If you were starting from scratch…
How I am wording this clearly. If you could start all over , what bb , TV would you opt for , would you even look at a landline? Sorry should read start FROM scratch

Re: If you were starting from scratch…
Title amended for clarity

Re: If you were starting from scratch…
Just broadband for me
|
Re: If you were starting from scratch…
Just BB and TV for me - probably still with VM, as no proper competition in this area (OpenReach estimates "sometime between now and 2026"), and SWMBO is used to the V6 interface, and doesn’t handle technology change in an optimal manner…

Re: If you were starting from scratch…
Broadband only. Freeview, mobile, IPTV and old legacy BT landline.
|
Re: If you were starting from scratch…
Broadband and TV only, although for some reason my wife wants to retain the landline, even though both of us have mobiles.
When a company, be it VM, Sky, BT offers me a streaming led system that offers integration including watchlists and profiles, I would switch to that. I'm not interested in TV channels as such. |

I’m not sure what “streaming led” means can you advise how this differs from the search functionality on the home screen? I’m yet to come across a “streaming” platform from Amazon, Google, Apple that substantially varies from the format. |
Re: If you were starting from scratch…
Very happy with my 900MB from BT. We also get 3 mobile accounts but we only have a landline because I need a home office phone number. Even then it rarely rings and I’m only keeping it because I’m not paying for it.
For TV we have Apple TV+ bundled with my iCloud+ sub (mainly wanted Music and maximum cloud storage, didn’t cost much more to just get the bundle with TV), Prime bundled with Amazon deliveries, Netflix and Paramount. If we didn’t use Amazon delivery a lot we probably would be happy to drop Prime TV. I’ll be dropping Paramount as soon as my half price year is up. |
Re: If you were starting from scratch…
Broadband (VM or FTTP) and Sky TV.
No real use for a landline now, will probably get rid later in the year when my contracts up. |
Re: If you were starting from scratch…
Just BB for me my 950mbs up and down from giganet does everything i need it to do.
|
Re: If you were starting from scratch…
BB and landline. Since VM moved to voip for the landline it no longer serves a purpose as it dies if broadband goes out.

I'd have a Freesat PVR, a Freeview PVR, dip in & out of streaming services and broadband. |
Re: If you were starting from scratch…
I would keep VM Broadband as there is no other option here with those speeds, but like I'm planning to do soon I'd ditch the TV and just use streaming services for that and I never use the landline so that can go too.
No idea how much the M250 BB would cost if I just kept that but I'm paying £110 a month for XL TV, M250 BB and phone line, I know it's my fault I've let it get that high as I hate using the phone to negotiate, so would never put in a request to cancel everything and wait for a call back. |
Re: If you were starting from scratch…
If it wasn't for broadband I'm sure Virgin would have gone bust by now.
The phone is now largely obsolete and many like yourself aren't too bothered about their TV offering anymore. In time I expect VM to be a broadband company only with BB also providing phone and TV. |

If digital hadn't of happened, but BB had, perhaps they would have closed phone and TV to do it or made them both online long ago to enable them to continue to provide both services?? |
Re: If you were starting from scratch…
I still have my landline , it is now connected through the internet with VM, As this is what they are doing now,

Like many, I can now get FTTP, with slightly better upload, slightly worse download, but pretty much the same. I can also get a proper fixed IP with it, rather than rely on VM rarely changing it. If I was starting from scratch, its highly likely I would go with the FTTP. |

Re: If you were starting from scratch…
Sky broadband with a Freesat recorder. Use Netflix, Disney+, Discovery+, NOW Sports for premium stuff.

Re: If you were starting from scratch…
look online there is some very good deals , i have just renewed my contract with virgin and used the online deals as a bargain tool , and got a good deal this time without saying i was going to cancel .

Re: If you were starting from scratch…
I’m actually in this position right now. I’m out of contract next week, and Virgin have told me my discount will end in July and my new monthly bill will be £126. I’m moving house in September, so seriously reconsidering what I need and what I would like.
I’ve been in my current house for nearly two years, and never plugged anything into the landline, so don’t need that at all. I’ve got M500 broadband, which is sufficient. I have a single V6 box with TiVo, which doesn’t get a huge amount of use, but I’ve always been a TiVo fan, and appreciate having a nice library of recorded stuff available. We use watch Netflix and Disney+ a fair bit, and have Amazon Prime which gets used occasionally. I have Sky Sports HD, but only for F1 and Cricket. I do watch Eurosport a fair bit. We have three mobile contracts, none of them with Virgin or O2, so looking at how we can save on that. The Ultimate Volt package would be cost effective, get me an extra box, allow me to save on a mobile SIm and cover my Netflix needs. But my new house has fast internet available from a number of providers. I could switch to Sky Stream, Virgin Stream, or just go with broadband and Freeview/Sat. There are so many options now. I haven’t decided yet whether to 1) Cancel now, and shop around for a new deal with any providers I want in my new home 2) Haggle with Virgin now, bring them with me when I move 3) Pay their new ridiculous monthly bill for a month and handle the stress of having to phone them to both move and change package in one conversation next month |
Re: If you were starting from scratch…
Assuming you’ve no need to retain your landline number (as you say, it’s not used) the cheapest option that’d save you haggling is Ultimate Volt as a new customer at your new address.
You could attempt to downgrade but not enter a new contract to avoid paying stupid prices in the interim but if not recontracting that offer isn’t going to be great. |
