Re: Access Denied

Are his shares set up properly? He could try runing the sharing wizard to see if that sorts it out. Also check that all networking settings are working properly. What operating systems are being used?

firewall - i had this problem, did my head in for ages, then turned off the windows firewall - i think an upgrade to sp2 turns it on by default?

Each computer has got to have the same username's setup so that it can let you access it from which username your on if you get what I mean.

I had a similar issue to this once and it ended up with a new installation to allow the files to be accessed. Tried all the instructions from the MS website, newsgroups and google searches.

Re: Access Denied

It could be many different things. If you have been using any third party firewalls it is possible it may have screwed up access to your machine even if the firewall has now been completeley removed.
I also once had an error like this and after paying closer attention to what the full error said on the guest machine I realised a reinstall of the OS was the only way forward. This particular error was claiming that my server didnt have enough resources free for remote sharing, this was the same even after a cold boot with nothing loaded up in the foreground and nothing but windows own background services and only third party programs that where essential for network access.
I still to this day dont know what caused th error as my machine has plenty of resources for sharing, my old p200 with 32mb of ram could do it fine so why couldnt an athlon xp 1800 with 512mb ddr do it :D

But then neither machine would be able to see each other and he has allready said that machine #1 can see machine #2 but machine #2 cant see machine #1.

Re: Access Denied

can you ping the machine using the computer name and/or the IP for the computer?

Re: Access Denied

How are you trying to access the share from your bro's machine? Are you just manually typing \\machine_name\share in the address bar of Explorer? If so, what happens if you temporarily map a network drive and specify the username and password (using the credentials from your machine and not one of his accounts) - do you still get the same problem?

:dunce: Just re-read your post and saw I got it round the wrong way. Instead of doing that on his machine, do it on yours and enter the username and password for an account on his machine when you're mapping the drive (under the 'Connect using a different username' option).
