Silent Mouse
Is it possible to buy a mouse which does not go click click click when ever someone presses a button.
It is just a pet hate of mine trying to concentrate and only hearing the click click click click click of someone using a mouse.. |
Re: Silent Mouse

Re: Silent Mouse
Mine never makes a noise, there's a set up for silent keys and mouse in properties.

true but a mouse would be best bet, as I wish it to be something she is familiar with ( she has trouble using her left hand )

I think he means a stereotype of the average PCworld person is the type of guy who knows jack all about computer, and is just there to rip people off with crap computers.

Re: Silent Mouse
The new apple Mighty Mouse doesn't click - it is pressure sensitive. It is fully XP compatible, but costs a fortune (like everthing else Apple).
It has a left and right mouse button, plus a third button at the bottom. The only trouble with pressure sensitive mice is that they are very easily to click accidently, if your finger accidently lightly brushes the button whilst hovering your finger over it. Pretty easy to do. Try holding your finger above your mouse - it aches very quickly. Its comfy resting your finger lightly on the button. |

It's a matter of "some of the staff are n00b but the vast majority are fine"... |
Re: Silent Mouse
Looks like this topic is off on a tangent again, :rme:
but you can set KB & mouse to not give out a bleep on each keystroke. |

Re: Silent Mouse
What I means is when looking for a quite mouse go in to a PC supplier and try the mice on display.
I only picked PC world beacause they are the only shop in my town that has a selection of mice/keyboards on display. The new Comet store & Currys (Part of Dixons which also owns PC World) don't and buy good online is often a lot cheaper |

Did you realise you can order stuff from PC World online at vastly reduced prices compared to instore and go and collect and pay for it in the store? So it might be worth checking out a few mice at your nearest store, but as far as I'm aware they all have a 'click'. |

Won't a touchpad be all tappy? plus expensive? she would need to be able to use it like a normal mouse for detailed image work, while loosing the sound of the mouse. |
Re: Silent Mouse
If you can't bear the mouse clicks how do you feel about the tap tap of a keyboard? This is what drives my husband crazy. ;)
And then there is the printer, and the pc hum and the scanner.. Damn! my whole desktop is an environmental health hazard...I'd better hope no one reports me to the local environmental health dept. ;) |
Re: Silent Mouse
The gentle hum of a computer I do not mind, keyboards can be annoying but not as much as the mouse.

Well as my mouse is very quiet I can only think your partner has a particularly noisy mouse or she is trying to annoy you. ;) Oh and I have to use my PC either with headphones or turn the sound down as my husband can't stand the varios pings and fanfares that various applications use to alert me. He is such a misery..good job I love him. ;) |
Re: Silent Mouse
It is a Packard Bell one with those silly interchangable backs.

The physical click that I think they're talking about is that of the micro switch under left / right buttons, if you don't have that then what mouse have you got ??? |

A cordless optical from Tevion, no sound from it atal/ |
Re: Silent Mouse
The point of using a microswitch in mouse buttons is to give a positive feel aswell as a very slight noise that you will hear, to really have that noise become annoying the user would have to be clicking like crazy.
<offtopic> Nought wrong with PCworld, bet it has far more n00b customers than staff, I highly doubt any computer shop and all their staff knows absolutely everything about every product they sell, if they did then the products would be likly out of date by the time they have learnt everything about each item. its up to the customer as much as any one else to research any product they feel like purchasing, many more local and online stores have this in their terms including scan.co.uk</offtopic> |
Re: Silent Mouse
In reply to Nitronutter, my gf does alot of work in photoshop and fireworks this can be very intense click click click click, as she works pixel by pixel sometimes in her work.
That is why it can get so unbelievably annoying. |
Re: Silent Mouse
I brought my laptop in PC World. For the spec it was far cheaper there than anywhere else. (But in that case they were having a bank holiday sale, and there was £250 off it.)
|
Re: Silent Mouse
Ok well in that case i would be considering putting her work computer out of earshot, if she is dealing in such precision in her artwork then it could take a very long time for anyone to get used to a silent mouse that doesnt use microswitches and thereby losing that positive feel for each click. Would be kind of like driving a car with four wheels and then jumping into and driving a hover car that has no wheels, you instanly lose the positive feel of the road contact with the wheels via the steering wheel.
