Euro 2024

We dont seem to have a topic yet, so here it is.

Bit of a humiliating start for Scotland (5-1) - they didnt even score "their" goal.

Re: Euro 2024

It would have been good if they could have tackled and defended properly.

A very disappointing start by one of the home nations.

Well, we won our first match (England) but not a great display, we're gonna have to do better.

denphone 17-06-2024 10:06

Re: Euro 2024

We have seen it before with England, , the usual going in front, the typical complacency and sitting back, the very passive coach, very poor substitutions, the Gareth Southgate tactical inflexibility is there for all to see.

Only my view mind as l would love to see England win EURO 2024 but sadly l fear its all going to end in tears yet again.

Paul 17-06-2024 23:02

Re: Euro 2024

Well there won't be tears here.
I view our chances of winning as small.

I think Southgate is mainly the problem. The players he has at his disposal are the best in years but he constantly under achieves. The way England sat back after the goal was so negative and they paid the price.

Well they're not the England manager, nor likely to be, so thats not really relevant.

England looked poor again for most of the match, finally looked a bit more lively near the end, when it was too late.

This evenings match has been fine, Turkey took a 57 second lead, and could yet still stun Austria.

Other way round its the players, not the coaches. Successive Eng managers have done no better. Southgate has best record since Alf Ramsey. The Premiership always comes before international football in this country, hence we under perform.

Its even more of a problem when it costs around £10,000 more for someone English to get your pro license and to get a UEFA A badge.

https://www.theguardian.com/football...d-updates-live

Quote:

The UEFA A badge is the highest level of coaching badge there is. In 2017 there were 15,089 UEFA A qualified coaches, as opposed to only 1,796 in the UK as per the Guardian.

This number of UEFA A qualified coaches in the UK is also significantly lower than Germany, and lower than even Poland. And this is a problem of the FA’s own making, as it costs around £10,000 more to get your pro license and to get UEFA A qualified in this UK than it does in Spain. Having spoken to a few people interested in going down that path, another huge issue is that the number of spaces at St George’s Park is alarmingly limited and often swallowed up by ex-pros alone.

The consequence of this is huge. Looking at the candidates for the England manager, it is slim pickings. It’s no wonder no English manager has won the Premier League. You can only contrast it to the abundance of coaching talent that the Spanish and Germans have.

We are reducing the chance for both people and for unique ideas to flourish in a way they have abroad, as this goes beyond managers but will also affect wider coaching teams.
