He wants more playing time apparently and not sure Slot is a massive fan of his. I think they should keep him but if they do sell there needs to be a buy back clause, I think he's a really good player.

There were rumours during his absence from the squad but nobody was reporting anything other than the clubs mouthpiece of an injury. Arsenal let him leave out of contract because of contract differences.

Nope. Arteta is not Xabi Alonso. Sadly we went shopping at a certain supermarket and now wonder why it's all gone wrong.

Pep didn't want to disrupt a winning machine. They could have foreseen what was to unfold.

Its pretty hard to retain the title as its a very competitive league where the top clubs are still spending huges amount of cash on new players.

It was never going to be successful - CAS are there to ensure UEFA have applied the existing rules correctly, not whether they did the right thing.

The whole MCO thing has gotten a bit silly to the point they might as well just scrap any semblance of control they might have over it, and just allow it without all of this blind trust stuff, and then just keep an eye for anything which does sound unsporting, but none of that is what CAS were asked to do.

Palace were in a MCO and they took no steps to move Textor's shares into a blind trust by the deadline, so they were not eligible to be in the same competition as Lyon, and so as the lower placed side were demoted. It is as simple as that.

Plus with the 2 new lads already signed and the other 2/3 who are apparently close, all attacking reinforcements, should give us even more options.

Just as well because our issue last season was breaking teams down who sat back and gave us the ball. Even Exeter managed it.

In fairness he is competing with both Aina and Williams who played most of last season, both are about equally good LBs as RBs, and we also signed a lad from Juventus who can cover all 3 defensive positions, and a 4th Botafago player who is also a LB. So he will need to fight for his place especially given the others are our signings and not just on loan

Alex Moreno, who we loaned from Villa, was Ok for a bit and then barely played after Xmas.

It's strange, it does look like he fell out with Marinakis.

He did a good job, and this is a strange decision just for football reasons. Postecoglou is a weird fit as his style is quite different, much less pragmatic and defensive, and it's not clear the Forest team is set up to play his football. Are you really going to go from a team that sits back to hit on the break to a team that presses high up the pitch? Do you have the defenders to recover balls knocked in behind? Or will Ange change his football?

Kind of annoying we (Arsenal) have you next, as I have no idea what to expect. Still, will enjoy seeing the Postecoglou song again.

It could (i.e will) leave you open at the back, though. If he plays his normal football.

His system also only kind of works if you have faster centre-backs that can recover balls in behind the high line quickly.

We'll see, it might be he does change his football and players seem to like him, so you may get an early boost as well.

Aina got injured playing for Nigeria and of course Zinchenko can't play (and for some reason they didn't want to start Savona) so we had Neco playing RB (when he's been playing LB) and then Morato (who's a CB) at LB and it showed.

Once Murillo had gone off injured and then Morato had gone to CB it looked a bit more settled, but then your player managed to score a worldie (they don't get stopped like, ever) and it was only going one way ever but that cemented it.

Just goes to show that Arsenal - who are a top side but haven't ever really been rich in resources - managed to bring in Eze, Madueke, Gyokeres at a significant cost whilst for a PL side outside the big clubs spending 30-40m on a player still feels like a lot.

Why do frigging managers have to mess with teams when they are winning.

Nuno and the Chairman fell out (over transfers afaik) so his days were always numbered.

Why the rush to install a failure ? I do not know.

They presumably want more attacking coherence than just countering.

Nuno presumably couldn't deliver that so they got in a manager who is better at attacking.

Don't think a lot can be read into last night. There were a lot of changes and probably 2 players who won't be used much if at all (John Victor/Willy Boly) this season and between them they were responsible for a lot of the goals...

typical owners wanting something new and better, and prepared to sacrifice everything by employing a cast off.

I see Osama Shitchenko started and completed 90 whole minutes for relegation battlers, mayte. Xhaka on the other hand got MOTM :woot:

Another loss, every game just says bad choice atm.
Five games without a win is apparently the worst start for a new (Forest) boss since the 19th century.

That boss won the FA Cup I think.

Seem to recall a couple of years back a chap called Iraola didn't win for a while either.

Nuno dropped the club in it with his antics. At the same time the style wasn't going to carry on working. Something has to change and the style of play won't click overnight.

We aren't playing too badly, but the results are not coming. If they continue to not come, then I can't see how it can last.

Well I cant see that repeating itself.

Poor defending, again, and unlike the first half the other day, poor in attack.
Woods should have scored, but other than that, we barely tested their keeper.

I'm glad your optimistic, I see little to be hopeful about atm, just a relegation battle. :(

The poor defending was a factor in the last few months under Nuno (who let's not forget was also partly to blame for the current situation as it seems more he engineered his own dismissal). It was April 1 vs Man Utd the last time we kept a clean sheet.

Poor defending when Murillo and Aina are both out injured means we're relying on players who weren't part of the immediate starting picture to fill the gaps. Especially at full back we don't really have the long term cover as the next options are Savona and Zinchenko.

At least we are creating chances to score, eventually they will start going in.

The style of play is in transition because we can't really keep on playing low block and Ange has to do this (as would anyone else) whilst playing midweek as well as weekends.

The lack of wins is concerning, and will get more so as it goes on, but there are still over 30 matches left to play. When we lost the first 4 and ended up promoted should be enough recent memory to show a bad start can be recovered from.

How many times last season did we concede first and go on to draw or win? I don't remember too many. Most of the time we scored first and then shut up shop often bringing on Morato and going to a back 3.

This club is a hypocrite. Emery was said to have communication issues and was sent packing.

The light bulb ended up at Man City. And the blaring of never walk alone gifted Liverpool with the league.

Utter shambles tonight, waste of money.
By the time they scored the penalty, there was almost no one left to cheer, and those that were didnt have the desire.
Time for the boss to admit it got it wrong, and sort it out.

I said the appointment didn't make sense at the time, and it makes even less sense now.

Why fire a manager who did so well last season for one who got a much bigger club 17th? Why go from someone known for attacking football in a team that was well-drilled defensively and liked to hit teams on the counter?

The idea makes sense, but there's too much which hasn't happened under Ange. The players don't look like they know what they're supposed to be doing, the fans aren't happy with it, and the results aren't happening.

Unsurprising since he's had about 50 minutes out of our best centre back, our right back was injured before he came, our new left back is also now injured, and we have a player with muscular edema on loan whose minutes were being managed by his old club, who has basically also played 45 mins and is now injured. None of this is Ange's fault, nor is the fact he had no preseason and has to get the players working in a new style (and more importantly, probably can't coach them in the old system anyway).

Nuno wasn't sacked for results, it was for his behaviour behind the scenes towards Edu particularly, and in the media interviews. If Marinakis was going to sack him for performances he would have done that after the West Ham game rather than wait about a week to do it. He moaned about new signings and then didn't play any of the ones he got apart from one but that was because we only have one winger from last season.

The countering had been found out. No clean sheets since April 1st, including the run in last season, where we dropped from 3rd to 7th. We should be in the conference league but got pushed up because Palace didn't check their emails. In the FA Cup Exeter showed everyone how to play against Forest by putting all the players behind the play and giving them the ball and asking them to break it down. We could only play on counters when teams were stretched and had sent too much forwards so they stopped doing that.

As for Spurs last season, they had a lot of injuries including a lot of defenders out at once, and played a lot of matches to go with it including winning the Europa League. So not sure how much can be read into that. The season before they came 5th under the same manager, what is more successful?

Either way, he doesn't have any more time to get results now given our next few matches he isn't going to pull a win out of the hat. Probably no-one will so it's about time for a new manager to get used to the squad before it's too late. Ange will probably get the Newcastle match but then if EM is serious about achieving something this season we need a replacement in the break. Dyche would be a good shout...

Yes, but the season they finished 5th saw them fall off dramatically in the latter half of the season. Essentially, teams adapted to his tactics that saw them start very strongly, and he had no other plan. That form continued into the next season.

As for winning in Europe, they were facing teams weaker than most Premier League teams. I think their budget was more than that of all the teams they faced up until they faced Man United, where they managed to beat the worst United side in a long time without a shot on target.

It's a good achievement to win a trophy, but the league is a better assessment of a manager. This record is objectively poor in the league.
