Do you find it acceptable to sneak candies and other foods into your local movie theater when you attend?
I think its understandable why someone would do this..... The movie theaters is so bloody espensive!! I dont really go to the movies anymore because most of what comes out these days is just perverted garbage... |
Re: Sneaking Candies into Movie Theater?
In the UK we can often take our own cold food and drinks, just not alcoholic or hot foods but it's been many years since I went so this may have changed.

Re: Sneaking Candies into Movie Theater?
Someone from a cinema chain was talking about this on the radio recently, they said a lot people assume you can't take your own food and drink into the cinema, but it's not a rule, they just obviously prefer you to buy what they have for sale, but you don't have to sneak it in.

Re: Sneaking Candies into Movie Theater?
If they charged a fair price then people would buy what is there. Stupid prices so people do not buy it stupid business model . Same as if they charged less to visit more would go.

Re: Sneaking Candies into Movie Theater?
It's already expensive to get into the cinema as it is.
I'm not paying another £10 for a hotdog or some nachos covered in sloppy cheesey sauces and will instead run into the supermarket and get my own snacks. |
Yes and one should be able to also AND NOT HIDE IT!!

Re: Sneaking Candies into Movie Theater?
I've always taken my own stuff, even back in the late 80s when my aunt would take me.
Cinemas prices are higher because they use it as a source of income due to not much of ticket sales going direct to them. I will get popcorn from the cinema about once per month as I get 25% off with my unlimited pass. However as I go frequently each month it would be too expensive everytime. |
Re: Sneaking Candies into Movie Theater?
Would you answer the same between one of the big name chains and a local, independent that may rely on sales to keep going without the cover of some big entity?
|
Re: Sneaking Candies into Movie Theater?
I've only got big chains near me, Cineworld, Vue and Odeon, so could really say. With my unlimited card I tend to stick to Cineworld.

Re: Sneaking Candies into Movie Theater?
I don't go to the Cinema anymore, I don't live local to it so have to also factor in the cost of parking which would cost me around £15 per movie during the day and £6 after 6pm, so it's far to expensive just for a movie, could use park and ride but I've never done that and it's alot of hassle to get from A to B.
Everyman cinemas that's just opened recently doesn't allow food. |

Parking is free where I go (Odeon, Derby).

In fact, a couple of years ago, I was sitting in the cinema and a family walked in with an entire indian takeaway (a good couple of carrier bags worth). It really smelled strong, and the staff didn't do a thing.. |

Re: Sneaking Candies into Movie Theater?
I used to love going to the cinema. There used to be two films, Pathé News and some other short programmes, and the ice cream lady was an added bonus.
Now, you have a criminally expensive refreshment area, you only get one film and a half hour of advertisements and excerpts from ever less interesting upcoming films. I watch everything on my big screen at home now, save a fortune and gain far more satisfaction. And no compulsory adverts! |

I remember those days and being in South Africa we would get two news reels, one international and a bilingual local one. And you had different size auditoriums in the one complex. We had a school trip to see a film in a small 100 seater while Orca was showing in the 1,000 seater next door. (There was some sound leakage!!) There was something about having that variety showing that made for the experience. Mind you most features were at most 120 minutes other than the epics not the bum-numbing 3 hour stuff some produce today. My parents related how when in our early days there in Pretoria they went out to the local flea-pit and were surprised that the locals were there in their finest. Going to the cinema (bioscope) in those days was an event. |
