'm not familiar with the details of the offer.

Digital 15-02-2006 18:12

Re: £105?!? !?!?!

Ok, thanks for you help and time everyone, it is abit weird for them to bill for me March, I hope they don't take an advance payment in my next bill too.

Marge 15-02-2006 18:52

Re: £105?!? !?!?!

Looking at your bill you shouldn't be paying the line rental charge so that needs to be removed and backdated to when you had the tv installed ;)

etccarmageddon 15-02-2006 19:08

Re: £105?!? !?!?!

that is the most confusing bill I've ever seen!

But that still doesn't explain a) Why the bill for March already and b) why the 50% Family Pack Discount over the three months, when the OP claims to have Family pack free for a month. Either the offer implies a subscription to Family Pack, with the first month free, or Family Pack free for a month with the option to then subscribe. The OP has stated they do not require the Family Pack, as they have Sky. (Which begs the question - why have NTL DTV at all?)

Chrysalis 15-02-2006 21:36

Re: £105?!? !?!?!

It appears you may be billed on a quarterly basis but that is the first time I have heard of quarterly billing on ntl.
