Outlook Express - adding another ntl email?
Hello,
I currently have my own ntl email address. I would like to set up an ntl email address for my mum and believe when you sign up with ntl you can have something like 5 email accounts. I have no idea how to do this, I'd appreciate any help. Thanks |
Re: Outlook Express - adding another ntl email?
easy , go to www.ntlworld.com and look for e-mail options :)
edit :- its under the help and support tab :) |

Re: Outlook Express - adding another ntl email?
Once you have setup the new additional email account on the ntl website, you can then use the add account wizards in Outlook Express, to set that up to receive the emails whenever you let OE connect.

Re: Outlook Express - adding another ntl email?
OMG what have I done. I set up the new email through the ntl link. Then I added the new email in Outlook Express. Now for some reason when I try to log on to my identity it has the other person's name at the top, all my messages have gone but my contacts are there, does anyone know what I have done and if I can get my emails back?

False alarm, it's back now. I think the program must have locked up.

Re: Outlook Express - adding another ntl email?
M$ do release a few "non critical" patches for Outlook Express, which don't get automatic updates from Windows Update.
Run Windows update, use the custom rather than express option, then look at the software, optional lists as well as the high priority lists. |
Re: Outlook Express - adding another ntl email?
I've tested the new account and It can receive mail but when I try to send I am getting an error message
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.ntlworld.com', Server: 'localhost', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E Do you think I may have some of the settings wrong. |
Re: Outlook Express - adding another ntl email?
Yep. Check the settings for the account. the smtp server should be smtp.ntlworld.com

so was it a typo then ???? :) |
Re: Outlook Express - adding another ntl email?
The outgoing mail server was set to 'localhost', so probably an over enthusiastic Mcafee rather than a typo.
|
Re: Outlook Express - adding another ntl email?
I'm confused, how did you know it said localhost instead of smtp
|
Re: Outlook Express - adding another ntl email?

outgoing mail through smtp.ntlworld.com servers |
Re: Outlook Express - adding another ntl email?
Should mine be set to smtp instead of localhost? You see before I set up my mum's account I checked mine for the settings so that's why I'd put in localhost because that's what it says on mine.
|
Re: Outlook Express - adding another ntl email?
localhost directs it toward the virus scanner that then directs it to smtp, if you don't have macafee or whatever and you put local host it does not know where to go.
put the pop and smpt addresses in and you should be fine. |
