Dont worry about it, the server is just getting some more RAM fitted to bring it upto 640K, but its been hard fitting the chips into the Amstrad Mobo as the dual floppy drives need removing first.
Hence its down fo a while...lol

Went down around 22:53 from what I can make out. I have a "who's on line" window open that updates quite quickly and that is the time it last updated.

Perhaps there were too many complaints, particularly from old hands, and it was getting embarassing for them.

Given that it provides a page with NTL links on it now, it indicates that something is being activly done.

As to whether thats good or bad as such, only time will tell. (but the conspircy theorys are likely to be MUCH more interesting that the Truth...)

Exactly my thoughts.

When you add what has occured and place it in the context of how NTL (as a corporate entity, not as indivdual company reps) has always behaved towards it's customers and add to that what is know of Frank and NTL from his blog.

Like I say my guess is 2+2+2=6 and we will not be seeing the site again.

Sad day :(

I am fully perpared to have 'egg on my face' over this and genuinely hope I do and soon. I just can't help but think what I think.

Hmmmm. Anyone could have knocked up a better knowledge base than the one on Community in the time it has been there and particularly as Ashg said that they had another 400 plus entries ready to be input quite some time ago. If that page was knocked up in the same timescale it wouldn't appear for a few days yet. :)

Just wondering if NTL have managed to get the community forums working and have decided to give NTHellWorld.com the chop.

That would be a great shame particularly if NTL decide to exercise censorship on the forums on the community site as forum members often want to discuss unpopular NTL actions.

Frank & the rest of the team do not look after the servers, we look after the site itself, & all the registrations/queries that come into the site.

The site is hosted on an ntl server, in an ntl data center, & there has been a problem with it this morning. The problem has (I believe) been identified, & a fix is being implemented at the moment.

There is nothing to speculate I'm afraid, so I'm sorry to disappoint all the doom mongers & scaremongerers, but that's all there is to it.

The title of the page is 'ntlworld' rather than 'nthellworld' and the ntl image is in the base directory, not the /images directory. However, the original images are still there, so it hasn't been nuked.

The thing that puzzles me (it shouldn't being NTL) is that the site is NTL owned. Ashg and others must know what has happened and they must know who their admins and mods are and how to contact them. It should have been common courtesy to advise the admins / mods of what the situation is. Have they done this? No!
