Re: Ntl not working
Hi :welcome: to the forum
sorry to start with questions, kayge, but what kind of modem do you use & have you tried disabling yahoo messenger and msn to see if internet explorer works without them ? |
Re: Ntl not working
Hello
I am using a cable modem and yes i have tried that but it makes no difference. |
Re: Ntl not working
kayge, :welcome: to CableForum.
Do you have a firewall running? If so, which one? |
Re: Ntl not working
Take a look at the connection settings for IE, as if they are wrong, both IE and MSN won't work.
Make sure that they are set to connect to LAN and not via dialup or anything else. |
Re: Ntl not working
Yes i do and its the windows one but i dont see how it could all of a sudden effect it? i have checked it many times and done virus and spyware scans and got nothing out of it

Re: Ntl not working
If the box on the connections is empty, that's fine.
Check the lan settings ... press the button, and check if anything on the next page is checked. They should all be unticked. |
Re: Ntl not working
There should be no connections shown - that bit is for dial-up. Under LAN settings (on the same tab), make sure 'Use proxy server' is NOT checked.

Re: Ntl not working
Okay nothings ticked and its still the same
|
Re: Ntl not working
ok, so if the settings are fine, turn off your firewall, and try again, remembering to turn it back on again.

Re: Ntl not working
Turning off firewall makes no difference

Re: Ntl not working
PM someone the link, see if they get any joy. ;)
[edit] teach me jumping half cocked, thought it was just one site you could not get in. |
Re: Ntl not working
can you try and ping some websites????
go to START then RUN type in CMD and press enter. now you got a dos prompt open so can you type ping 66.102.9.99 (google) see if you get time-outs or Destination host unreachable. |
Re: Ntl not working
It worked so whats the problem with my IE
|
Re: Ntl not working
On the connections tab (again) run setup, choose 'connect to the internet', then choose setup connection manually, then choose always on connection, then click finish. Then close and reopen IE and type a web address in like www.bbc.co.uk

Re: Ntl not working
it made no difference

Re: Ntl not working
Just a shot in the dark, but you might try this:
go start, control panel, double click on network connections, Under LAN or High Speed Internet it should say "Local area Connection", right mouse click once on this, go down to status, support tab, click on repair. See if this makes any difference? |
Re: Ntl not working
Try browsing to a webpage by ip address
In the address box type 212.58.224.84 Wait a min how are you posting on here right now??? |
Re: Ntl not working
Are you using Internet explorer (big blue 'e') or MSN explorer (a buttterfly I think)? if you are using msn explorer try the big blue 'e'. (Or throw your PC out of the window, sometimes helps.);)
