TCM movie channel RIP...

Couldn't see a thread on this, so please remove of there is one....

TCM closes Thursday apparently. Very sad loss for those that don't want to shell out for Sky's rubbish. Not that many non Sky film channels left.

Still at least we have Talking Pictures and VM will no doubt be discounting our bills accordingly...

A very poor decision by the owners of TCM.

Looking at Quest 14 days ahead on the EPG guide they hardly have any films on there so they could just be paying lip service.

I somehow don't think so , It was Warner Bros Discovery decision after a Review of their UK operations.

Re: TCM movie channel RIP...

It does seem rather surprising that this channel has closed given that it is the only classic film channel for US movies.

And people may remember the trailers in the second half of the 1990s during the analogue cable TV era telling us that TNT (the original name for TCM) and Cartoon Network were available 24/7 on cable but they never appeared 24/7 on Cable & Wireless.

TNT was never a dedicated movie channel, used to love it, WcW and The Dukes of Hazard were what I watched it for, I think it was cartoon network that changed into a porn channel at some point in the day, remember watching it with my young son and it just switched without warning

Is that the 'movie' channel that isn't movies? Just made for tv wholesome US cable crap? Should be done under the trade descriptions act.

Hopefully another channel can pick up TCMs output, preferably not Sky.

Apparently, Virgin removed TCM +1 early at just after midnight, meaning that viewers missed the last 10 minutes of The Excorcist!!

ozsat 08-07-2023 09:07

Re: TCM movie channel RIP...

Whereas Sky removed TCM and TCM+1 it during the afternoon (mid-programme) so you missed a whole evening's worth of programmes.

It is normal practice - the channels know it.

Cracking channel too. Mainly British films/classic TV series which is welcome.

TCM is/was mostly US movies , presumably the owners still hold the rights to showing them even if they don't now show them. Let's hope someone else picks up their output.

Good old Film 4 is still there too, however don't seem to make many of their own films these days.

They stated Quest was going to pick up some of TCM's output but thus so far that sounds like lip service.

Seen them advertising comedy films on Quest when watching HGTV , but not followed it up so no details :dozey: was waiting for phone call so flicked channels, sad I know, great TV seemed to have a lot of old films, again.of no interest to me, Netflix gives me more than I could possibly watch
