Compare and recycle

Has anybody used this service before?

https://www.compareandrecycle.co.uk/

I've got an offer from them for my OnePlus 9 Pro in poor condition for around £50. I requested a prepaid mailing pack.

Not heard of them, it looks like CEX give more for Grade C whatever quality is.

Problem with CeX is they want me to register. I can't be arsed with it. I lose near £30.

It takes no more than a minute to register, you say it's only £30 but you get 60% more money!

Actually you're right I need the money seeing as I'm going to lose value on its replacement. I've cancelled compareandrecycle. Thank you for looking CeX up for me :tu: I don't think my expired passport will be accepted as proof of id :( any advice please

I get the impression you don't go to work so you may have a benefits book, but they also except debit card.

Just be aware if the phone came with a charger and usb lead you need to take them in with the phone too or send in.

Full Membership
Selling to CeX is fast, friendly and fair. If you're exchanging a Phone or selling anything for cash you need a full CeX membership, which is free. A full membership allows you to sell all items for either cash or credit voucher.

In England, Northern Ireland and Wales full members must be at least 16 years old and be able to present ONE of the following ID:

https://uk.support.webuy.com/support...-requirements-

Current Signed Passport
EU National Identity Card
Current UK photocard Driving Licence (full/provisional)
Police/Armed Forces Warrant Card
DWP Benefit Book or Card
Utility Bill (not more than 6 months old)
A current bank/credit union/building society/credit card statement (not more than 6 months old)
Council Tax/Rent Book
Disabled Drivers Permit
Debit/Credit Card
Citizen Card

What gives you that impression? I am in employment :D

My debit card just has my name on and signature. How is that classed as ID? I can pull up bank statements on my phone or get a hard copy from my bank?

I've got an order in at CeX £79

Probably because at random times during the week you travel to Brighton to see family or maybe you are a for hire Chippendale on Brighton pier!!! apologies for making a wrong assumptionl

Debit card is on the list, I guess your address is linked to it which they can check.

Good luck with CEX I hope they don't reject it.

What is a DWP benefit book?

It's over 13 years since they were scrapped and everyone paid to an account.

I'll try. I don't have a clue.

CeX rejected it on the spot because it has a crack on the back, I thought that was normal  I've contacted my original order through compareandrecycle to clarify c grade. I don't really want to sell on eBay. The nerves of getting scammed are too much.

Bugger that it was rejected but having a cracked back panel i can understand that. Good luck with the other place.

Same here with my Driving Licence, I'd like to have a photo one but the fact it expires after £10 years and then costs £14 every 10 years after means I may as well wait until my paper expires in 2038 which would make me 70 then the licence renewal is Free(from the age of 70) although I may have to pay £14 to change to a photo id then. If I ever want to drive overseas then I would need to get a photo id but I can't see myself ever doing that.

When you hit 70* you don't get a choice, although the good news is it's free (or was last year).

For £6? (!!)

To go through all the hassle to sell something that is cracked / broken. Expecting £50 or more and then think 'it's normal' to sell in that condition.

Best case scenario is to keep it as a back up phone if ever needed, cut your (tiny) loses and just get another.

This was his original backup phone and I think he's upgraded his backup phone to a Google Pixel 6 Pro, his main phone is a Google Pixel 9 XL Pro.

My old phones get put to one side and never get used or see the light of day again.

Yes SnoopZ.

There was no best case scenario the device was annoying me. OnePlus updates are wishful thinking. I have a Google pixel 6 pro as a secondary device now. The only negative is that the 6 pro only has one physical SIM slot. No bother. My secondary SIM doesn't have data so it needs taking out if I ever need to put in my primary SIM. Disabling mobile data on individual sims doesn't always work. I've lost a load of credit before.

How often do you use your back up phone and and the reasons you had to use it?

Everyday. I listen to a load of podcasts on it, having YouTube lives on in the background is perfect, no ads too ;) I don't have socials on my main but I do have anonymous WhatsApp/Telegram accounts on the secondary device. On those apps I have people in different countries that do shopping for me. I'm not paying £140 odd for some Nikes when I can get them for a fraction of that price elsewhere. I browser sites like this site on the device other examples 4pda, XDA, platinmods. Some black market research ;) incoming phone calls

The secondary device is basically everything I don't want my primary SIM associated with.

Hopefully you burnt alot of calories with the hassle of selling this crappy phone for £6 to help with your get fit plan, you may have spent money on postage already so less than than £6, just wait until they reject it because you never sold it with a cable or charger.

Ah ha no. Because they sent out a mailing pack. The only thing I did was recycle some bubble wrap for extra protection during transit. I asked already about cable and charger they said no just the device. I was going to put this all in the final summary post but you're too impatient.

Once the order is placed on compareandrecycle they give you contact details of the buyer of the phone. I suggest writing this email address down or like me firing off an email acting dumb for further guidance.

I did waste £6, £3 each way bus fare to and from town when going to CeX thanks mate! I did however exercise walk short distances :D I guess I'm where I was before only with no phone. I could have chucked it out the window for an endurance test

Maybe your 'mysterious ways' it should be taken with a large supply of salt.

Still, £6 would go quite well towards your fake Nikes. Might nearly pay for them. Lol.

I was fine until the resident dog decided to bark orders at me :(

I was hopeful of recycling paying out but obviously not in the poor condition it was in.

My Nikes are real, I pay the extra monies for originals and still it's cheaper than overheads over here! Having gained experience working at JD Sports aged 16. I'm ok with footwear :D

At least you've got more chance of returning them if they don't fit or have fault than returning them to JD Sports, lol.

I've never had that problem thankfully. Generally some form of quality check is performed. Normally pictures and/or videos prior to dispatch. Some assurance is that replacements would sent out in the event of displeasure.

I got paid out 6£ instantly showing in my bank account this evening.

So they paid for everything. Mailing. Examination. Payout. All I did was add bubble wrap to the parcel.

Highly recommended if you want a no fuss offload of tech. The company that brought my device was Handtec. There were others but they were offering lower quotes. Also note if they offer free mailing included.

I never had a case for the OnePlus or screen protector. I got a Google logo case and screen protector for the Google 6 Pro. I'm not dropping this Google 6 Pro.

I'm going to take part in a health study soon. The organisers are going to give me a device, a Motorola, although I don't know the model, to keep after the study so I have a 3rd device. I also have a Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5g if all else fails. Horrible Xiaomi os but does run third party ROMs.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing....

I would have bought a clapped out same phone which you could get for around £6 I reckon. Then I would have swapped over cases. Then sold it for a bit more.

The screen needed replacing too. Loads of scratches. The phone would cripple link rate too. When connecting to a network it's fine but after some time it doesn't operate at the higher link rate until I turn off and on again to connect to the network. Battery was shocking. This Google 6 Pro holds charge.

Then the obvious question would be why did you even considered to sell it in the first place. It's done its job, should have just chucked it in the bin. Instead of trying to pass it off and mug someone else with it.

Re: Compare and recycle

I didn't. The examination found all the faults as listed in the report. I wasn't shocked at the revised quote of 6£. I was shocked reading the buyer would repair the phone. I couldn't be arsed with eBay for that very reason. It wasn't even worth listing it as parts.

Hope you put on a tempered glass screen protector on your new phone as well as the case, then it'll never get scratches?
