Teenager guilty of murder

I hope he gets locked away for a long, long time. IMO it cannot be long enough.

He's a murderer, but still can't be named for legal reasons :grind:

Yes, that point confused me too. "For legal reasons"? Maybe there is more to come; after all, one often reads about cases being reported long after the event, where the defendant was also being tried for other crimes in the interim.

I just can't get over this whole thing though. He is 16 years old; he bullies someone (with a friend - brave lad  ) for a computer game and £20; then he not only threatens to kill the boy's dad, but he actually does it!

When I was 16, if I wanted anything I worked for it... but I guess some of these kids don't consider that to be an option.

The 35-year-old victim, who cannot be named, was stabbed through the heart after confronting two teenagers in Brixton, south London, last year.
That has confused me even more.

In fact the article concludes with...

Quote:

None of the parties in the case can be named for legal reasons.
What the heck is going on here?

You can't name names if its an ongoing investigation? Isnt this always the case??

But why is the victims name being withheld?and the case is over but the youngster can't be named because of his age I presume.

Nah

1) To easy they don't suffer

2) Just for the fluke of a police cockup no comeback

3) Society now I doubt could handle it

4) I could think of worse punishments....

The original victim of the bullying is still alive and is under 18. He is therefore protected by law from being named. To name the father, who was killed, would allow the son to be identified pretty easily by anyone who knows them, hence the murder victim can't be named either.

The scrote that did this is protected due to his age; it is his right to expect this while he is on trial, but the judge has discretion over whether the ban on naming him can be lifted after conviction. IIRC, Judges, if they are going to lift that ban, tend to do so at sentencing rather than on conviction, so that the naming effectively becomes a part of the sentence. We may yet find out who he is.

On the other hand, it's possible the murderer is also connected to his victims in some way, in which case we will never know!

I know I shouldn't laugh but it's all very british.

There was a murder, who, what, where and why we're not told.

Its none of our business, all it does is it make the system more transparent. Why would we want to know their names though

Why do we want to read about Ian Huntly or any other murder? It's the human condition I guess.

I suspect it makes people feel better about themselves, to be able to scorn someone who has done something worse than they have.
