Pin Error E006 Please Help

Just Tried Booking A Film And Got The Error Message Pin Unititialised Please Call Customer Services.

This Was At 1957. By The Time I'd Got Past All The Recorded Messages It Was 2000 Exactly And I Then Got The Message To Tell Me Customer Services Were Closed.

Please Does Anyone Know Of Any Tricks I Can Perform To Get My Box Working Again.

This Is The First Film I've Booked Since My Box Died Recently And Was Revived By A Complete Remote Restart Which Lost Me All My Favourites So I Had To Enter Them All In Again :(

Anyway Please Help Me

Give Customer Services a call tomorrow and they'll reset your PIN for you.

I'll do that the only problem is I paid for a film on demand yesterday, wasn't able to finish watching it so when I went back to it today I have 3 hours left to watch it and can't get back to it.

Thanks for the reply

Matt

It is a suprise to me that you are helping people here reset the pin's on their stb's!

Don't you realise that the pin is there for a reason?

anyone could sign up here and ask for this info. A child or just someone who wants to order a PPV on their friends or parents STB for example!

I know that the majority of people here are prob genuine but come on. You should be advising them to call CS who can confirm they are the account holder before reseting the pin. :dozey:

The E006 error only appears when the PIN has never been set. You can't reset a forgotten PIN (or one that was never known!) this way.

If you call Customer Services or Faults on 0800 052 2000 (use Option 5 or 3), they can solve this issue remotely. That's much easier than trying to resolve it yourself.

Good job you said the above,i know ntl services can sometimes be a little slow, but i didnt think it would take someone 43 years to try use any of them!(1957-2000)!

Have you called Customer Services? If not, you will need to do so.

yes i have but since i am no longer a subscriber and only watch the free to view channels theyve told me that it is not their responsiblity anymore :(

Stuart 22-06-2006 11:51

Re: Pin Error E006 Please Help

In that case, I am confused. AFAIK, the PIN error only occures if you are trying to watch Pay Per View events.

You may be better off buying a freeview box.

hu5sain 22-06-2006 11:57

Re: Pin Error E006 Please Help

hmm, it occurs on mine when i try to unlock channels that i had previously locked to prevent my children viewing, as well as when i try to change my pin, the message displays "your pin has not been activated" and says E006 at the bottom. Its the same problem that the other guys were having in this topic..

Thanks

Paul K 22-06-2006 12:04

Re: Pin Error E006 Please Help

Possibly but how are NTL going to reset your pin when you no longer subscribe to their service? As far as they are aware you no longer exist on their systems and they can't do anything to your box.

hu5sain 22-06-2006 12:08

yes i understand that, but a few guys on the first page of this topic were told how to reset it themselves, so i want to try if that works out. Still waiting for someone to tell me how to do it :(

As far as I'm aware, you cant reset it yourself from the property. You need to phone up Custoemr Services. If you are not subscribed with NTL you shouldnt be using the box anyway.

ikthius 22-06-2006 17:41

Re: Pin Error E006 Please Help

have you tried Google?

you may find other forums, or pages that may explain, how you can do this, but I don't know any.

and NTL wont help you, because you are not paying for their system, it is like asking for extra warrenty on a car when your old one ran out, you have to pay for the priveledge.

If you arn't paying for em your not going to be able to watch them by clearing the pin, even ntl arn't that stupid and to be perfectly honest I can't think of any channels going out free to air that you would have used the parental controls on anyway. Care to elaborate?

never you mind. Besides i dont think the channels matter here, there wont be a different procedure for different channels. I just need to know how to do it, theres obviously a way, and i aint trying to gain access to channels i dont pay for because that impossible so i aint going to try it!

Paul K 22-06-2006 18:13

Re: Pin Error E006 Please Help

Quadplay works for NTL, he may well have done the reset for them if he was posting from work that night. It could be something that cannot be done by the end user especially if they no longer take NTL services.

But to watch the free to air channels (oh and btw you do know that when you ceased service from ntl you should have returned the set top box don't you?) you don't need the PIN at all- so you don't need to know how to do it.

Discussion of anything illegal (ie theft of service) will not be discussed on Cable Forum, so let's make sure that this discussion doesn't head that way.

problem solved, thanks to someone on here with sense. the reason i havnt returnd the box is because im still technically a customer, as im using their telephone and broadband service and told them i would be resubcribing to them in the near future(in another room) as the living room is now reserved for my new sky hd subscription. They havnt asked for the stb back so i dnt know y ur all complaining about it. I dnt understand y it took nearly 24hours for some1 to give me a proper answer for my query, thanks to the person who actually helped me and every1 who knew but didnt wna give the answer can applaud themselves on thier great achievement.

it took a while because the poeple who know how to do it, probably were not on this forum for a while!!!!

and the people who did know and didn't help, will probably feel they done the right thing, they will applaud themselves.

I just find this post unbelievable, cheeky in fact.

A quick word of advice. If you are sarcastic or show attitude to people, they will be less likely to help.

i am aware of that, i did not show any sort of attitude to anyone before i was helped. I jus posted that message to show my frustration on how long it took me to actually find an answer that could have been given by most of the people here.

Hu5sain, I think you seemed to have missed the point of these forums (imho). These are a bunch of like(and not so like-)minded individuals who enjoy discussing things of mutual interest, based around a common link (subscription to NTL).

They are not a bunch of free tech-support, who should be excorciated for slow responses to your (dubious) query. You should be grateful that people gave up their free time and skills to help you, not be annoyed they didn't do it quickly enough. btw, it wasn't 24 hours, it was less than 8 hours.

A handy hint - if someone trying to help you asks a question (as they may be trying to clarify if the action is legal/illegal), it is impolite to reply "never you mind. Besides i dont think the channels matter here, there wont be a different procedure for different channels." Some of the guys who contribute to this forum work for NTL, and they should know better than you what the procedures are.

You are the sort of person who would p!ss in a well, just because you couldn't get the water out fast enough.

If you don't like the (free) service, feel free to go elsewhere, you ingrate.

I have :)

I get this error when trying to watch the "Catch up TV" (free)

The weird thing is, if I change the channel (from say bbc1 to bbc2) sometimes it works.

I dont want to setup a PIN as I dont want to watch the PPV stuff
But would it resolve this issue for good if i got one?
It probably occurs 75% of the time :(

Certainly up to some sort of no good.

To whoever helped him: please don't do it again. PIN protection is there for a very good reason.
