Battlestar Galactica - Series 2 (Sky One)

Just a heads up and a start of a thread for the discussion of series 2 on Sky One for the Time Magazine show of the year for 2005.

Starts on the 10th of January and from what i hear from the peeps who cant wait and have downloaded it from the net is that its even better than the first series. How is that possible - i cant wait to find out?

What will happen to boomer - will Adama survive - will Incog ever watch this show ;) .... Find out soon...

Oh and if anyone posts any hint of a spoiler for any episode that HASNT BEEN ON SKY ONE i will hunt you down and personally seek my revenge. DO NOT POST SPOILERS.

In all serioussness when the ep has been aired I'll say then what I thought would happen compared to what did happen.

I'd say what i THOUGHT was going to happen now - but most of it did so it's probably best not to :)

So I'll speak to you in here in a couple of weeks.

Would a spoiler actually stop anyone bothering to watch the show?
It wouldn't stop me.
am I alone in thinking when someone tells me details about a film, even twists etc "wow, wanna see that happen" rather than "oh no, now I know that Bruce Willis is actually dead, I won't bother watching 6th sense"

No it wouldnt stop me watching it - but it would spoil it for me, after all at the end of the first series when
Spoiler:
Adama go shot
i wouldnt have nearly jumped off my chair in fright as the bullets rang out from nowhere, i would have been expecting it.

So in that respect i would'nt have enjoyed the "experience" as much as i would normally do, its a bit like getting a book and starting at the back.

I would ask why you would want to spoil the suprise anyway - there are plenty more threads available on this or on other forums where you discuss season 2 up until the currently released episode anyway. To give it away here is just spoiling the fun for others and i would see it as quite vindictive to be honest. (Not implying you are Xaccers or are intending too)

I remember getting Dan Brown's deception point recently and being really annoyed because there is a huge giveaway regarding the plot on the back cover. Ticked me right off that did, even though its a good book and i read it anyway.

Besides - enough of this - back to the subject of the thread please - if you want a thread with spoilers start one.

Xaccers 28-12-2005 14:16

Re: Battlestar Galactica - Series 2 (Sky One, No Spoilers)

No I wouldn't, its just that some people get so narked off when details of an episode which has been out on general release but they haven't seen it, are talked about.

The problem with spoiler tags is when people who want to discuss spoilers take over a thread that was not intended for spoiler discussion. Then you just get post after post with nothing but spoiler boxes. And if you want to quote someone whose post is only partly a spoiler, you find the text of their spoiler is not blanked out when you get to the 'compose' screen.

The 'Lost' thread is a good example of excessive use of spoiler tags.

I think it's best to keep all spoilers, tagged or not, out of this thread, especially if that's what BR wants (and I agree with him). If peeps want to discuss spoilers, then why not create a new thread with a 'no spoiler tags' warning in its title. :)

Re: Battlestar Galactica - Series 2 (Sky One, No Spoilers)

Two threads for one programme is not a very sensible idea IMO - people will simply get confused and end up wondering which thread to use depending on what they want to post. Trying to keep up with two threads on the same subject makes no sense at all - esp as they will have different information in them.

Excessive use of spoilers is to be avoided, but the occasional spoiler snippet does not harm anyone.

Watched the Final Season 2 episode over the weekend - fantastic. Overall there have only been a couple of duff episodes, a good season all round and looking forward to Season 3.

Spoiler:
In the final episode (which is an hour and a half) a 7th Cylon Model is revealed - and they jump forward a year for the final 25 minutes.

I've only watched what has been broadcast, but I'm loving every minute of it. Introducing the Battlestar Pegasus this week was brilliant, and a nice tip of the hat at the original series.

Somewhat spoiled by the fact that she, along with most of her crew, is a dangerously unhinged psychopath. :erm:

It's interesting to see how this crew has been differently affected by the Cylon genocide compared to Galactica and the refugees. They have become dehumanised rapists and killers, thanks to months of believing that they are the last of the human race and in imminent danger of extinction - all niceties and taboos therefore discarded.

It's not just E4 - Channel 4 have started doing that with ER. Bloody annoying...but in the States, I gather it's standard practice. I wouldn't be surprised if Sky and ITV start doing it too...if they haven't already. Not having a TV myself, I wouldn't know :p: - the few things I watch are recorded for me by my parents, and I either watch 'em when I visit at weekends, or borrow the DVD and watch 'em at home. Sorted. Who needs a TV? :D

Re: Battlestar Galactica - Series 2 (Sky One)

Just resurecting this thread now that nobody can spoil it - with details of upcoming episodes or crap jokes - but what did everyone think then?

Personally a really good series, with its high point being the 3 episode run with return of the Pegasus and the strike on the ship where the cylons get rejuvinated.

But perhaps thats because i think Michelle Forbes who played the total hardass Admiral Cain (or Ensign Ro from ST:TNG) is a total hunnie! I've been slobbering over her for years....

Anyhoo enough slobbering - whats going to happen now in series three then?

Do you think this fleet which invaded New Caprica is in fact the Friendly Cylons that "Al" talked about (Quantum Leap fans know who i mean). Or is there some other shenannigans at work?

Cant wait already!

I think the best the New Capricans can hope for is that these are an enlightened group of Cylons led by the 'heroes' who wish to rule and educate them rather than destroy them. Muchos opportunity for resistance cell plotlines etc.

I did like this series. And thanks for telling me where I'd seen Admiral Cain before!

Re: Battlestar Galactica - Series 2 (Sky One)

A fantastic series,

But how are they going to get everybody back into space whilst surrounded by Cylons?

I mean they have to get back on the road to Earth because that is the premise of the whole show.

It will be very interesting but I will place a wager with you now.

Whatever happens I bet it involves the destruction of the Pegasus. Afterall the show is called Battlestar Galactica.

TheBlueRaja 19-05-2006 14:41

Re: Battlestar Galactica - Series 2 (Sky One)

Yeah, but i think the Pegasus was also in the original series as well. Now as to what happened to it in that show i have no idea (and dont really want to either), but it would be a shame i think.

Either way - there is also practically nobody on board any of the ships, they said most of the pilots and crews etc were down on the ground.

I cant see any way out of this unless they were frendlies (and if they werent why didnt they just nuke them and lauch fighters at the fleet as soon as they arrived?) but then thats what makes it a cliffhanger i suppose. :D

In TOS the Pegasus was in it for two episodes, (made into a film also called Battlestar Galactica - The Cylon Attack) They had a dual attack on a Cylon base somehow they became separated the Galactica then buggered off and most of the Pegasus Viper pilots went with the Galactica.

The Pegasus went off in the other direction, but was not destroyed.

Then in a later episode, Patrick McNee (The voice of the imperious leader) was in it as the Devil/satan whatever. Count Iblis I think his name was.

It was revealed in that that he had led the pegasus to it's destruction.

Hmmm - Ok, well - its survived a little more than a couple of episodes already so thats a good sign, but you could be right, I hope its not though.

I saw an interview recently by the guy who plays Gius Baltar and he was saying (although admittedly he is going to bum it up as much as possible) that the first few episodes of the next series are pretty dark and pretty grim.

I wonder if that means that you see more of Adama with that tash! :D

Some of the best episodes are the ones like the 36 mins one where they are just on the edge of falling apart - where it looks like thats it - were done and so close to the edge. Hopefully this will turn out to be more of the same.

Seriously mate - please drop it - you managed to single handedly ruin this thread and also any chat during the entire series by posting in here when you have no intention of discussing the show.

If your going to be serious then fine, but if your just going to come in here and go on the wind up then please leave as your spoiling it for others.

The first thread on Season one had about 10 pages to it, this one has three most of which is you on the wind up.

Watched the pilot & the 1st ep of season one (the "33 minute" episode).

Great stuff! :D :tu:

Loving it so far.

OK, so Starbuck & Boomer are women, & Adama's played by the origami guy from Blade Runner instead of the old guy from Bonanza, but who cares. It's great.

Great cast, great FX, no camp cheesiness. Good stuff.

I know he's dead, just pointing out a difference.

I've heard lots of people criticising it just 'cos it doesn't have the same cast, & has changed the sex of some characters etc., yet from what I've seen so far it could easily be far superior to the original.

You pointed it out ;)

To me, that is an unavoidable difference, so unfair to criticise it for it. To be honest, it would be unfair to criticise it because it hasn't got the same cast (actors/actresses not gender), as it is nearly a 1/4 of a century later...
