New mail programme

At the moment I collect my NTL mail Outlook Classic, but I need to change to the new mail as I am sure Microsoft will stop supporting it, I need to change to the new mail Outlook system but I need to do something, but I do not know what.
Any idea, please

There are no details.
You speculate Microsoft is going to stop supporting Outlook Classic what ever that is and then say you need to do something but you do not know what

Vague

Firstly is it outlook web? if it is you do not need to do anything if it is Outlook APP then if you want to switch to the new look version there is a slider at the top right (you might need to be an insider for this to work) or it will eventually just update itself. I do not like the new look of the app

Try to add as much relative detail when you ask questions it helps those who try to help you

It is pretty vague, are you using some form of webmail ?
If so, why not just log into Virgin Webmail, to get your Virgin (NTL) email ?

Ever since Opera lost its Email Client I just go to https://mail2.virginmedia.com/appsuite/. It's very easy to set up.

You login to your Virgin media account online, usually needs your primary VM e-mail address and password to get in. Then go to e-mail. If you have multiple addresses you can then log in to them individually as a separate transaction.

How do I access emails on My Virgin Media account?

We recommend accessing your web mail from My Virgin Media, as this also provides links to our other services and information about your Virgin Media account.

Go to My Virgin Media and select Sign in
Enter your My Virgin Media username
Enter your My Virgin Media password
Once you’ve signed in, head to Quick links at the bottom of the page and select Virgin Media Mail. This will take you to your Virgin Media web mail inbox.

Alternatively you can sign in to Virgin Media Web Mail by going to mail.virginmedia.com
Or click on this link…

By 'invalid data', do you mean 'invalid email address' or 'invalid password', or what?

Could just be VMs webmail site, it's notoriously poor/flaky.

Get yourself a Gmail address Ken, much better and no email client required.

I have to admit, I rarely check mine, as I set up auto-forward to my Gmail account- but when I do check it, I seem to be fortunate that I don’t have any problems

Use a proper client like Thunderbird. Transparently collect mail
in the background at regular intervals (I have it set for every 10 minutes) from multiple accounts with different providers. All mail kept locally both sent and received. Can be backed up if needed.

Once set up forget flaky webmail.

That would mean me advising my friends the new email address

No it wouldn't, heero wasn't saying change your email address but I believe you have been advised before to move away from Virginmedia webmail to someone like Gmail or Outlook and this is definitely the best thing to do in the long term.

Sending 1 email to all your friends advising them of a change shouldn't be a problem and you still have access to your crappy virginmedia email account in case someone doesn't update your email.

If your Outlook client does not support Modern Authentication, you will need to upgrade to the latest version and then setup using Outlook.com Sync. You can either purchase a new Outlook License, use the Outlook that is included in your Microsoft 365 subscription, or  download Outlook for Windows for free.
You can download it from the link below, but you have to have Win10 or above as your Operating System

Why?

The link I posted included

Quote:

After your download the new email app, add your accounts and they will all be configured to use Modern Authentication and sync properly, helping keep them safe.
It also stated the modern outlook won’t support IMAP…

Quote:

If your Outlook is configured to connect to Outlook.com using POP or IMAP, Modern Authentication is not supported. This means that when Basic Authentication is fully deprecated, it will no longer connect.
If you use the new App, you won’t need Outlook Classic

They are not mail formats, they are different protocols (methods) for fetching your emails from the server.

Microsoft seem determined to make it as difficult as possible to access your email, a good reason to dump it.
