Firefox 1.5 Release Candidate 1 is out. Just dled it.

Re: Firefox 1.5 Release Candidate 1
I'm using 1.5 beta 2 and with the check updates, you can download and install the release candidate via that.
Has anyone used it? If so does it work? |
Re: Firefox 1.5 Release Candidate 1
I am on 1.0.7 and when I do the update it does not find any new versions, I know that if I go to the site I can click the link, but I think I will wait a wee bit longer

They tried something like it before, but it didn't work, so they stopped it. |

The partial update found a problem when installing, so it had to download the full update. :( It still works fine though. |
Re: Firefox 1.5 Release Candidate 1
When was your last vanilla install? have you gone through a few versions on your current one?

Re: FireFox 1.5 Release Candidate 1
Installed it :)
Lasted all of 30 seconds on my machine :( Uninstalled it. Why you might ask. The Google toolbar does not work with it. So will roll back to the previous version |
Re: Firefox 1.5 Release Candidate 1
I will wait for the full proper version. This is still a test one. ;) I'm using 1.0.7 :)

Hi, Just downloaded 1.5 RC - and installed the extension 'Nightly Tester Tools'. Google Toolbar is back! - and more important - it works! Thanks! BTW - FF 1.5 RC is fast! |
Re: Firefox 1.5 Release Candidate 1
1.5 RC is no faster than 1.5 b2.
|
Re: Firefox 1.5 Release Candidate 1
I have the same impression - 1.5 RC _does_ seem faster than 1.5 b2.

It won't, ik. 1.07 is a public release version, and hence will only look for other public release versions to update. When 1.5 <nothing> comes out, it should find it. |

Re: Firefox 1.5 Release Candidate 1
Firefox 1.5 RC2 is just out. Apparently, the two release candidates (not the betas) are based on a new Gecko version, so may well be faster. They certainly seem that way.
Update was automatic (popup - click a button, click a button to restart and that's it) and only took seconds - of course, there probably wasn't much change. |

Psychologically, one thinks new browser, loading faster, when in practice there's little difference, and the speed of the internet connection, packet speed through the various routers, and available bandwidth are logically more likely to affect the speed of webpage loading than a slightly different version of FX. IE vs FX, no contest. Fx 1.0.7 vs Fx 1.5 RC2, I'd say little, if any, in it. |
