Belkin router

I have looked at all my router papers, it just a belkin 4 port cable/dsl router 10/100.

It doesn't say anything about speeds, etc. I currently use it for my PC & Xbox.

Will it work the same with the 10MB BB from NTL?

Could I easily change to a wireless router? What belkin one can I buy and what else do I need to use my Xbox in a different room to the PC and router?

Cheers

Re: Belkin router

You can always get a Wireless Access Point but that doesn't appear to be wireless. If you want, you can get a router but it needs to be called a "Wireless DSL/Cable Gateway Router" ie, one that does NOT have a modem.

If you go wireless don't forget to secure!

Hornet,

if you can give me the details of your router (F5D52** number) then I can check to see what the max speed is of it.

Yes, it will work fine with 10Mb BB.

Yes, you could easily change to a wireless router. If you get one that has 4 wired ethernet ports like the F5D7230uk4 http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...%2Etworking%2F then you can simply drop it in as a replacement for you current router and attach your PC and Xbox using your current wiring. You can then add wireless PCs or consoles (Xbox360) at a later point.

[QUOTE=bob_builder]Yes, it will work fine with 10Mb BB.

errr Bob, this is what we have done in the office:

Router Push (Mbps) Pull (Mbps)

6230 4.27 4

5230 4.54 4.43

6231v1 5.89 6.48

5231v1 6.67 7.35

7230v2 23.93 18.99

7231p 29.37 23.52

7235 31.05 28.1

8230 57.27 55.23

5231v3 71.47 63.08

those are the speeds of all our routers. and this is INTERNAL info really (sorry for the messy look but couldnt paste an XLS sheet in

So are you saying that my F5D5230u4 would not be able to handle 10Mb BB even though it has 10/100 ethernet ports?

DocDutch 25-08-2005 08:37

Re: Belkin router

Bob,

those speeds are MBPS and what NTL is offering is 10mb so that would work out to about 1200kbps so thats 1.2 mbps. so yes you would be able to use this router with the new speeds coming soon

I have this router, you should get the Belkin Wireless Access Point which plugs into a spare socket.

Me too!

But why is it that the Belkin WAP costs the same as the Belkin Wireless Router (which includes another 4 wired ports so you could replace the router at the same time for the same cost)?

I would get the F5D7230 and use it as an AP...trust me works excellent :) set them up all the time for peeps and never had problems...just 1 thing always change the channel from 11 to something else ;)

Is there any reason for this? Interference?

Would there be any interference problems with my DECT telephone?

DocDutch 26-08-2005 17:05

Re: Belkin router

DECT phones screw up wireless connections anytime.

Levig

David ewles what do I need to buy....excat name and cost and how do I set it up....sorry I haven't a clue. Will this mean I can move xbox from room PC is in, without wires from router?

Cheers for help

Re: Belkin router

Hornet if you want to get your pc wireless I should do that instead of your Xbox.

the product you want to buy is a F5D7230uk4
(http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=45621)

you can use this as an Access Point or just have it replace your current router which is probably better anyway

Re: Belkin router

You can just change the channel they use.

DocDutch 27-08-2005 12:24

Re: Belkin router

Bob, you can use Wi-Fi mate...just make sure that the router is at least 2 meters away from the Dect...then it'll go okay and yeah change the default channel :) you'll be sorted then

Cheers! :)

That should be OK, my DECT base is upstairs at least 10m diagonally away from where my current wired router is downstairs.

My cheap Binatone base unit is about 2 foot away from my D-link router and caused me no problems at all.
