Can only connect at 3Mbps

Despite customer services and tech support telling me my connection to the modem is 10Mbps, I can still only achieve 3 Mbps.

My modem [home;200] is connected directly to computer and has been rebooted/powered off numerous times, along with the PC, alas to no avail.

Anyone know what I can do to remedy this situation?

Re: Can only connect at 3Mbps

log into the modem and see what config file you have

Re: Can only connect at 3Mbps

how are you testing the speed?

festoid 14-12-2005 16:09

http://www.testmy.net/

Your connection is:2801 Kbps (about 2.8 Mbps)
You downloaded at:342 kB/s
Your TRuSPEED: ^info^2997 Kbps :: 366 kB/s (7% overhead factored)</B>
Bottom Line:You are running: 50 times faster than 56K and can download 1 megabyte in 2.99 second(s)
Diagnosis:Looks Great : 12.72 % faster than the average for host (ntl.com)</B>

Use the "New Speed Test" found under the Quick Links menu at the top of the forum.

1st 512K took 610 ms = 839.3 KB/sec, approx 6916 Kbps, 6.75 Mbps
2nd 512K took 578 ms = 885.8 KB/sec, approx 7299 Kbps, 7.13 Mbps
3rd 512K took 515 ms = 994.2 KB/sec, approx 8192 Kbps, 8 Mbps
4th 512K took 641 ms = 798.8 KB/sec, approx 6582 Kbps, 6.43 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 7247 Kbps, 7.08 Mbps

Yippee, sorted, I presume these figures are OK for peak time and going through a router.

Thanks again guys:) :) :)

cj, your modem config is showing a 3meg configuration, tell em this and they should be able to sort it.

Re: Can only connect at 3Mbps

this hasn't exactly been NTL's best rollout... so far... heheheehehehe.. if they don't behave, I'll wait until January and downgrade to unlimited 2mb lol!
heck, I checked how much I actually do on the net in a month and we barely touch 10Gb...
75gig cap? I can live with that :D :D :D

Much better figures obtained during the quiet hours.

Re: Can only connect at 3Mbps

Mine's the same. 3 meg if I'm lucky, a slow as 1.5 meg if I'm not. I "upgraded" from the 2Mb online, and have been told by the Injuns that its because the network is being upgraded to do 10Mb and that hardly anyone is getting it.. apart from the 15 people I work with who do, I guess!!

I don't mind wating for the upgrades to occur (if that is what needs to happen), but on the days I only get 1.5 Mb I really do begrudge paying 50% more for 25% less, if ya follow my drift
