In future, I'll make it clear to any seller that I will not provide feedback until feedback is received. The problem is worst with sellers who tend to have large, active accounts. I'm sure they appreciate their high, positive rating - just wish they'd realise we all do. ---------- Post added at 08:48 ---------- Previous post was at 08:47 ---------- Quote:

Re: Ebay and feedback
I agree too. People who dont leave feedback should be forced to leave it before they can continue Ebaying. It helps everyone in the long run and only takes a few minutes to complete.
|
Re: Ebay and feedback
my only gripe with feedback is that sellers wait until you have feedbacked them before they feedback you.
whereas, the buyer pays so the seller should feedback if it was an easy transaction, whereas buyers can complain if there is something bad in the sale, e.g. very long delivery times/not what was on sale/misrepresentation of item/ hard to deal with/not copmpleting what was on sale. so this protects sellers more than buyers I think it is a sellers market ebay not a buyers market. ik |
Re: Ebay and feedback
I always check the person - if they receive loads of feedback and hardly leave any for anyone then I dont leave them feedback until I get mine.

Maybe ebay needs to look into this a bit. |

Re: Ebay and feedback
some of these large volume sellers leave feedback through an automated system which leaves theirs after you feedback to them - obviously it will detect if positive - so a way round getting a neg feedback from a seller as revenge for negging them would be to leave positive - but put in the text that the transaction was crap with caps lock on!
---------- Post added at 17:23 ---------- Previous post was at 17:22 ---------- a seller should feedback as soon as they get your money safely - ie when their part of the transaction is complete. |
Re: Ebay and feedback
I agree 100% with all that has been said in this thread.
I have recently sold 6 items on ebay and, in each case, was paid virtually straight away by paypal. In these circumstances, I considered that the buyers had done all I, as a seller, could expect and left immediate feedback for them. However as a buyer on 19th January I made immediate settlement and am still waiting for feedback, in spite of having left positive feedback for the seller within hours of receiving the goods. I have also made 2 polite requests to this seller asking for feedback but to no avail. The feedback system is definitely in need of revision and I shall also be airing my views via the community values. |

Re: Ebay and feedback
If you want to -ve feedback you do it on day 30 just before the feedback time limit expires.
|
Re: Ebay and feedback
I agree, the sellers seem to be the main problem, when I pay quickly I expect to get feedback before the goods even arrive. If sellers are doing their bit and selling good products what have they to fear?
I'll try that link to community values. |
Re: Ebay and feedback
Whilst I appreciate the concept of feedback, and it's nice to get it, is there actually any obligation to give it?
I have one instance when I bought something where I made a concious decision not to give feedback. In that instance the seller sent me the wrong item, it was rectified, but it was still unneeded aggravation. I suppose I could have left a neutral comment, but I chose not to. That is my prerogative. |
Re: Ebay and feedback
it's a chicken/egg issue. you want to leave some for someone but dont want to in case they're too ignorant to leave you some (provided the transaction went well).
|
Re: Ebay and feedback
Don't agree about chicken/egg issue. Payment comes before goods are sent in every case, so buyers expect to get feedback on payment.

So, by that, a seller should wait until the buyer has received the goods and is happy with them - which generally means waiting for feedback from the buyer. :erm: |

Personally I give seller feedback at the same time I ship the goods. It is easier that way, you don't need to go into ebay to just leave feedback. On this subject what is ebay protocol for cheques. I wait 7 business days from depositing a cheque before I will send goods. I get moaned at by buyers for this despite saying goods will be send when funds are cleared. |

Re: Ebay and feedback
The most expensive item I sold I had no feedback for and this got me concerned because once positive feedback is left by the buyer its some sort of proof the item arrived intact, I was worried a chargeback would be issued. So it is annoying although it wont affect the % rating.

Re: Ebay and feedback
I have to say, i disagree with some on this thread.
As an eBay seller, i leave feedback once it is left for me by the buyer. This way i know the item has been received okay, and that the transaction is now complete. It's a very common situation, where the seller will leave feedback as soon as payment is received, meaning the buyer is 'safe' to do what they want. I.e file for a chargeback, leave a neg, send abusive mails etc.. in the knowledge that their feedback will not be jeopardised. As an eBay buyer, i always leave feedback on receiving and inspection of the item. This way the seller knows i have received it, and that the transaction is complete. Also, of course, there is no obligation to leave feedback, though i do agree that it is very much a big part of the eBay system, i always leave feedback. Though there was one occasion where i didn't. The item i received took a little longer than i expected, so i chose not to leave feedback, as i didn't mind enough to leave a neut or a neg, but also didn't feel like giving a positive. Now, that person hassled me for feedback. If anyone ever did it again i would just leave them a juicy neg with the comment "Here is the feedback you so desperately wanted". Harsh i know, but some people go way OTT when demanding feedback and sending FeedBack Reminders every day. When buying on selling on eBay you need to accept that not everyone will leave you feedback. My feedback should be up to around 130 by now, but it's only 115 because some people don't play the game:D |

Note, I don't usually wait for the seller to provide feedback first. I realise that as long as they've got their money, then effectively the transaction is complete - barring any chargeback/complaint/feedback issues. So it seems reasonable to me to provide feedback first. It just narks me when I don't get any back. Particularly if I've gently reminded them. That's just plain rude and selfish. The seller with whom I had the last transaction seems to basically have given up on giving feedback to buyers from last Dec, despite continuing to receive feedback themselves. We're talking dozens of people who've had no feedback from this seller. That is just wrong. That's not an odd one not giving feedback. |
Re: Ebay and feedback
I've purchased something a couple of weeks back which I immediately got feedback from the seller. It arrived in a cardboard box with no packing so was either damaged during transit and/or before packing. The seller maintained that transit caused it and initially offered I return it, but as it would have put me out of pocket I insisted they arrange collection.
(This saga is all recorded in another thread) The upshot is, on Tuesday after waiting a week for progress I commenced a 'complaint' with paypal using the resolution process and the seller refunded me in full within a few hours and with appologies. So I am in this position where I can do what I like feedback wise and not affect my feedback - if I dont assist the seller in them getting their product back or whatever they can not punish me with feedback. As I spent time pushing for a refund and stress worrying that my £100 had been swindled out of me I could now express myself freely on their feedback at no cost to myself. Worth bearing in mind, if you're a seller! |

Just seems to be good manners to me, I know that there are both buyers and sellers who just wait for the other to act first, but would sellers ship goods before receiving payment? - of course not, so why do so many object to leaving feed back upon receiving payment? The argument about buyers being free to leave negative feedback can be applied to sellers once a buyer has left positive feedback. There just doesn't seem to be any mutual trust. Pity. |

I believe eBay could possibly agree with the buyer leaving it first, seeing as their automated 'Dispatch Notification' email in Selling Manager says this: Quote:

Re: Ebay and feedback
yeah buyer should leave feedback first, I have no problem with that system. I think it is far riskier for the seller then the buyer since chargeback's can be issued.

Re: Ebay and feedback
I got this thick woman who doesn't know how to give me feedback LOL, stupid bint keeping sending a message to me instead of using her feedback page!!

Re: Ebay and feedback
Although not feedback these responses from a winning bidder who changed his mind might be of interest : -
1) hi this was a mistake basicly my friend has gone and purchased this which i did not want he was f*****g around if you could please take no notice of this and resell the item sorry for any problems caused 2) I DONT GIVE A S**T IM NOT PAYING FOR IT 3) yeh first of all i didnt bid for it, it was my mate and yeh i no i should hav signed off but i forgot so what you gonna do dont giv me no bull**** boy and who the f**k you calling rude you think i give a s**t if i get a black mark on my name This resulted from a sale being made by the local branch of a major charity and eventually led to abusive and vulgar feedback being left by the buyer which, in the circumstances, it is hoped ebay will agree to remove. |
Re: Ebay and feedback
you should report these messages to ebay as they break ebay rules. abusive language is not allowed.

Re: Ebay and feedback
Sounds like one hell of a reputation system.
I also get a bit miffed at the nagging over at Amazon about leaving a comment and a grading for market place sellers.I'll only comment on those that get their finger out and send me the stuff pronto-not leaving me hanging for the product especially when they tell me that they have sent it when obviously they haven't because I'm still waiting 2 or three weeks later. |
