The War Between the Land and the Sea

The Dr Who "Spinoff" featuring UNIT.

So far I've only watched Episode 1, but it was decent enough.

No actual war as yet, but I'll be watching episode 2 later tonight.

Really enjoyed episode 1. Think the way to Fix Doctor Who might be to remove Doctor Who haha

ok massive massive plot hole in episode 2 if they could do all that what they did why did they wait so long and leave it till it got so bad to do it especially seeing as the level of pollution is pretty recent historically so they had the power all along. Makes no sense now

Yeah, I watched episode 2 later, and that stuck out immediately.
If they had the power to do that, they clearly had to power to just get rid of the issue themselves.

Still, I'll be continuing with it regardless.

I will continue to watch but for me what was shaping up to be a good storyline is ruined now. Was doing so well too haha

Re: The War Between the Land and the Sea

Well the whole thing is a not too subtle dig at pollution, but given RTD is behind it, that was not exactly unexpected.

"Homo Aqua" is obvious rubbish, the genus "Homo" relates to [Great] Apes, not reptiles from millions of years earlier.
If you're going to make up nonsense about not calling them Sea Devils, at least try and be realistic about it.

Also, I dont know about the live broadcast, but the sound on my copies is a bit hit & miss, I had to turn it right up, esp in episode 1.

Homo Reptilius is the UNIT designation of the Silurians.

I know RTD created is but was jointly written with Pete McTighe who has written some good stuff for Who in the past as well as writing the shorts they've been doing to announce the Blu Ray season collections and lots of other TV stuff.

And equally wrong (Google AI suggests its even noted as wrong in the show).

Because it ended up killing her baby and they'd had enough.

She had already said millions had died so why leave it till it effected her personally? also if they have the tech to make all the plastic shower out the sky why not , if you want to be benevolent make it all fall onto Antarctica . I was gonna say I find it hard to think an intelligent species would allow so many deaths for no good reason but then I remembered I am a human. Also you can not say they wanted to stay hidden because they are obviously vastly more powerful so humans would not have been a threat even if they were exposed

Why should a different species from a reptilian lineage reason the same way as Humans do?

errrm did you not watch the same show I did ?

Firstly 1 Sea Devil was caught in a net and was shot just 1 for this 2 soldiers were killed in the getting of the body. This kicked off events making the sea devils show themselves. The leader of said sea devils showed Themselves to be intelligent is a similar way to the humans. Said leader then showed that they had lost 2 children.

So with the rest of the story we are meant to believe they allowed countless others die in a short period of time for whatever reason they let it all go and add up to such a rate their habitat must be horrendous and they still do nothing until one solitary sea devil gets shot. Does that make sense to you ?

Looks like the schedule for it has been updated as well.

Episodes 3 & 4 will now be this Sunday (14th) and the final 5th episode on Sun 21st.

Because of the fact that it had deeply affected her personaly I would think.

But she did not react because of that did she she reacted because 1 sea devil was shot on a boat and the body was kept by UNIT so killing 1 and keeping the body effected her worse than killing 2 unborn babies. Does not make sense

Re: The War Between the Land and the Sea

Well if you want to nit pick further, the whole fact the babies "should have been born at the turn of the third cold current" is nuts.

If you are a species millions of years old, you're going to have a better way to measure time than sea currents.
They can change over much less than millions of years, in fact they can often vary each year, not reliable for time measurement.

Like most Sci-Fi (and indeed many dramas) it starts to fall apart if you look too closely.

Final episode tonight.

Despite all its obvious flaws, I'm looking forward to seeing how this ends.

Recorded it to watch when there’s nowt else on.

Although I have to get over the similarities with the aquaphibians from Stingray.

Well that finale went down hill very fast...

Re: The War Between the Land and the Sea

Hmmm, yes, that was a bit of a let down.

The whole thing felt like someone suddenly realised ... crap, we're running out of time, we need to wrap this up as quick as we can, so lets quickly kill them all off & give the guy some gills so he can live with the fishes.

And while we're at it, lets send Kate completely off the rails for no good reason.

Very disappointing. :(

Re: The War Between the Land and the Sea

I was enjoying it until they decided to take it the usual route for the BBC now.

The first episode was ok, but then it was just a "Quick let's get it finished so we can cash in" and it ruined it in the end.
